My question, why didn't Pallavi didn't open the kerchief immediately, was anything shown?

The most logical idea I got is he might have tied it in a tight knot. So it will be difficult for her to unknot it as it's painful to held your hands in such a position for long. So she simply decided to keep it there till he opens it.
