As far as K3G is concerned, I can’t imagine anyone else doing these loud characters with such perfection. To date I enjoy their loudness tho it looks OTT. It goes well with the flow of the movie. They also played subtle, funny, emotional portions well too. So a comparison won’t b fair. Both excelled their roles their own way.

I don't think many people came away from the theatres in December 2001/January 2002 and thought "Wow Kareena Kapoor really overshadowed Kajol in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham".

Kajol won Filmfare's Best Actress Award. Jaya Bachchan won Filmfare's Best Supporting Actress Award. Kareena won nothing.

Even with the songs, although Kareena's You Are My Soniya was a huge hit, as was Rani's Say Shava Shava but the biggest hit of the film both on TV and Radio was Suraj Hua Madham.

Post-2010, with Twitter and Instagram, the character of Poo has gained a cult following. I still to this day repeat SEVERAL of her lines on an almost weekly basis (the last one was "never buy things at sales!"). So based on that, today Poo is more talked about than Anjali. But I wouldn't say Kareena overshadowed Kajol, because she simply didn't. We have to remember she had the worst role ever written in the history of Karan Johar's filmography. Even worse than soul-auntie: Miss Braganza.

No. Kajol was the soul of that movie.

No. Both were ott and needed to be (whole film was an ott affair in extravaganza), and both performed well within their roles. Poo has become more iconic though. But Kajol's character was hugely popular at that time.

I miss that era dearly !!! BW films might be better made today with better acting and execution ... but movies like K3G really brought the whole family together to have fun for a few hours. And I have so many memories surrounding this film ... *nostalgic*
