Probably the change is only because his health condition is getting better thanks to her care,just like doc said. From baby,so dependent he's learning to take care of himself,not feel scared,sit normally in his room. So yes,the mandap thing is just a reason to trigger his memories and make him return to his usual self. And to save her from all this hide&seek with the rest.
