Chapter 4 : Welcome to Delhi
Note: Monologues are in bold
***
Exiting the airport, Shaurya hailed a taxi and within half an hour, they reached the society. As SIAC was a part of the south campus, their tower was located in Greater Kailash and it was a 10 storey building with 2 flats on each floor.
Shaurya already had the key to his house and it took an hour to complete the formalities for Anokhi's apartment, which was, to his utter dismay, opposite to his flat.
"Pehle ghar mei rehti thi, ab ghar ke samne rahegi..... Bhagwan ji kya dushmani hai apko mujse?" Shaurya grumbled inwardly.
"Ab roz inka chehra dekhna padega? Itni achi shakal hai fir bhi saddu sa muh banakar ghumte rehte hai. Pta nahi kya problem hai inhe! " thought Anokhi as she glanced at shaurya's irritated face
By the time everything was done, it was already 10 p.m. Finally, after being together for almost 7 hours, both took a breath of relief as they stood at the threshold of their respective flats.
After giving a "goodbye" glance to each other, they entered and closed the door behind, with the hope to not face a situation like this ever again.
***
Anokhi's flat.
Anokhi placed her suitcase in a corner and her eyes became a little moist as she looked around her apartment, her home for the next 3 years. It was a 1BHK flat as compared to shaurya's 2BHK, as she wanted to make the rent easy to pay.
The hall was a small living area with walls painted in cream colour and a balcony attached to it. A couch was placed on the right side, with a wooden coffee table in front of it and towards the left, was a 4 seater dining table.
Turning to the right, a small passage led her to the kitchen and the bedroom. The kitchen was well-lit with wooden cabinets and modern fittings of taps. It had a tiny fridge and few daily use utensils. Anokhi quickly opened the notepad on her phone and started making a list of the groceries required.
She then entered the bedroom. It had wooden flooring and was furnished with a double bed in the centre, a two-door almirah on the right and a dresser and study table on the left. Anokhi placed her bag in the almirah, intending to arrange her clothes the next day and plopped down on the bed.
She started admiring the small paintings that were hanging on the walls, mentally making a note of buying a wall clock as well. She then texted Aastha and Shaan about her arrival in Delhi, and thanked them for such a well-furnished flat.
As Anokhi looked around the empty hall and bedroom, a strange emotion coiled inside her stomach. She was feeling happy and sad at the same time. Sighing, she opened her FB account and quickly typed in a name. Clicking on one of the familiar accounts, she started browsing through the photographs.
"Papaji, mummiji, apki nikki puttar Delhi aagy hai. Uski zindagi ka naya chapter start hone jaa rha hai...... Kitni ajeeb baat hai na? Jab mujhe apki or apke ashirward ki sabse zyada zarurat hai tab hi aap mere paas nahi ho. Lekin jab meri zindagi narkk banne jaa rahi thi, tab aap usmei khushi khushi shaamil hogye. (she laughed sarcastically) ....Kyu? Kyu mujhe bachpan se kabhi apse vo pyaar, vo support nahi mila jo mere bhai..huh! Bhai kehlane ke layak nahi hai vo..." Some old memories made their way, and Anokhi instantly shrugged them off by tossing her phone on the bed. No! She can't..she have to forget it. It took some moments for her to regain the composure and she quickly made her way to the washroom.
Changing into her nightwear, Anokhi locked all the doors, pulled the drapes and had some biscuits, before turning into bed. She browsed through her phone for a half-hour, completing some pending tasks and then setting her alarm, she dozed off.
***
Shaurya's flat.
Shuarya's flat was more spacious, as compared to Anokhi's 1BHK. The walls were painted in dark colour and the hall had a TV set along with a dining table and couch. His bedroom had a balcony plus a walk-in closet attached to it while the kitchen and washroom were equipped with modern fittings.
Unlike Anokhi, his stuff was still lying at the door, the curtains were not yet pulled, and the kitchen was still locked. Shaurya was just lying on his bed, exhausted. He had done only one task since he stepped inside his flat, that was, texting his parents.
"Welcome to Delhi! Mr. Shaurya Sabharwal" he exclaimed while looking at the ceiling
However, the next moment, his stomach growled. He was hungry and even wanted to change into comfortable clothing but tiredness and laziness didn't allow him to get up and do anything. So with the thought of getting an early breakfast, shaurya closed his eyes and dozed off without caring about the lights or the place where he was sleeping.
***
Shaurya's flat @10a.m
Shaurya's deep slumber was disturbed by a phone call. He scowled and turned sideways to reach his phone but ended up on the floor with a thud.
"ouch!" Shaurya yelled and fluttered his eyes open, rubbing his head. It took him few seconds to process the surroundings and once fully awake, he exclaimed, "Delhii..".
Sighing he stood up and searched for his phone that was continuously ringing. Finally finding it at the corner of his bed, Shaurya picked up the call and shouted a "Hello" at the caller without looking at the caller ID.
But the next moment he gulped in fright as he heard his mother's voice.
"Shaurya yeh kya tareeka hai baat karne ka?"
