I don't think it would be as dramatic, but I think the purpose of the ex is to stir up feelings of needing to progress in their relationship (otherwise, what's the point - it's already been shown time and time again that they love each other). Not to prove a point or be "one up" over the ex, but more so to be like "wait, what are we waiting for". Though I suppose if it were to happen this way, it would be after the ex actually left.

I LOVE how almost all your theories surround this and they are so pleasant to read 😌😌
