the way Shaurya is presented in the first episode, is like he is the prized possession, the prince, the eternal alpha male, whom any girl would feel lucky to marry.

The relationship with the father is shown after he has met DM and Tej sir, showing that he has utter respect for the latter. We know Shaan is the father later, telling us that Shaan has no value in the eyes of his son, because he is a drunkard. At this point we do not know the background story, so our view is Shaurya's father is an irresponsible drunkard.

We also see Devi's pride in Shaurya, Is it love? Or is it a sense of satisfaction? She takes credit for the handsome young man, he is.

Has anyone noticed that there is not a sign of happiness in Shaurys's eyes. There is not the twinkle in the eyes we would expect for someone who is supposed to be marrying the girl he loves. He looks more stern and going about his business.

On the Bhalla side we say a passionate young girl, having dreams and ready to do battle for it. She is ready to oppose her father. Despite living in an environment where her wishes have been squashed from birth, she has the internal strength toget over these and reach for her dreams

On the other side there is Shaurya who is following his elder's route, sticking to the norm of the wife being the house maker and the husband the breadwinner.

Both the leads have been brought up in families having a backward view on the role of women in societty, while one is going with the flow, the other wants to swim against the flow.

Episode1:

The theme music of the show .......on every saturday I listen to it and it lasts till mobday morning.

Anokhi teri jugni...song and the lyrics.Being a South Indian Punjabi lyrics were little difficult to understand. What a depth of meaning in lyrics....

The song depicts Anokhi's personality. An ambitious girl who will be running and chasing her dreams leaving so many hurdles that come her way...

Pankhon pe odh ujale haniyaara cheerne nikli....Carrying the light of knowledge..dispelling the cold darkness of ignorance.....True sense of Thamasoma jyotirgamaya.

Anokhi:Aa rahi hoon main.Tere saath chalne ki koshish kar rahi hoon.....Girl is speaking to her ambitions, her life.....You rock girl.

Anokhi..The Ambitious, beaming with positivity, confident ,dreams shining in her eyes, courage enough to tackle the obstacles, strength enough to fight for what is right and face the challenges.Jugni....a ascetic saint who wants to gain knowlwdge and become something in life.

Pyumori Gupta.....A mother character whom i loved since IPK days..

Main darti hoon isiliye tu bol paati hai.I can relate this dialogue with myselves.we all become that timid mother sometimes. After kids husband and wife cease to exist and parents exist as a single entity. As a mother she kn9ws her child would excel in anything but is afraid of her inability as a mother to bridge the gap between father and daughter.

Shaurya...Sauve,Sharp,witty ,handsome ,with air of arrogance who has his gaurds up to hide his insecurities but at the same time craving for love and attention from his dad.Touching the feet of TejVi he has completed the formality of giving top priority to them as they are king and queen of the house.Shaan like a typical father smoothening invisible wrinkle on his coat ,trying to shower his love on his son who does not reciprocate that back to him.

Shaan Sabherwal...warm ,affectionate ,a caring dad and loving husband just lacking enough courage to take a stand for his wife. The glee of happiness for his son and covering huge cloud of sadness for the absence of his wife on a very special day of their son.

Devi Sabherwal the stereotypical bosswoman of the house trying to control every damn thing related to every member of the house.A mother never feels burdened for the hardwork done to raise her child. But Devi sabherwal reminds both father and son that Shaan and Shaurya should be indebted forever to her.Correcting the daughter in law at same time envouraging daughter ...Typical Indian bossy mother in law.Rules, standard are not set for daughters but daughter in laws must be a puppet in their hands.

Shagun...A sweet young ambitious lady wanting to persue dreams and live a happy life with a loving partner...but surprised sorry shocked to see the obstinate side of her fiance to be.She represents most of the girls who wants best of both worlds.

Aastha kashyap Sabherwal...An elegant, confident sophisticated, smart, women who encourage her students, guide them towards right direction.Beauty with Brains personified .

