I also think it's because he's been so lonely till now, he's finally found someone who's confusing him, making him feel and do things out of his straight jacket life and 'character' - I believe somewhere he wants to hold onto her and taste that fleeting happiness. To see if he's entitled to it.😭

Also Anokhi's connection with his mother plays a very pivotal part in this.
