Chapter 32
Walking through the misty winter Monday morning Anokhi was heading to catch the bus along with her brother, that will take them to school and her to HER Shaurya. Cold wind blew, making her shiver and instinctively she pulled her coat closer. It was still dark outside, but the light was beginning to push the darkness away.
Soon she was sitting in the bus, leaning on the cold window she closed her eyes as she felt excited and sad at the same time. She felt excited about getting to see Shaurya in front of her for the whole day but she also knew that it was probably the last time she will see him for this long before he goes. The uncertainty of their future, the feeling of not knowing when they would meet again once he leaves on Friday night was making her sad and anxious. So far she always avoided thinking about his departure as much as she could but now that the D-Day was around the corner and approaching fast she couldn't help but think about it and was not able to avoid it anymore.
'Please come to school on Monday, I won't get any more chances to see you for the whole day...' His request played in her mind tugging at her heart painfully yet again. She immediately opened her eyes feeling sad at their current situation. She remembered how when he had first asked her to come she fell silent, tears threatened to spill, her voice choked on the lump in her throat. It has been two days since then and yet she felt the same. She took deep breaths to calm herself as she remembered the promise he took from her that she won't cry and stay strong, even though he himself sounded like he was having a hard time trying to control his own sadness and emotions. She had nevertheless promised him and was determined to keep it. She opened her bag to take the water bottle out to drink some water in order to keep her nerves calm. After drinking water she opened the bag again to put the bottle back when her eyes landed on something inside and a goofy smile erupted on her lips.
'He sure is not expecting it along with the ring. It will be great to see his face when he sees it.' She thought mischievously. 'Though I'm not sure if I would be able to see...hmmm anyway, first we need to find an opportunity for me to pass the ring to him, hopefully I can pass this as well along with the ring or else I'll need to find a way to pass it during tuition tomorrow. Although I'm not sure how I will do that since tomorrow all the girls will be coming early to set up for the surprise party. Oh I hope he likes what I got for him from all of us...'
Suddenly she felt someone tapping her shoulder, she opened her eyes to see her brother who was looking at her with an amusing smirk. "What??" She questioned him irritably.
"Just thought I'd let you know I'm getting off the bus!!" He replied in a very nonchalant tone while hiding his amusement.
She looked at him with a confused look and asked "Why are you getting off the bus???"
He laughed at her not being able to hold it in any longer and said "Because we are at school...duh!!"
She quickly turned her head left and right, her eyes widened as she realized that he was right, they had in fact reached school. She laughed a little trying to hide her embarrassment and hit her palm on her forehead while standing up from her seat as she headed for the door to get off the bus with him.

Anokhi's POV
Anokhi was sitting in the class waiting for Shaurya to show up. 'Apparently, he's running late...guess I have our late night rendezvous to blame for that. Anyway, he'll be here soon... I hope so. I hate sitting here alone, I wish Reema was here...but since she isn't in the computer science class she's at home, probably studying while I'm stuck here with some other students, getting bored and waiting for him to show up.' She thought impatiently.
Suddenly her mind wandered and redirected on a different path which was playing on her mind for quite some time now, 'How will Reema react after knowing about Shaurya and Me?? Would she judge me thinking it's wrong?? Or would she support me?? Or would she try to talk me out of this?? What will she do??' These were some questions that were driving her crazy for the past few weeks. But then she would always comfort herself by saying 'No matter what she feels, she is my best friend and I don't think I can hide this from her for long. Maybe I'll tell her next week after Shaurya leaves. I will need her then, hopefully she will support me. It doesn't matter how worried I am about her reaction, I have to tell her.'
"Hi Anokhi" Priya said as she took the seat next to Anokhi effectively distracting her from her thoughts.
"Uhh hi" Anokhi replied slightly in a nervous tone and thought 'Since when does she want to talk to me??' You see she was one of those girls who thought they were better than everyone else. Just because everyone in her group got good marks they thought they shouldn't talk to kids who are not among the toppers. Whereas for Anokhi it didn't matter if her friends were not straight A students, that was not why she was friends with them and that's not what their friendship was based on, she didn't like to judge. So the point is mostly Anokhi and Priya both stayed in their groups and surely Anokhi preferred it that way and so they hardly interacted.
