OS.
Anokhi had been feeling very restless after Shaurya broke the news of him resigning as a lecturer and leaving Chandigarh to join SIAC Patiala.
" But sir.....please don't go. No one can teach you economics as well as you do!" Kitty whined, more in the little sister tone than a student one.
" Yes sir, please don't leave us." All the students chorused but Anokhi was a little shaken up.
Was it because of her and her constant interfering in his life that he took this decision? Did she mess up that bad? Anyways....whatever may the reason be, she felt incredibly guilty. As she was introspecting her actions last night, she found herself to be extremely overbearing. Yes, she was right when she stood by her Aastha ma'am but she had no right to meddle in Shaurya's and Aastha's relationship.
The rest of the lecture, she was totally zoned out and after that, she walked to the canteen to work her shift where she found the students talking about how they didn't want Shaurya to leave. Thankfully, no one blamed her but a part of her was still guilty.
" Anokhi, please get me a plate of momos." AA asked her and she gave him a nod as she walked inside. As she was standing there, she spotted Shaurya sitting on one of the benches in the college lawn. There was no one else around.
" Okay Nikki....you need to own up to your stupidity for the past month and go and apologize to him. He didn't deserve to be treated like you did. You have no idea what happened but you still went on and on, lecturing him." Anokhi muttered to herself. As the momos were done, she served them to that stupid AA and then made her mind to go and apologize to Shaurya. She owed him one.
As she walked towards the lawn, Shaurya saw her coming towards him but decided to ignore her. This girl, this very girl had the audacity to say things to him, no one ever did and he did find it a lot irritating initially, but now he was immune to it.
" Sir...." Anokhi started as she came to stand right next to where he was sitting.
" Miss Bhalla, save any other lecture that you have in store for me. I am in no mood to hear it." He snapped a little. His could recognize her tone very well by now because that was the only tone she used with him, the lecturing one.
" I am here to tell you that I am extremely sorry sir. I have been acting like a complete idiot for the past so many days and I had no right to do that. I had no right to come between Aastha ma'am and you. I had no right to tell you what to do or not to do and I definitely had no right to tell you off in matters I had no business in. Also, thank you for not expelling me even after the way I was talking to you." She rambled in front of him in one go after gathering courage.
Shaurya, on the other hand looked completely amused at the girl standing by her side. How on earth did she manage to have an full fledged realization in one night because yesterday, she had been lecturing him and calling him heartless.
" Apology accepted Miss Bhalla. Do you have anything else to say?" He asked her, raising an eyebrow as he stood up, looking at her in the eyes.
Anokhi hesitated a bit. She wanted to ask him not to go to Patiala and instead teach here but then again, that would be overstepping boundaries and she had just apologized to him for doing the very same thing. While a small part of Shaurya wanted Anokhi to ask him to stay, not go to Patiala.
" No sir. I just wanted to apologize. I'll leave now." Anokhi said, giving him a small smile and then turning around, started to walk away.
" Anokhi....wait." Shaurya called out for her. He just couldn't let her walk away like that.
" Yes sir?" She turned around, looking confused. What else could he have more to say?
" Thank you Miss Bhalla. Thank you for not letting me turn into a heartless jerk. It was only because of you that I came to apologize to your Aastha ma'am. I wanted to anyway, but your words pushed me and it was the right thing to do." He confessed, giving her a smile.
She just shrugged his shoulders. She was determined not to mention Aastha ma'am in front of Shaurya sir and then she walked away from Shaurya with a heavy heart. She wished she could ask him to stay back. There was a heaviness in her heart as she was walking away from him.
" What is wrong with you Nikki? Why are you feeling such stupid things?" She muttered to herself as she started working in the canteen again. She needed a major distraction but all everyone was talking about was Shaurya sir leaving. The only thing she wanted to forget.
As she was cleaning the tables, she found a pair of eyes on her. It was Shaurya sir who had been looking at her who was now standing by the stairs, talking to Alok sir.
His eyes caught her's but she was the first one to just as quickly look away in just two seconds of the eyelock.
" Anokhi....come along now. We have english now." Reema said, who had made her way towards Anokhi.
" Yeah." She said, taking her apron off as they walked off to the class, Shaurya still lingering in her mind.
The rest of the lectures passed in daze and before she knew it, the day was over.
" Anokhi, I need to reach home early today. Meet you tomorrow!" Reema said as the two of them parted ways.
Anokhi too decided to go to the flat she was currently living in with Aastha ma'am. She didn't really wanted to leave her alone for a very long time.
