Whether she was telling the truth or not is a different matter but as far as Raghav is concerned, she had a strong, valid reason for leaving him so he has no reason to feel the tension. Also, seeing that she's apparently been suffering abuse while he moved on and made a better life for himself makes him feel sorry for her.

Lastly, people keep forgetting that they used to be close friends before falling in love. That connection will not be totally dead when has learned that she was innocent and in fact didn't betray him because he was poor. For old times' sake is a hard to resist request and even more the alcohol aspect. He doesn't have control over his addiction.

Okay i understand they were friends before falling in love...but circumstances were different here. There was riots going on outside and like any wise man his first reaction should have been to notify his family about his whereabouts and being safe.

But here what we saw he was indulging himself in silly drinking competition how on earth you can think of doing that in emergency situations

It might seem silly to you but they were doing this for old times' sake, because as friends and college mates this is what they used to do. Sometimes when life is tough, it's the silly things that are uplifting and Esha wanted to wipe away some of her heartache by doing something fun. Raghav obliged. If she hadn't taken advantage of him and they had slept one on the couch, one on the bed, then the prior actions would have seemed to a lot of people to be harmless fun and patching up of old friends and they wouldn't have been so worked up.

As for emergency situations, well Raghav knew that there was a curfew and there wasn't much he could do except spend the night in that town and leave for Hyderabad the next morning. All phone lines and communication channels had been shut down (I guess by law enforcement) in order to curb the violence and reduce the chances of destruction of property, harm to people etc. They were in a 'safe place' in the hotel, off the streets. I don't know if you've ever been stuck in such a situation but I have, and it's really freaky. In such moments, you just want to be in a quiet spot, away from the violence and sit tight, distract yourself, etc.

I don't think he is alcoholic in the extreme sense that he might need to go to rehab, but his intake has increased recently and his control over his emotions and resorting to the bottle has been all over the place. I'm also going by what Farhad said about this. They never addressed his withdrawal symptoms but he's bound to have them at some point.
