To answer the question: yes of course Preity would have nailed the role. It's within the grasp of her talent and she would have suited the character very well and I'm sure it would have been as popular a film.

However having said that, the way Kareena Kapoor did what she did, it is very hard to imagine anyone else in the role. She was beyond incredible in the film. I'm still not over it, glad I watched it in the cinema with my sister, and we both tried to whistle during the "kutte kaminey ulle ke patthe" scene but we flopped.

yeah but it wouldn't have been as great as Kareena's Geet. Preity would've pretty much acted like herself in the movie and there are tons of movies where Preity is pretty much being herself in the roles. There would've been nothing special about Geet had she played it. Also I know we make fun of Kareena a lot but when it comes to acting I think Kareena is so much better than Preity.

Kareena made Geet an iconic character in the history of Indian cinema. No one else could have played Geet like Kareena did.

Kareena brought Geet to life in such a unique fresh way. Preity by then had done so many bubbly characters before that it would have just been a rehash of those other characters. Kareena brought a unique perspective and freshness to the role. Not to mention Kareena has better range over the emotional sad roles as well. And for some reason I can't imagine Preity with Shahid the way Kareena looked in that movie

I think preity would have done justice to the role