"How are you??" She awkwardly asked.
"I'm fine, how are you??" Anokhi replied politely thinking what does she want from me??
"Uhhh I was wondering if you can help me with some questions??"
Anokhi looked at her surprised while she continued "Actually Shaurya sir said you can help us when he's not around, so I thought I'll ask..." She trailed off.
A big smile adorned her lips hearing about his confidence in her. She felt like she was on cloud nine knowing how proud Shaurya feels about her.
"Sure, no problem I'll help" Anokhi replied confidently and walked with her to the back where her stuff was and they both sat there and she showed Anokhi her questions. Anokhi read the first question and began explaining. The whole class was empty other than the two of them there.
15 mins later...
As Anokhi was explaining, suddenly she had this eerie feeling of someone watching her. She looked up towards the door and saw Shaurya standing there leaning on it with a smile adorning his lips. Anokhi stopped talking and kept looking at him with a sweet smile of her own.

Shaurya's POV
"I'm late I'm late I'm late..." he kept mumbling and hurrying up throughout his morning routine. He was late because he had this great idea of sleeping for 10 extra minutes which turned into 40 mins. Yes you guessed it right... He OVERSLEPT, hence he's late.
He drove as fast as he could safely, but he was still late. He quickly parked his scooter and speedily walked towards the supervisor's room. As he entered he noticed Mr. Kohli was sitting there and relaxing.
"Aren't there students from your class here today??" Shaurya asked confusingly while thinking why he is not with them.
"Yeah there are, but they're waiting for you, not me!!" He replied and casually shrugged his shoulders, then continued "You are the one who asked them to come today and I'm assuming they will stay with you in the lab all day, right??"
"Uhhh yes... yes they will" Shaurya replied shocked at his laid back attitude. 'He should have at least stayed with them until I reached.' Shaurya curbed his irritation for his irresponsible attitude and without uttering a word he just shook his head at him and left the room then went straight towards Anokhi's class briskly.
As he reached the door, he noticed Anokhi was not on her usual seat, right in the front. His brows furrowed as he wondered where she could be?? He saw her bag lying there, but she was missing... he was about to turn around and leave when he heard her soft voice, she was explaining something to someone. Shaurya took two steps in the room quietly and observed her sitting beside Priya, explaining something. She was engrossed in explaining while Priya seemed to be listening quite carefully as well. 'I haven't seen them interacting with each other much...though I know the reason behind it is not Anokhi, if it were she wouldn't be sitting there right now trying to explain and help.' He felt so proud of her at that moment, he had a huge smile on his lips, admiration in his eyes and lots of love in his heart for her. He kept standing there and gazing at her lovingly. Shaurya was in his own world.
Suddenly she looked up at him and smiled. Both of them looked at each other with their eyes full of love and happiness seeing each other.
For those few seconds they didn't realize Priya was looking at Anokhi confused as to why she had suddenly stopped explaining...soon she followed her gaze and looked at Shaurya, she stood up and wished, "Good morning Sir" to him, effectively breaking their stare-a-thon.
Shaurya looked at her and replied "Good morning. Are you both ready to go up in the lab??" He asked.
"Yes" both of them replied in unison.
Shaurya chuckled at their enthusiasm and said "You both go ahead and I will get the students from the science section and come."
They both nodded and started packing their bags. Shaurya lingered there for a few seconds and then noticed Anokhi peeking at him, he smiled at her for a second, then turned around and left. He started walking away from there as he didn't want anyone to notice them looking at each other like that. 'I have the whole day today to look at her...she will be right in front of me all day today' he happily convinced himself although it wasn't enough.
Suddenly he felt a slight tug in his heart at the thought that after today who knows when he'll be able to see her, let alone for this long. Even though he knew they have to go through this separation to reach their goal of being together one day, just like you have to cross the darkness in the tunnel to reach the light at the end. But still, the pain and sadness that he felt because of being away from her doesn't go away and it sucks.
Taking long strides hurriedly he headed back to the lab along with the few science section kids. Reaching the lab he saw Anokhi from the top half of the glass door, she was sitting on the other side of his desk with Priya next to her. She was leaning on the desk with her right arm supporting her head and holding a pen in the other tapping the table with it impatiently. As Shaurya opened the door and entered she looked up at him instantly and smiled brightly, her eyes twinkled happily.