"Maa i'm sorry ..sorry....i didn't know....mai aapse aise kyu baat karunga...i love you maa...sorry",
Shaurya apologised non-stop and Aastha, though annoyed, agreed to his butter coated words as she didn't want to spoil his first day away from home.
After exchanging some updates, Aastha inquired if the chores and groceries were taken care of. Scratching the back of his neck and looking at the mess that he had created shaurya replied "Haa maa vo..bas abhi utha tha...".
In response, as expected, Shaurya heard a long lecture from Aastha, pleading him to become responsible and kill the lazy side of him. Shaurya just hummed in reply, simultaneously setting the bedsheet.
"haa maa mai samjj gya. Mujhe abi bohat kaam hai, mai baad mei baat karta hu. I love you..bye. !" And he hung up the call.
After arranging his bags in the bedroom, shaurya unlocked the kitchen to get something to eat. But to his despair, didn't find anything except for few biscuit packets and tea sachets.
Quickly taking a shower, he slumped down on the couch to prepare a list of the items needed and decided to eat his breakfast at a restaurant.
"Wow shaurya! Delhi self- reliable banne aaye the Orr Responsibility ke first level mei hi fail hogye". Shaurya rebuked himself as he slipped into his shoes. Both hunger and anger were taking a toll on him.
When he collected the keys to leave, the doorbell rang. Shaurya opened the door and was surprised to see Anokhi at the doorstep. She was dressed in a yellow salwar kameez with a half jacket covering her upper body. The wet hair indicated that she had just taken a shower and as usual, her face was deprived of any makeup.
"Good morning" Anokhi greeted with a smile.
"Um..good morning" Shaurya replied, confused as he looked at the contents in her hand.
"Yeh milk ke packets ..... 8 baje dhoodh wala aya tha lekin apne darwaza nahi khola isliye unhone muje de diya". Anokhi extended the packets which he accepted with a nodd. "Thanks"
An awkward silence took over and since shaurya was in a hurry, he ended it with a ".bye!"
He was about to close the door when Anokhi interrupted "Apne..Apne breakfast kar liya?"
"Nahi vo.." Before shaurya could complete, Anokhi extended a tiffin box. "Yeh breakfast...Maine bnaya hai..vo..apke paas groceries nahi hogi isliye maine socha.."
Shaurya cut her in the middle and declined politely"No thanks. Mai abhi bahar jaa rha hu, i will have something from outside. I have to buy groceries as well. So...you can take it back"
Though he knew that she meant good, he didn't want any favours. Moreover, he just wanted to end this conversation asap. His stomach has started to pain now.
"Aas paas koi restaurant nahi hai jahan apko iss waqt khana milega. Orr groceries ke liye bhi apko main market jana padega.". After a pause she continued "Yeh koi favour nahi hai. Apne or apki family ne meri bohat help kari hai. Bas isliye ek chota sa thank you hi samjh lijiye".
Anokhi explained, not leaving any chance for him to decline. She hadn't anticipated that the conversation would go this long, otherwise, she would have left the items at the doorstep and ran to her flat after ringing the bell.
Shaurya looked into her eyes and couldn't help but ask "tumhe yeh sab kaise pta? Orr tumhare apartment mei groceries thi?".
Anokhi shook her head sideways, "Maine kal raat sab online search kar liya tha. Orr Yahan delhi mei online deliveries kafi famous hai, isliye vahi se order karli".
Shaurya was amazed, "why didn't he think of it? He could have even ordered breakfast online..ughhh! What happened to you shaurya?? Where is your mind these days??"
Anokhi cleared her throat as she saw him lost in thoughts and extended the tiffin again.
To her relief, shaurya accepted it with a "Thank you" and then passed her a silly smile.
"yeh haste bhi hai? " Anokhi wondered in amusement, and smiled back "Apki jacket wash karke mai vapas kar dungi". Shaurya nodded and she went into her apartment.
***
Closing the door, shaurya transferred the milk into a container and made some tea with the 2-3 packets that he had found. Picking up the tiffin, he sat down at the dining table and opened the box, only to reveal his favourite dish - Aloo paratha. Shaurya's sulking face instantly turned into a grin and he opened the other two containers that contained pickles and yoghurt.
Unable to wait anymore, Shaurya finally took a bite by smearing some pickle on the side."mmm." He relished the spicy taste, alternating between pickle and yoghurt
"it was yummy! ". Shaurya exclaimed in satisfaction as he finished the two aloo parathas within 10 minutes.
He was about to close the tiffin, when his gaze fell on a chit stuck between the containers.
Thank you for the jacket
~ Anokhi.
A small smile appeared on Shaurya's lips and he stood up to complete the other chores after stuffing the paper in his pocket.
He ordered the groceries, arranged his clothes in the closet and washed the tiffin and other utensils. By the time he was done, it was already 2 p.m. , so he decided to return the tiffin and thank Anokhi again just as a good neighbour would do.
***
As Shaurya rang the doorbell and the door clicked open, a chuckle escaped his mouth at the sight that greeted him. Anokhi was holding a broom in one hand while the other clasped a dusting cloth. Her hair was tied up in a bun and her face was half-covered with a scarf.
