Well that's sort of true too- I had my english teacher hammer it into me nobody can teach you writing. She was like I can teach you good english and grammar but the writing part is up to you entirely. She was a strict teacher but she was one of the best I have had ā¤ļø
I genuinely love your writings. I will try to pick up something from you too- wait I have no idea if I subconsciously tried to imitate alreadyš¤£
Perhaps the only piece of advice I can offer is that everyone has their own unique style of writing. Write what you love, not what you are forced into writing and it usually works out in the end ā¤ļø
In terms of what I do when I write:
1. First I envision the scene in my head and note down all the details I want to be highlighted (usually these details explain the character or come up later in the story)
2. I try to understand my characters as best as I can (Fanfiction is a little easier since you know the character personalities and you are just trying to fit them into your own little universe, but when you write without a backbone, understanding your character is key... even for Fanfiction, I try to understand which version of the character I want to be highlighted:
For example, mature, older ShiVi might have fewer nok-jhoks and insults for each other. They would most likely respect and love each other. So including loving dialogues, tender physical contact (squeezing of the shoulder, holding hands, brushing the hair away) would be more appropriate. For younger ShiVi, it's more likely they hate each other but somehow they are attracted to each other... so here you would want to include scenes where you are describing their nervousness and racing heartbeat, where they realize something new about each other.
3. I say all the dialogues I write aloud to make sure they sound alright
4. Always, always have some sort of progression or growth. My favorite thing to do as a reader is feel the emotions the main character is feeling and grow alongside them.
Progression can be as simple as the character feeling more comfortable about body contact or can be as major as a character changing their personality (Shiva becoming regretful of all the times he teased and taunted Raavi)
In my 10th grade English class, our teacher had us write an essay about our writing styles. I wrote my essay about how I did not like my earlier work, and how I liked my work at the time. My teacher called me back after class and told me that I should never be disappointed in what I write. I didn't understand then... but now as I stare at my old writing pieces, I know what he means. Even if I wasn't grammatically correct, or I had no plot/progression, I loved some of my older work due to the passion in the writing. I had fun and it was definitely reflected on paper!
So if there's any advice I can give you, it's to have as much fun as you possible can!
I am good Asfiš¤š¤ What about you?