After everyone took a seat, Shaurya started explaining the answers of the questions everyone had. Everytime he turned away from the board and towards the students he noticed Anokhi sitting with her palm on her cheek and elbow resting on the table and she was staring at him dreamily, he couldn't control himself and smiled at her each time ignoring the fact that other kids were in the class too, but luckily no one noticed Shaurya's overwhelming smiles and Anokhi's constant stare at him. 'I don't think she was paying any attention to what I was saying' he thought.
An hour later he was done with everyone's questions. He asked them all to show each other their projects while he allotted a computer to each of them. He himself went into the outer room of the lab and sat with other computer teachers.
He wasn't paying much attention to the chat around him as he was making a plan in his mind about how to take the ring from Anokhi without anyone noticing. He has to take it to the jeweler in the evening for it to be ready soon. An idea popped into his head. 'I should pretend to take her help in clearing my closet and there I can easily ask her to pass it to me. That way, I can get some alone time with her as well. Yeah that's what I'll do.' Upon deciding the plan, he looked at his watch and realized it was almost time for the next period and one of the 11th classes would be coming. He quickly excused himself from the teachers and went to the inside room and instructed all students in the class including Anokhi that they need to focus on their work silently since it was time for another batch's computer class.
They were all grabbing their stuff just as the 11th class students started walking in.
Soon it was time for the first break and after it the first thing Shaurya did was ask Anokhi to help him clear his closet, which she understood was just an excuse to be able to get the ring from her. She complied immediately and walked behind him while holding her register close to her protectively. Shaurya wondered why she was bringing it along.
When they reached his closet, which was located in the outer room of the lab and there were a couple of teachers sitting on the opposite corner of the room, Shaurya started clearing stuff slowly so no one would think otherwise. He extended some papers and things towards Anokhi to keep aside that needed to be thrown. But before taking it from him she kept her register on the top shelf and then put the things Shaurya gave on the side. He looked at her in confusion and raised his eyebrows at her asking about the register. She smiled mischievously and mouthed 'later' to him. He nodded his head in agreement and continued clearing the closet.
A few minutes later he looked around to check if anyone was looking at them. After making sure no one was paying attention towards them, the first thing he did was ask Anokhi in a whispering tone to pass her ring.
When Shaurya in a whispering tone asked Anokhi to pass her ring to him, she instinctively turned her head behind to look around and noticed no one was paying any attention to them. She quickly grabbed the ring out of her pocket and kept it on one of the shelves in his closet. Without waiting for even a second he quickly picked it up from there and put it in his pocket and smiled in satisfaction.
'Hmmm now is a good time to give him my surprise too' Anokhi thought and once again turned her head to check if anyone was looking. Since no one was looking she quickly turned around and picked up her register, opened it and took out the packet, keeping it on the shelf she looked in Shaurya's direction and nodded towards the packet. He looked at her in confusion. She smiled at him and whispered "For You".
He looked between the packet and her in surprise. Anokhi loved the happy and excited look in his eyes as he picked up the packet and opened it hiding behind the door of the closet so no one could see.
Shaurya felt ecstatic seeing the packet in front of him when Anokhi whispered "For You" to him. He couldn't wait to open and see what was inside. He quickly opened it, there were so many cards inside. He opened the first one, it had a quote on it which read:-

He looked at her emotionally with so much love in his eyes and saw the same expression reflecting back from her. All he wanted to do was HUG her tightly close to his heart, hide her in his arms and KISS her on her soft juicy lips right there and then, but unfortunately he couldn't do any of that. He had to stop himself because he knew it wasn't the right place for it. So he thought of doing the only thing he could at that moment, but first he looked behind her at everyone in the room to make sure no one was paying attention towards them. He extended his hand and held her hand in his. Both their hands were on the inner side of the closet so no one could see. He squeezed her palm gently and rubbed his thumb on her knuckles softly. Her hand felt so soft and delicate, it seemed so small in his large hand. He could feel her hand shiver under his touch. She curled her fingers around his palm tightly, in an attempt to stop the shaking and smiled lovingly looking at their entwined hands.