Shaurya's chuckle shortly turned into a hearty laugh while Anokhi's face coloured red in embarrassment. She threw the items on the floor, removed her scarf and glared at shaurya with a "stop it" look. But he kept laughing, in between mumbling sorry to an angry Anokhi who was now standing with her arms crossed.
Finally getting a grip on himself, Shaurya took a deep breath and asked amused, "what the hell were you doing?".
"jhaadu ke saath mai harry potter wala game toh khelungi nahi. So obviously, I was cleaning the house" Anokhi snapped in a sarcastic tone, while Shaurya bit his lip and nodded, controlling himself from not cracking up again.
"Thanks again. It was..it was good". He returned the tiffin and Anokhi's anger vanished in thin air on his comment.
"You're welcome". She smiled, taking the box from his hand
Shaurya nodded and turned to go when Anokhi called "Mr Sabharwal ek minute" .
"Mr Sabharwal?" Shaurya turned perplexed but she was already gone.
Within a minute, she came back and handed him the jacket "Yeh..apki jacket".
Accepting it, Shaurya frowned
"tumne kya kaha abhi?"
"Kya?"
"Mr Sabharwal?" He asked irritated.
"Han..kyu?" Anokhi wasn't able to understand where she went wrong. One moment he was all smiling, and the next, his face was back to its signature look of annoyance.
"Kya kyu? Why are you calling me Mr. Sabharwal? Am i your boss? Am i your professor? ..." Shaurya had never felt this old as he was feeling today. He was very sensitive when it came to his age or his personality. He couldn't even stand when children address him as bhaiya.
Anokhi was bewildered at his questions and explained calmy,
"Dekhiye iske 2 reasons hai. (she went into her teacher mode while shaurya rolled his eyes). Pehla ki aap Sabharwal hai. (He gave fake claps at this which anokhi ignored and continued )
Second, aap mujse bade hai....orr...Maine suna hai ki ladke offend ho jate hai agar "bhaiya" bulao toh. Orr aap toh itne bade bhi nahi hai ki "uncle" bulau.. Toh isliye "Mr. Sabharwal". " Anokhi finished with a smile as if she had just correctly answered a question in an external exam.
Except for this time, the other person wasn't impressed but looked at her as if she had grown horns.
Taking a step forward, shaurya warned "Tum mujhe Mr. Sabharwal nahi bulaogi samjhi? (Recalling yash's words he continued) In fact tumhe mujse baat karne ki zarurat hi nahi hai. Na yahan orr na college mei" and he marched away to his flat.
Now Anokhi was angry as well at this uncalled outburst, "Mai bhi marr nahi rahi hu aapse baat karne ke liye" she answered back, making shaurya stop in his tracks.
He turned and replied with a poker face "Good! Problem solved"
"Haa problem solved" Anokhi retorted in the same tone.
Both entered their respective flats and the doors were closed with a bang.

Loved the light hearted moments of ShaKhi
Lol both fought😆Their banters wont end🤣
Cont soon
I legit loved them in this update! Super writing! 🤗Cannot wait to read more! The story is shaping up so nicely! I love that Anokhi taught him a few things 😆 she is not so bhenji anymore! ❤️
Awww.....I loved their interaction.
Seems like Shaurya will be falling first for her. I guess he will also get jealous of Anokhi's male friends and rant about her over-smartness, extra-friendliness with guys to Yash and Ahir when the class starts.
Pls update soon.
They went from laughing to getting mad at each other in a snap of the finger😆
She explained so cutely that boys don't like to be called bhaiya and he isn't old enough to be called uncle🤣
Wonderful update 👌
Love Preet ❤
Bhaiyya 😂😂😂😂😂😂 they are cute . Neighbor wala love hoga.
Anokhi despite all that's going on in her life is so caring towards others.
This was oh-so-cute 🤗😹💜
Shaurya is the exact opposite of Anokhi, lazy, lame, posh, the cool dude attitude & the over-confidence, uff.. 🤪 But cute hai 🤣🤣 I could totally imagine all this in real & yeah, it was hell funny. Especially Shaurya falling from the bed, Anokhi imitating Harry Potter 😆
She's so adorable, to have reached Shaurya's flat & returned those packets with tiffin too. The cuteness of imagining Shaurya gorging on Aloo Paratha like a kid 😌🤭 He had to be a gentleman & visit her to say thank you but his highness getting angry at the way he was called by his surname was super funny 🤣🤣😂😂
Anokhi is actually good at lecturing 😆 Her explanations about not calling Shaurya Bhaiyya & Uncle were lit af! ✌🏻😹 I was actually chuckling! Also, you had to include the word 'Professor' after Boss right? 😋👻 Its a must...
I really thought he would march upto her, corner Anokhi & scare her to never talk back to him at the end (Overdose of melodramatic ITV sequences maybe 🤷🏻😄) That last banter was anyway golden & I'm happy Anokhi said the apt thing to him...
Overall had a great time reading... Hope you'd update soon too! Stay safe!
