I honestly don’t mind taking influence from other cultures. I feel there is nothing wrong with taking stuff from other cultures. It’s how we evolve. Obviously that doesn’t mean forget who u r completely or think ur culture is beneath u. You should still be respectful n caring of your own culture. Because regardless of how much u copy others it will never be urs. Be proud of who u r n where u came from.

As a side note I always found our marriages far more interesting n eventful than theirs. Maybe I’m just old school. I used to enjoy going to marriage events the food the friends everything was always amazing.

lmao. OMG, I forgot all about the dances! Bride and grooms first dance, father & the bride, etc. So much second-hand embarrassment! Another gora influence I find really cringe is the speeches! The best friend (I suppose maid of honor?) and the father of the bride giving a speech about the bride/groom.

One wedding I went to, before starting the Nikah the molvi was like 'this is a bit unconventional, a little different but the bride and groom want me to say they are giving themselves away'. Lmao! Then he (the molvi) gave a small lecture about the importance of tradition (probably wasn't happy about having to say they're giving themselves away). It was so awkward.

The concept of the father of the bride 'giving her away' doesn't exist in our religion or culture; and the groom isn't given away even in Christian or other gora marriages!

Mentioning it here, since I found this OST to be strongly inspired (read: rip off) of BB’s soundtrack, especially the fusion bit of the male classical rendition!!

Don’t know if this drama is also on similar lines, but didn’t expect HUM to be so blatant about plagiarism...at least they could have given due credit!

Moreover, most OSTs of Pak dramas are gems in themselves...this was definitely not required!

Maybe inspired but then again Coke Studio has been doing this fusion sound for the past 13 years. The only thing that's the same is the pop and classic fusion of the male and female singers, it's definitely not a blatant rip-off (no need to give credit when the music, lyrics, etc. are different). I am usually the first person to call something out if it's plagiarized.

Coke Studio is quite something else! It’s in a league of its own...this is nowhere close, IMO!

The Lapaata OST is a very smart attempt at plagiarisation! A direct rip-off would have made things clearly evident...so they’ve taken this covert approach...one may miss the similarities completely, unless one is a fan of such Indo-Western music fusion, and has watched Bandish Bandits, to make the connection.

So when a direct connection is difficult to establish, where’s the need to give necessary credit...no brownie points for guessing the smarty pants’ tactics used?