Few seconds later she gestured towards the rest of the cards, beckoning him to open them as well and started pulling her hand out of his. Shaurya didn't want to but he knew he had to let go of her hand so reluctantly he let her hand slip out of his grip.
He picked the second card and it read :-

Subsequently he opened the other cards one by one. They all had beautiful quotes on them along with I Love You and other things written by her on every inch of the empty space in the cards.

He kept reading all the wonderful quotes and looking at her smiling at him sweetly. She seemed like she was enjoying watching each and every reaction of his. As he kept the card currently in his hand aside and reached for the last card she stopped him by keeping her hand on it. He looked at her in confusion as she shook her head telling him not to open it. She whispered "Not here, go home and open it when you are alone."
He couldn't understand why she told him to open it when he's alone but for now he just went along with what she said and nodded in agreement. But still he was curious and couldn't stop himself from asking, so he whispered "But why?"
"It's a surprise!!" She quickly whispered mirroring his tone and smiled shyly while eyeing the card, making him even more confused.
"Make sure you open ONLY when you are alone." She warned him again and all he could do was nod and agree with a confused smile.
Soon they were finished with the closet and went back in the room as Shaurya had a class with one of the 11th section.
During the class a couple of students from the science section were talking in the back and disturbing. Shaurya glared at them and warned them to be quiet.
More than half of the day was gone and now only 4 periods were left, out of which only in one of them Shaurya had a class and rest were free.
He was very happy and satisfied with the day so far and especially loved his surprise gift but now he was starting to get sad as the realization of this beautiful day coming to an end hit him. He didn't want this day to end, he just wanted to stay in close proximity to Anokhi. He was getting very restless.
Next period he didn't have any class so he was just sitting and talking to all the 12th students.
"Are you all prepared for your pre-board exams next week??" He asked, trying to distract himself from the restlessness.
"Pretty much"
"Yes"
"Getting there"
"Almost" were the answers he got from them all.
Anokhi was sitting right across from him with his desk in between them. He noticed she was smiling to herself, 'maybe she is remembering something' he thought. 'Actually come to think of it, she has been like this ever since she gave me those cards' he realized.
"Okay great!! Good luck to all of you. My last day here is Thursday so if any of you have any questions you are welcome to come and ask."

Anokhi's POV
Ever since she gave him those cards she kept replaying his reactions to each card in her mind. And every time she did that it brought a satisfied smile on her lips. 'I remember how scared I was when I came home after buying them on Saturday.' She thought.
You see, originally she had gone to the market on Saturday evening to buy the gift for Shaurya for the surprise farewell party that all the girls in tuition were giving him on Tuesday. While she was looking for his gift though, she saw all these cute cards, it seemed like they were describing her feelings, like they were made just for her...keeping her in mind. She just couldn't stop herself from buying them for Him. She got so excited buying them that she totally forgot to think how she would hide them.
She had to hide them very carefully from everyone, she could get in a lot of trouble if anyone saw them. She spent so much time writing and decorating them on Saturday and Sunday. She tried filling them with all the love she had for him. She wanted them to reflect her feelings for him. She couldn't wait to see his reaction when she gave them to him. First she thought of giving him the cards on Tuesday during tuition but she didn't want to wait so long and was worried about someone seeing them. It was better to give them to him as soon as possible, so she decided to bring them with her on Monday to school and give them to him at the first chance she will get. Once she decided she would give them on Monday she really had a hard time waiting for Monday. She was going crazy with the wait and to top it off she had the brilliant idea of hiding it all from him during their daily nightly phone sessions.
This morning when she left home with the cards safely secured in her bag, she was so relieved that they were on their way to their desired destination and she had successfully managed to hide them from everyone at home for the whole weekend. She hid them inside the register and kept them close to her the whole time waiting for an opportunity to give them to him.
When he called Anokhi to help him with his closet she thought of it as a chance that she had been desperately waiting for. She saw his confusion and surprise when she kept the packet in the closet. But once he started opening the cards Anokhi loved how his expressions changed from surprise to happiness and as he read the subsequent cards his happiness just kept increasing. All she could do at that time was watch him with love and smile in satisfaction. All her effort during the weekend was worth seeing his happiness. She loved seeing his smile.
Now they had very less time left for school to finish, 4 periods to be exact.
