You know I have been in this situation. In class, when we were reading beck paterson's poetry, during discussions I would often refer to them as 'he' simply based off of my perception of their physical appearance which again is a result of my conditioning (so much to unlearn! π). My professor would patiently correct me, and I would quickly correct myself and move on. Several of my classmates did this too, and he would correct us every time, not in an admonishing manner but very patiently with the understanding that this was new for us. It was for me at least. It was the first time I was referring to a singular person as 'they', challenging my grammar as well! But I learned!

Thank you, Neha. This was informative. I knew some of the terms but not all of them, so yeah.

There are many ways that educators can demonstrate their support for LGBT students, from responding to anti-LGBT language and behavior when they witness it to advising students.

LGBT students need to be treated with respect, on par with all the other students. Such guidance will display positive images of LGBT people, helping them to feel supported and safe in their schools.
This was so darn illuminating! Like it opened my eyes! Thanks for this, Neha! β€οΈ
