Hello all, back with a new chapter, and a long one :)

Just a small idea, try to imagine yourself in the car that is standing opposite them, as if watching the entire scene play from a distance. The chapter is mostly dialogue, so I think it will enhance the experience:)

PART 172

Lakshman kept looking at her, as the wind outside rustled against the leaves, creating a dissonance that reflected everything that was going on in his wild heart.

She wouldn’t come back. Yes, he’d heard her right. All the sham of going to Agartala, waiting till the child was born, everything was a lie. The only truth in her words was the fact that she was going, and going for well.

“Bhabi... But I... you...” He shook his hands in an attempt to get words out, but they seemed to be lost in the depths of his being, and he didn’t have the energy to pull them out anymore.

“I’m sorry Lakshman, I really am,” she said placing her hand over his. “But I know, if there is anyone who can understand why I am doing this, it is only you. And so I chose you to come with me, because I know I can trust you the most.”

Lakshman remained silent for a moment, clenching his jaw as he pulled his hand away.

“You used me Bhabi. You used me for such a... crime. I should not and will not be doing this.

“I did not use you Laksh dear,” she said with a break in her voice, despite preparing herself for this to come. “I trusted you, and continue to do so because you very well Know why I am doing this.”

“Pray, tell me why, because I simply cannot understand.”

Siya looked at his bloodshot eyes staring right back at hers. She looked away to compose herself.

“I am doing this for my family, their peace. The allegations, the rumors are against me, so I have to do something about it. I am doing this for my and Rams child, they do not deserve to take birth in a world that will raise fingers at their innocence.”

“And last, I am doing this for my own respect. When I look at myself in the mirror, I see a woman who lives at the mercy of others thoughts and protection. I will not be such a woman Laksh. And so, this is the only way I see for all these reasons to be satisfied.”

“Bhabi,” he began calmly. “Which of these have we failed in giving you?”

Siyas breath hitched in their throat. She knew he was hurt, and in his anger his mind did not work with his mouth. Accepting his remark, Siya simply smiled.

“You all have given me more than I could have ever wished for.. But..”

“But?”

“But its my time now to give you something you all need.”

Lakshman shook his head as his fingers curled up into a fist, his veins threatening to rip blood

Any moment.

In a dash, he got down and stepped out of the car. Drops of rain began to crash on the bonnet out of nowhere, the weather reflecting the sudden turn of his life’s events.

Siya followed suit and got down to stand beside him as he looked away.

“Bhabi, you really think THIS is how you can give back to us? No seriously, tell me. We have tried our best to ensure that this didn’t happen, but it did. And we are trying our best now too to stop it. What is our fault in this, Bhabi?”

“Is it my fault that I didn’t pay heed to Naveen’s case after he went to jail? Is it Urmila fault that she didn’t report the journalists when they butchered our name? Is is everyone else’s fault that they didn’t take better care of you?”

“Or is it Ram Bhaiyyas fault that he didn’t love you enough?”

“Bhai! Have you heard what you are saying?” Siyas voice was laced with anger, and distress both at herself and the situation.

“Then tell me Bhabi, why are you doing this to us?” His voice was a solemn child’s, begging his closest friend to stay just a little longer.

“Because I want to see you in peace, and happy, Bhai. Trust me, I have thought it over again and again and again. Yes, it will hurt you for the first few days, but you will get used to it, trust me. Bharat and Maanvis child will being joy to the house, later you will have you own.”

“And why will you keep Ram Bhaiyya away from the same joy?”

Siya looked away, closing her eyes as his face flashed over her eyes again and again. His face when he talked of their child, how he’d pamper them, love them...

“Ram will understand. He wouldn’t want his child to grow in a world that points fingers at him. He knows I will keep them safe and never deny them the existence of their father. “

Lakshman shook in dejection, letting out a disheartened chuckle.

“Guess you have everything already planned out, Bhabi. And looking at this, ‘arrangement’,

I assume you will not even tell me where you are going.”

Siya remained silent, finding of something to say but realising her words were failing her.

“I guessed so,” he added In a deep voice.

The two stood silently as the rain began to get louder, sparks of thunder rushing in the sky. the vehicle opposite them stood quietly, not moving an inch, as if waiting for the chapter to close.

“Who are they Bhabi?” He tried to gauge the number less SUV.

“My, trusted guide and friends, you could say.”

Lakshman gulped as he took a step ahead towards the car when,

“They will give you the same answers I have, Laksh. They don’t know any better. And I can assure you, they will keep me safe.”

He stopped in his tracks, his fingers stuck in his hair as he tried to find a seeming solution, anything to stop her go.

“Laksh, my dear, please calm down. Don’t stop me or feel that your world will break down. No, it will not. Life goes on Laksh, a small change should not break you this way..”

“Small change Bhabi, are you serious?!”

Red dripped from his eyes, and his voice was restrained merely from the love and respect he held for the woman in front of his eyes.

“You are the core Bhabi, the thread that holds us all together. You have don so much for us, a single day without your presence feels like it is empty. And you are here, saying you will go away forever with my brothers child, calling it a small change. What do you expect from me Bhabi, I cannot be your blind follower each time.”

“Either we go home today Bhabi, or I come with you. And that is final.”

Siyas heart thumped in fear. The very look in his body screamed determination and the will that no matter what happened, he would not let Siya fulfill her objective.

“Listen to me Bhai, you’re talking from your heart now, but be cold and think from your mind once. You coming with me or me staying back will not solve any problems, nor will it give easy peace. In my absence you are the only one Ram can his rest his head upon. You cannotonly think of me and so this. “

“Oh, but you can?!” His throat burned at his own tone, but he had no control over what he said anymore. Each word was a desperate attempt to get her to listen.

