Piu, what a lovely post!
Thank you so much, Prema 🤗Your post is so meaningful and detailed. I loved reading each bit of it.
PS has always been special for the way they have dealt certain issues as you said, acceptance of LGBTQ, cross dressing and today it was about men also being victims of taunts by the society be it for being childless or for unable to support their family and take care of their needs.
Exactly, they have been very progressive about a lot of issues and boldness of tracks.
Gautam's trials and tribulations started 10 years ago when his father died leaving behind a sick mother, 3 young brothers and a debt ridden business. He has been working non-stop ever since, Dhara joined him few days later and after many sacrifices, he still continues to work hard for the family and the business.
Gautam Really had no option but to grow up and step into his father’s shoes. He was barely 21, and he had to play the role of a father to his younger brothers, shoulderered the responsibility of running the entire household, and also take care of an ailing mother. Dhara what is the companion he needed the most at this point of time. She was always his well wisher and someone he could depend upon.
In this current situation, he has been so to be vulnerable, almost accepting defeat, expresses his fears and his self respect has been shaken, shown to bear the taunts of being childless and unable to provide or take care of some basic needs of his wife.
He looked very distraught and traumatized after everything around him had started to fall apart.
This is what I wrote about Gautam after the episode in the EDT
"In our Indian society we always see women taunted for being childless and men are not held responsible to fairly a large extent. But there are few times even men are subjected to taunts and that's what we got to see. It is difficult for ITV to touch upon this perspective. I am glad PS team had the courage to show it. All along we talked about Dhara's sacrifices, taunts and so on, I sympathize with her fully , but today we saw how Gautam was equally affected by all of it and more so the pressure/ stress of running a joint family. business and has been working non-stop for 10 years without any break, I am surprised he is not burned out yet. I really felt for Gautam today."
Finally when he got home and shared his grievances with Dhara, "tere ye Gaumbi na, zindagi se maat kaa raha hai" 😕 he regretted letting her take those pills for many years but she with assurance and support, lifted his spirits and that's the beautiful bond GauRa share.
Except for the dismal haveli track where I could not connect with Dhara, she has been on point, pillar of support for Gautam, through and through and he has reciprocated the same way.
I can totally relate to their relationship, bonding, support for each other very well and trials they are going through as a couple in these difficult times really touched my heart and I felt for them❤️
I just to want to end by saying that GauRa has my full support in this track.
P.S: I did not want the pregnancy track to start this early as they barely completed 6 months of the show (in the original the track started after 1.5-2 years into the show) but now that they have started, I would like the makers to show positive effect and not complicate it further.
