It gives you a goal a destination , it focusses, pushes your boundaries and helps you to believe in achieving the impossible. You may not win is a different matter. Without the attitude of winning you remain a mundane and mediocre participant.

Who keeps a track of what happens after the show, once the show is over they are out of sight and out of mind.

Very well summed up! Even if you are not in pole position, and know that 2 of the contestants have a huge fan base, still Go for it, and create such a spark,
