The only possible way for him dying is if he sees A & R trapped in armoury. So why would he get himself trapped. He should remove himself or he thought both A & R are in Armoury and went there and couldn't remove himself before blast.

Edit: V was not even near Armoury, even if he ran he would only get to the the door.
