Yeah this was Tess’ planning . She advised Sid to go alone left behind at home, eand put to rest his reservations about going on HM with Mithayi.

Thank God Boss arrived and questioned Sid . thatsbthe moment Mithayi landed up there in time.

Sid asked advice from Tess himself. I have no idea how a guy like him ended up being friend with her in first place. It so doesn't go with his character sketch

Totally agree. May be she is the only one who can tolerate Sid and understand him. Sid is so distant from his family members, all he can find is Tess as his friend.
