Wow - read the whole story in one shot and it is incredible. thanks! Nothing I would have expected but still very in keeping with their key personalities. Welcome break from the crap the show is dishing out these days. Can someone send a link of this to the creatives to show them how it could have been done.

Looking forward to the rest of the story.

The only disappointment I have with this story is Aditya and Imlie missing out on living her college years together. I never was in favor of a leap - since it would take away this special time for them where they would have needed to learn to address the huge age gap between them. Post 10 years the age gap narrative would no longer be an area they would be able to explore.

The cherry on top - I love stories which have something to do with detectives, crime etc.

Thanks for writing this story ❤️

Don't worry, I am not looking for compliments. I just want to hear with some part of the story stood out, what worked, what didn't, etc.

I wanted to give Imlie some weight and change the dynamics between them so she did not always feel like he's so above her. While they think they are equal, his family and Malini's treat her like she's nothing. Like her intelligence does that matter. I frankly think that Imlie's family has more class between her Amma and Dadah than either the Chaturvedi or Tripathi family. That said, it is really weird that they are making her mom stay in Dev's house just to keep the characters on the same set. That is just BAD writing compromising the characters.

I love Aditya and Imlie's age gap too. They had a lot to learn about each other which the show explored a bit in June with the mentor-mentee relationship. But I found it a bit selfish that Aditya wants Imlie to care for Malini and the baby but before he got mad when she said she wanted to explore hostel life and making friends because it took her away from him. That is putting way too many expectations on a girl he wasn't even giving acknowledgement as his wife in the house. And why is Imlie still working in this house and how dare Malini give her orders to clean the room? Imlie is the bahu, not the servant. I wanted to take it all out and just give them space to relearn about each other. Stay for the ride and see how you like it. I would love to hear more feedback from you as the pieces progress.

Part 8:

Aditya looked her straight in the eye: Please don't revisit parts of your past that bring you pain, Imlie. You have made great strides in your life, celebrate that.

Imlie was taken aback: I will be happy to hear about your family, Babusahib. I want to know if you have managed to forgive Malini Didi and start afresh. I will be happy for you both if that is the case, you have my word.

Aditya looked away: Please don't call me that. Not anymore. You are much more of a city person than me now. And it suggests a hierarchy between us that I don't like.

Imlie: Then, I will call you Jijaji.

Before she finished, Aditya had grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her against him: Don't EVER call me that! Do you hear me!? We married first, Imlie, my relationship with Malini was never jayez. And you know that if the courts knew of our marriage, they would never have licensed my wedding with Malini either. (He sighed) I am sorry (he let go of her). I know none of this matters anymore, but it is very important to me that you never think of me that way.

Imlie took a step back, shaken: But that is all you are now, isn't it, Aditya?

Aditya sighed and shook his head: It's no use revisiting the past. Leave it be, Imlie, and live your life.

Aditya went into his room and closed the door.

Imlie waited for 20 minutes as she fed Emmaline and prepared her bath. Aditya did not come out. She finally put the baby to sleep and paced the hall, hoping he had cooled down somewhat.

Imlie was still uncomfortable when she replayed Aditya's words to understand his meaning.

He was not coming out, she realized. She would have to answer her own questions.

She searched him online, trying to find answers that she had resisted looking into for nearly a decade. But now that she had broached the topic, she could not step back. Unlike her, Aditya had a lot on him. She had occasionally watched his news coverages all over the world as his profile grew as a journalist, but she always avoided looking into his Wikipedia for fear that she would read about Malini Didi and their child or children. She had let him go for his life to flourish with a new family, but she could never bring herself to face that truth. Now, he was here and she could not avoid digging into this.

Imlie didn't know what she was praying for, but she heard herself choking back tears and repeating Sita Maiyya's name as she opened his Wiki. Nothing. There was nothing about his personal life here.

Should she use her professional resources to appease her personal interest? She debated this in her head. Just then, an email from Alex popped up. The subject just said, "I think you should see this preliminary data."

Imlie opened the email. It was Aditya's initial analysis done by the department. Her heart skipped a beat. Would this file have her answers? She prayed and opened it.

