About rice kalash.....Maharastrians do that ritual.

i m my self from Karnataka(base Maharashtra) .& we do that Kalash of rice..but i agree, we dont touch head for tilak...men's put tradional topi & Woman has saree Pallu on head.& the elders apply tilak.no touching head & all.& then we do pranam of elders.by touching their leg..

as far as i know, Vat Savitri.they eat fruits, & its not without water, as shown in promo.actually.Husband need not be present there at all....whatever fruits u keep front of Puja.u eat that only whole day.that they mixed Karwa chaut here.

I totally agree on that and a similar thing happened again today with the griha pravesh as well.

Why not show telugu style.

When aarti is done, or even when applying kumkum, the tradition is to fold your hands like Namsakaram

Then the tilak in telugu style is applying kumkum below the bindi for a girl and at a similar place for a boy. No chawal on the tilak or no putting hand behind ur head like amma asked Raghav to do.

And the Kalash with rice, pushing it with ur right foot is not at all telugu or south indian.

When the makers decided to show different cultures, they should take care of these aspects and show the different cultures to the people. Every Indian is proud that we have such rich and diverse cultures, then why not show it to the whole world.

I wish the makers show the Marathi and Telugu traditions properly going forward. And I am sure once Raghvi realize they love each other, there would be a second wedding and then I would like to see them getting married in both Marathi and Telugu style.

Glad someone posted it, I also felt the above. On coming episodes pallavi will wear golden mangalsutra on south Indian style, many women's posted that mangalsutra is looking bad and out dated, I felt hurt and bad😔😔then I couldn't hold back so I replied I am also wearing the same mangalsutra, every family will be related to one caste and as per the tradition middle mangalsutra will differ. I am Tamil but some cousins married to Telugu people they will wear black needs mixed with gold and some wear with gold chain. People should see it on broad way, our country is rich and diverse. Hope everyone take it on positive note, really those kind of comments will hurt many people sentiments. I just told my view hope anyone don't misunderstood 😊😊

Regarding Rice in Kalash - Tamil’s do have a ritual like this

Just correcting one thing, I am Tamil. We never have the tradition of rice in kalash on any caste. As per my knowledge it was north Indian tradition. We never have that on any south Indian tradition because rice is considered as annam.

Agree with you on the tilak application part. We don't put our hands on the head while tilak or rather kumkum is applied. We just bow. But the kalash with rice and pushing it with the right leg when a bride enters her new home is very much a tradition in Kannada house holds. So you can't generalize it as non-south indian. Its very much south indian. I have even seen it as a tradition is some telegu households as well, but maybe not be that comon in telegu households.

I didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings here and I am sorry if I did. I just wanted to share my opinion.

From the few of you who replied, I understand that Marathi and Kannada people have the Kalash tradition. But I have never seen it in a telugu wedding and I have been to all different regions in Andhra and Telangana for my friends weddings..

My family is from Telangana which is closer to Maharashtra , I grew up in Rayalseema region which is close to Tamil Nadu, I have a lot of Maharashtrian influence in my family. Our family has Rao in their names (infact my brother's name is Raghav Rao). My parents, cousins, all of us address parents as Aai and Bapu, even the current generation kids in our family call their dad Bapu. We call our uncles Kaka (but only if they are younger to dad)... when i was very young, i remember my grandmother wore her sari like the traditional maharashtrian style, even now on special puja occasions where my mother observes fast, she wears maharashtrian style sari, I have seen many people in the village who still wear Maharashtrian style sari daily..... but still touching Kalash or rice with your feet is a complete no-no as both are equal to god for us...

And, all I meant was just hope they do it in a proper way. I understand covid etc but how much time will it take to get such info. watch some telugu movies, you will understand how it is done.

Sorry if I hurt anybody's feelings.. was just sharing my opinion.

I am not denying all the efforts the team is putting and I totally understand the mix of cultures. I myself raised in Orissa and my husband is a Telugu who was born and bought up in Jharkand-

My problem is this show is based on a Telugu show and the producer of both Telugu and Hindi shows is the same person, then why not only promote Telugu language and but customs as well,

Then the basic things like dhoti vs lungi and on forehead we apply kumkum and not vibhudi even if we apply it will be a round bottu, these kind of small things make more impact to the people who knows the culture. And by doing that the people who are not aware of other cultures will know few things about other cultures,.

Sai said nana for father we say Nanna. I was like this is the basic thing how Sai could ruin that beautiful word even if the dialogue writer says to say nana, he could have improvised/ corrected it.

my purpose of this post was not to offend anyone or see things in magnifying glass and pick faults. Just wanted to express my view with other members who have similar feelings.

I really liked that scene when it happened yesterday because of the simplicity of that. In all other shows, that scene is always dramatic. I personally like that tradition though I'm a south Indian. I like our tradition too.

But with this post, even I think they should have shown that in Telugu style. Amma is a Telugu, Rao is a Telugu family, Pallavi is a Telugu Dil, so they shouldn't have shown that in Marathi style.

I hv no idea abt the south indian rituals . So I will trust you guys on what you say.

But I think people should cut some slack to the directors and writers. See the show mostly caters to Hindi audience . Star plus is a hindi entertainment channel and its target audience is hindi .

So whatever they are doing is to appease their target audience . Show is anyways not doing dt much great according to ratings. These type of things are loved my general audience . So if they are doing it for attracting more viewers .....ders nothing wrong.

Besides dis.....may be they didnt study up on all dis traditions dt much and just went ahead wid what is normally shown on tv.

In any case .....its a minor thing. Its just a show.

Reading through the thread and very nice different viewpoints by all. The topic of culture and traditions, there us no right wrong , depends on the people dealing with it. The whole put your hand on head ehile doing Tilak is a north tradition, it felt more like Geeta Tyagi than Amma. But then from rituals perspective she is more informed than SaiShi so they probably followed it. The directors are all male and looks like not well versed with Telugu traditions much. Only major Telugu inclusion is by Sai talking in Telugu at times.

But I do not have a big problem with any of this because yes the show is about two people from different cultures but that's not the point of the show. The show is about Raghsvi. Language difference only makes it more beautiful since they try to accommodate each other within that framework.

What I understood from wedding sequence is that they are catering to national audience who is used to watching Hindi . So they kept wedding rituals very generic too. I'm sure for real wedding we will see more marsthi and telugu wedding styles.

But again getting stuck on rituals is not the point of the show. I loved it that though its Vata Savitri , they did not show Pallavi bending and taking husbands blessings. I like it that show takes a different approach. In fact in our traditions widows ..like Amma do not do Aarti and stuff like that. They rather have other suhagans or unmarried women like Keerthi do it. But tm glad this show is taking a high road and showing Amma do all this..afterall its her son and DIL and her marital status should not matter in this. Love it ..and support it completely. 👏

Even marathi rituals shown are not completely correct...I am Telugu person who was brought up in Maharashtra so well versed in both...so I am able to see that they are making Vat Savitri sound like Karwa Chauth for North population and make hero wear Tamil style mund rather than telugu pancha...because they want to cater to tamil audience as well.

Its TRP based show ....National audience watching it so making it relatable to most states is an important aspect. So I am okay with what they want to depict. There is a reason why they brought Sunny as Punjabi character into the show..for the same relatable language reason. You can see how different Raghsv's hindi is than Sunny.

Edit: We should not be using these shows to gain authentic understanding about cultures......thats available on internet or through friends and relatives for the really interested... and can also differ from region to region / caste to caste within same state or language. The show is for entertainment and TRP primarily the content needs to sell to gain sponsors . Thats the endgame.

Just my two cents. :)
