I have always thought why PS chose Veer and not Prem. The difference is Veer is 2 years elder than R so R would have been an infant or probably he wasn't even born when maharaj died. RM is very fond of R because he is maharaj's akri nishani and RM would have been busy with baby R and did not pay any attention to V.