Name: Aditya Kumar Tripathi

City: Delhi

Residence: Skylane apartments, #9

Status: Indian citizen

Education: IIMC Delhi, JNU

Profession: Nationally syndicated journalist, mostly does politics and international war press

Marital status: Divorced.

Imlie stared at that word. Divorced?

Previous partners: Imlie Tripathi (separated, unregistered religious marriage under duress)*; Malini Chaturvedi (divorced on grounds of marital rape and blackmail, legal wife is also Imlie Tripathi's half-sister)

Children: None (one miscarriage noted in divorce against Malini Chaturvedi).

Parents: Living, separate housing

Cousin: Nishant Trivedi (cancer remission patient and currently under witness protection by us)

*Emily, we need to talk about this. - Alex

Imlie's world spun on its hinges as she finished the email.

The bell rang.

Imlie quickly went to open the door as she saw Alex reflected on the Ring camera.

Aditya opened his door to peer out.

Imlie turned to him: Go back inside and whatever happens, don't come out.

Aditya, concerned: What? Are you in danger? I can help.

Imlie walked up to him and pushed him inside: I am not, but you are going to be, if you don't listen to me. Stay inside. I am trained for this.

Aditya looked puzzled: Why are you crying?

Imlie, gravely: Stay inside.

Aditya: I can't let you put yourself in danger, not for me of all people.

Imlie: Aapko meri kasam, please!

She walked out quickly and locked the door behind her.

Aditya banged on the door: Don't do this alone, Imlie. Let me talk to him.

She ignored Aditya and went to open the door.

Alex glared at her: You have a conflict of interest. And some explaining to do.

He looked down at her hand and grimaced with disappointment.

Alex: You think I would hurt you, Emily?

Tears were streaming down her face: Not for a moment, Alex. We have relied on each other, you and I, for the last eight years. And I have put my life and safety in your hands without a second thought many times.

Alex, in a broken voice: Then, why do you have the gun loaded?

Emily: Because I have never taken a chance on his life, Alex, and I never will. If you intend to hurt him (she handed the gun over to Alex), you have to go through me.

Alex sighed, released the magazine, came in and locked the door behind him: I want to understand why.

Emily: You saw the report.

Alex inclined his head to one side: Yes, but that's not the whole story. Frankly, even the gist of it looks messy.

There was still banging on the door when they came upstairs. Alex approached Aditya's room and Imlie quickly followed suit.

Alex opened the door and let out an exasperated Aditya: Relax, Mr. Tripathi. I am just going to talk with Emily. You are in no danger from me, as I have assured her.

Aditya was breathing hard: It is not me I am worried about.

Alex looked from Aditya to Emily and smiled sadly: Let's talk somewhere private. Please excuse us for a bit, Mr. Tripathi. (He smiled encouragingly, but with restraint) Get some rest, Mr. Tripathi. You have had a rough day and I am sorry for the part I played in it.

Imlie looked at Aditya pleadingly and led Alex into her room.

Their bedroom, more than likely, Aditya thought as he watched.

Aditya held back as Alex and Imlie went inside. It was Alex then? Her husband? Aditya reasoned he had no right to get in the way. Why wouldn't she tell him though?

Perhaps it was awkward for her to tell him, their relationship being what it was...

The baby had blue eyes and brown hair. Oh.

Well, they look good together. And they made more sense together. They were both at the top of their field and working together in god knows what daredevil missions together. They matched, in a way he and Imlie never did then and certainly never would now.

Now this had happened too. He had just seen Imlie go into her bedroom with her new husband. Aditya stepped back into his room and shut the door behind him, feeling nauseous. He thought about leaving as he paced around his room, but the thought of Nishant's safety stopped him.

At the far end of the hall...

Alex sat on the desk and ushered Emily to sit across from him: Tell me everything and confirm if what I am thinking is true.

He took some Kleenex and handed them to her as she sniffled.

Emily: I have made a huge mess of things, Alex. I have ruined everything. He will never forgive me when he finds out.

Quick update today, just cause I felt like writing it. Any thoughts on Alex?
