The way I look at it.

PD doesn’t need a savior

RR must take her as is

In the sense he shouldn’t marry her becos she is a widow

He should marry her becos he is going crazy for her and doesn’t know how to handle his craziness

So

her white is on him - he can remove it, he can put another color on her, he doesn’t care as long as he has her!