Romi Bhalla:Typical narrow minded father who feels daughters as burdens and Son as assets.21st century but dowry still persists since unknown centuries. He does not have patience to search properly for groom.

Aastha Anokhi scene.Aastha bumping head to the window whwre there is sindhoor .....amazing.she respects the marriage but that is the only sore spot in her life.

Usko jo aata hai woh kisi ko nahi aata...That is kind of telling the world that Anokhi is indeed unique.

Aastha s words to Anokhi

Jo apne jehan mein hai use dil mein utaar

Whatever is there in thoughts bring them into your heart

Jo apne dil mein hain use zubaan pe laa

What ever comes to your heart express them in words

Yeh waqt tumhara hai tu jaa sharma

This is your time.Dont hesitate

Badlaav aayega nahi use tu lekar aa.

Change wont come to you .Be the change

Shagun Shaurya Conversation

Going to meet Shagun with a doubt....kind of dilema

His complement to Shagun is not so sincere.Sarcastic comment covered as sense of humour. His poisonous brought up by Devi and his rigid thoughts did not allow him to think straight.Inspite of her convincing words his past experience has clouded his intelligence

Anokhi s speech and Shaurya s caustic words ....what a beautiful way of showing soch ki takkar.

Anokhi s speech each word is diamond.

Iam speaking...Iam still speaking...shows the clarity of her thoughts. She knows there will be noises when she speaks her mind. She still continues.

Anokhi s first win and Shaurya s first loss..

Main Anokhi hoon...Phalaane ki beti Dhimkane ki patni....Striving to make or create her own identity.

Huge round if applause for dialogue writer and Deba.

Iam really sorry for too lengthy post.

This episode is gold.

The beginning of the entire arc. In fact I often went back to it when I began writing fanfiction on them.

Because this episode shows us what Shaurya and Anokhi are - Expectations and Dreams.

Shaurya is the manifestation of Expectations that he has internalized and become an embodiment of. Living under the debt of his Badi Maa and Bade Papa's affections, he had turned into what they expect of him - a polished, sharp young man who would always keep them on a pedestal and parrot their views, overlooking his own birth father. His dreams breathe through the pathway framed by Expectations.

Anokhi is the embodiment of Dreams. She dreams of her goals both in her unconscious state and her conscious. She thrives in it and it reinvigorates her to fight. Her dreams are so powerful that they nullify the set expectations in her life and gives us a girl who is wholly unique and powerful in her own right.

A mention to Shaan. Shaan is like a black and white blot on a beautiful colourful tapestry of the Sabherwals and yet this blot would one day spread all over when the pen (Aastha) will return and bring with it a new blank tapestry to draw (Anokhi) which will result in a new beginning.

First episode sets up the Bhallas and the Sabherwals. Both with different economic status but same regressive thoughts. Both don’t support higher education for women. Both differetiate between beti and bahu. Both seeing betas as an asset. Shaurya doesn’t want his girlfriend to pursue her chance at a PhD while Mr. Bhalla wants his daughter married off. Devi sees the bahu as someone who takes care of the family while Ramesh Bhalla sees a beti as a weight to unload. Shaurya is the ever celebrated son while The Bhalla son is mentioned as someone who will rake in the dowry. Both families play their role in maintaining the patriarchy!

You know, last time when I watched the show, I caught up in a hurry, I don’t think I appreciated the parallel they showed us then. Two families at two extreme ends of the social and economical status, but so similar in their regressive thoughts. The only difference how they verbalize it. Rammi Bhalla is extremely blunt and brash about it. Makes the women in the house tremble with the power of his physical strength. Whereas Devi and Tej, play the psychological game. Devi sugarcoats their bitter words and makes the women, the bahus toe the line with the ease of an extremely calculating, manipulative chess player.
Both have this pride their sons. But in neither case do I consider it love. It’s like this affection you have over this priced possession. N they have filled that superiority complex so much into his head that Shaurya thinks he has the right to control on the choices the woman in his life makes.