“Yes, I can!” Siya spoke with authority. “Because I am your elder and you have to respect my wishes. I have planned everything for the better Laksh, and I will not put you all in pain again.”

“But you are! You are Bhabi, in emotional and physical pain. If you aren’t going to go home, then I am coming with you, and that is decided. No matter where you go.”

“The car is waiting for you right, Bhabi? Then great, I will come from here itself.”

“No you will not Lakshman.”

“I will.” He pulled open the car door picking up his phone and her bag.

“Lakshman for my sake you will not.”

“I am doing this for your sake.”

“For your Bhaiyyas sake, he needs you Laksh!”

Lakshman gulped back tear after tear thinking of his brother who would be. Lost in his own home once the two lights of his life were gone.

“Like you said, he will do without it.”

“And Urmila, she too? You know she cant ...”

“If her sister can leave her alone at such a difficult point in her career and life,I think I can too. Atleast she will forgive me.”

Urmila would break if she knew of this, and Siya would never let her sister breakdown. The two of them needed each other more than they knew, and Siya would have to point in out in the way she had never dreamt of.

As Lakshman reached half way, Siya raised her voice over the torrential thunder.

“Lakshman, for the sake of your unborn child!”

—————————

The sky seemed to show all its flashes of colour in one instant. The white disintegrated

Into hues of red, orange, blue and green all together. It was unlike something anyone had ever seen.

Lakshman stopped in his tracks, his mind rushing against time to register what he had just heard from his Bhabi. His heart pushed against his chest and mouth ran dry, just asifsomeonehad plunged him from the heart of a desert to the coldest of poles.

He turned around, as Siya walked upto him. Her own steps were faltering, but she managed to compose herself until they stood face to face.

“Bhabi, what did you... how did you..”

“I am her sister, Bhai. I have been a mother to her since the day she came into my life. She had the symptoms and I asked her to get it checked at home, and, our dream came true Lakshman.”

She placed her hand on his shoulder, now slumped in defeat.

“This is not how you should have known, Bhai. In fact, I should not have even been the one to tell you, she was going to tell you soon. But.. this is just another thing I ruined. And this is why, I want to go away. Staying here will only worsen everything, dear.”

“You need to stay, for Mila, your Bhaiyya, your child and family. Even if you rleentafter this Lakshman, let me make it very clear, I will not see my sister left unguarded like this. She needs you the most now, and it is my order you stay with her and bring up your child, because they are equally my own.”

The bag dropped from Lakshmans hand, as he fell to the ground helplessly.

This was the most cruel of games fate had played with them. They said that god did not burden anyone with more than they could tolerate, but the truth was, life had made Lakshman so numb, that he did not feel the truth behind any emotion anymore.

On one hand, the happiest news of his life, his joy and love for Urmila and their child burst through the heavens, while on the other hand, his biggest support walking away from them all, leaving an unimaginable void.

“For all of their sakes Lakshman, you have to be strong, and just stay. Please.”

Lakshman remained seated, his entire leading upto this point flashing before his eyes i disbelief.

Siya took the opportunity of the movement, picking up her bags and making up resilience one last time.

She bent over his seated frame, kissing his head and blessing him with all that she had left.

“You can do this Laksh, you need to do this.”

She began walking away, when a soft voice called out.

“Mila will not forgive me for this Bhabi.”

Without turning, Siya managed a smile.

“She will, she knows her Di can never do her wrong.”

Lakshman kept looking at the hazy ground as the downpour began int a way that blinded everything around him, except the foggy headlights of the car that drove itself away, with Siya in it.

—————————————————

It was an eternity later that Lakshman found himself able to stand up, his shirt drenched with rainwater and sweat, taking in his surroundings and releasing Siya had left, long ago, and he had not been able to stop her despite all his pleas.

His hand went to his phone in his pocket, that displayed tens of missed calls and a low battery.

Everyone at home must be worried. They were unaware.

Unaware of the turmoil that had ripped their family, and the challenges that life threw at them with no warning.

Bhaiyya, waiting for a call of her arrival. Urmila, to tell of their happiness with a bright face.

Wiping unsuccessfully his tear stricken face, Lakshman headed to the car.

Only he new how he drove through the streets alone in the deep of night. His mind was anywhere but on the road. She had left him with unanswered questions and too many piercing answers.

The gates opened slowly, in surprise of the resident at such an odd time.

Lakshman left the car in the driveway, trying to compose himself before he entered, but to his surprise, found the house seated in the hall in all alertness.

“There he is!” Urmila said as all of him walked up expectantly.

The broken look on his face torn them apart, and their hearts sunk as they realised something was not right.

“Hey, what happened? Was the flight delayed? Did Di board easily? Has she reached? “

Urmilas bombardment of questions were only met with his gaze, unfaltring at her.

She tried to read him, but only found lost eyes.

“Lakshman, she is reached properly right? It says her phone is dead and you too weren’t picking my calls , all of us were worried.”

He tore away, looking at his brother, a single day of separation making him look years older than he was.

“Yes, I’m sure she must have reached by now.”

He was unable to meet their eyes, as he rushed ahead towards the stairs.

“What happened to him?” Bharat asked.

“I don’t know, But I’m not liking it. Let him take some rest, and Ill ask him.”

“Bhaiyya,” Urmila spoke. “ I feel he’s hiding something from us.”

Whooh.

I felt so bad for Lakshman.... How will he face others? How will he reveal the truth? And Siya... how could she think that it's her 'fault'? Urmila will be so broken! I cannot even think about Ram... Such an emotional update!
