Not necessarily. Sometimes these are family heirlooms and sometimes people buy rare pieces to add a touch of class to their settings. Such pianos are regularly serviced and guests who know how to play them will often spend time on them. I know of families that own pianos where no one (in the family) plays them any more. But they are played by invitees, and one person in my family can play it - so he will usually be asked to play something when we are invited :)
We used to own a much smaller upright piano which we disposed many years ago as it was getting difficult to maintain. I have friends who still manage to retain theirs.
This one is a Grand Piano and may be rare and very very expensive, It would have been a special treat for PD to have played on it.