Loved the intercut scenes with Anokhi and Shaurya. Anokhi talking about equality and choices for women that don’t require a woman to get permission from a man. While Shaurya unhappy that Shagun didn’t seek his permission first and putting “choices” before her between him and her education. One thing I agree with Shaurya is that he was truthful about what he wanted from the beginning. Either she gives a full yes to being the Sabherwal bahu or its a full no from him. It’s not fair but we all make choices in life.
Yes! Again a beautiful parallel. Anokhi talking about what equality means and why women still need to fight for it. Anokhi’s speech will always have my heart. “Main Anokhi hoon!!!!” She truly is.

N Shaurya unhappy that Shagun did not take his permission before making a choice in her life!! You cannot help but notice and feel how cold and unfeeling he supposedly is, while talking to her.

But, having said that. I also have to say that he was right about the honesty part. One thing I appreciate here is the honesty. He did not hide what he expected of his wife from Shagun. Though as wrong as it is, Shagun accepted it, went back on her word and also hid the news about applying to Cambridge. It’s not fair what Shaurya wants from her, but she should have never agreed to those terms. I know, love makes us blind to the future sometimes, and we learn our lessons the hard way.

Loved the set up of Rama Bhalla who cowers and picks up after her husband but also gives Laali dirty looks 😆! She has a quiet strength about her. In a world that has taken away her choices, she works within the system. Her voicelessness allows Anokhi to have a voice.
Rama Bhalla - now that I am rewatching her. She is a complex character. As a wife she may have given up on her choices in life and let herself become voiceless. But, as a mother there is still immense strength in her. A quiet strength, which is fiercely protective of her daughter.

That dialogue “Main darti hoon, isi liye Tum bol paati ho”, it shakes you. It gives you an inkling that how much she has put up with. But though her spirits as a woman and wife may have died, the fire in her as a mother is very much alive.

Aastha is the guru that a girl needs. She’s supportive and sees the uniqueness of Anokhi. Also, Shanoor has my heart! Shaan is there in the family picture but for all purposes he’s like an outsider. Devi takes credit for his son and Tejvi displaces him off to the side and away from his son.

Aastha - a kind of mentor every girl needs. Especially a girl like Anokhi. Aastha saw in Anokhi, what her own family couldn’t see.
And Shaan - you cannot help but feel sorry for the man. Estranged from both his wife and son. Treated as an outsider and embarrassment by his own family.

How neatly Devi snubbed him and took credit for Shaurya’s upbringing and how cleanly Tejvi sidelined him in the family pic.

Visually speaking, looooved Jugni and the entire train sequence! Loved Shaurya’s descent down the steps! Loved how the Sabherwal men all came in for the photo. Loved Shagun 1.0 turning around in her gorgeous outfit. Also Sabherwal House is beautiful!

That dream sequence was so beautifully done. Anokhi looks so fresh, beautiful and fierce.
Shaurya Sabarwal, handsome Munda, walking down those steps with a swag.
All the Sabarwal’s look so regal and royal dressed in their finery! Shagun looks absolutely gorgeous.

And Sab house is just enchanting!

Precap: Anokhi goes to Gurdaspur and runs into Shaurya! The infamous takkar and “sorry” coming up!

Thoughts?
Can’t wait to see their first meeting! ❤️

Me in green.

I know! It still pains. Coz even when the wounds heal, the scars still remain.
Women like Rama Bhalla are seen as victims, but no one sees the strength she has. Despite how much the world tried to break the woman in her, they couldn’t break the mother in her.

You are so right! Sabarwal’s are all about appearances and fake pride. The put up a facade of a modern family but at the core they are all so regressive.

Shaurya Sabarwal is going to get his mask ripped off when he meets the fierce Anokhi Bhalla.