As she took an auto to the flat, she got struck in a huge traffic jam because some minister had to pass by that road and so, she had been in the auto for the past half an hour, not moving a bit and that is when her phone went off. It was Aastha ma'am.
" Hello, are you alright ma'am?" Anokhi asked, the moment answering the call.
" Yes Anokhi, I am okay. Where are you? Shaan and Shaurya are here. The two of them want to talk about something to you." Aastha said, and Anokhi had started to panic. What had she done that they were there, wanting to talk to her and why couldn't have they talked to her in college and how did they manage to reach the flat before her? There is so much traffic!!
" Ma'am, I am struck here in a huge traffic jam for the past half an hour and it is not showing any signs of clearing out anytime soon. What is so important, please ask them?" Anokhi almost pleaded. She just couldn't sit there not knowing what had happened.
" Wait a minute, I'll hand over the phone to Shaan." Aastha replied and then there was a little pause.
" Hello....Anokhi beta?" She heard Shaan's voice.
" Yes sir?" Anokhi said, her anxiety at peak.
" Beta, we wanted to talk to you in the college itself but you had already left and this couldn't wait. There is a debate competition tomorrow with AOL college. A third year student had taken part but he had to back out because he has fallen extremely sick. Will be fill in? Aastha has told us that you are great with debates." Shaan asked her and she took a sigh of relief. It was just a debate competition. She had assumed that something terrible had happened.
" Definitely sir. What is the topic?" She asked, curiously.
" You reach here. Shaurya will help you prepare for the debate. Okay? By the way, where are you struck?" He asked.
" Near the signal sir." She told him.
" You should have taken the other route. You will always find traffic there." He said but Anokhi couldn't really do anything about it now.
Hanging up after telling him that she would from next time, she waited for the stupid traffic to clear out.
She was at the flat by 7 PM, completely tired. As the elevator took her to the 7th floor, she found the door of the flat open as she walked in, only to see Shaurya and Aastha talking.....?
What miracle was this? She rubbed her eyes a little to believe them and it was true. The duo was talking and Shaurya wasn't being mean.
" Thank god maata rani." She muttered to herself as she made her presence known.
" Finally Anokhi." Aastha said, looking at her as she kept her bag on the table.
" Are you feeling okay ma'am? Did you take your medicines on time? I can see that you have cleaned a lot. You shouldn't have! You need proper rest ma'am. You sit now and I'll fix dinner." Like the Rajdhani express she was, she went on speaking.
" Anokhi! Calm down and freshen up. You must be tired. I'll make dinner." Aastha said but Anokhi nodded her head in a no.
" Shaurya sir, I'll just come back in five minutes and then we can start with the debate preparations. Will that work for you?" She asked, gulping the glass of water down.
" Yes Anokhi." He replied, giving her a slight nod as she walked not but not before reminding Aastha to rest.
She immediately washed her face, hands and feet, changed her clothes, tied her hair in a loose bun and called Babli to talk to her quickly and then walked out.
" Sir, shall we start?" She asked, looking at Shaurya as she took out her diary and a pen from her bag.
" Yes Miss Bhalla, come over." He asked her to join them on the couch and she did.
" Sir, what is the topic?" She asked, inquisitively.
" Can clean energy drive India's economy to recovery? " We are speaking in the favor yes.
She nodded as the two of them started to brainstorm and Aastha also had a lot of inputs to offer which were duly taken.
" You guys carry on, I'll go and make dinner." Aastha said but Anokhi being Anokhi didn't agree at all.
" No ma'am. You are going to rest while I go and make something. You already have done a lot today. We don't need to stress your arm out." He bossed around and got up to go to the kitchen.
" I'll come along Miss Bhalla, while you cook, I'll write down the points for you." Shaurya offered as the two of them went in the kitchen.
Aastha, as she looked at her son and Anokhi had a smile playing on her lips. Whenever she has seen the two of them together, they had been fighting because of her. And now, looking at them, all she could think of was how cute they looked together. Only the future would tell what is in store for the two of them.
Thinking away, she went inside her room to rest for a while. Her hand still did hurt alot.
On the other hand, Anokhi was making Bhindi masala while discussing the debate points with Shaurya.
" Careful Anokhi!" He pulled her towards him as some drops of oil were popping out of the vessel.
She hit her head on his chest and that is when her earring got struck with Shaurya's shirt's button.
" Ahh." She winced, not realizing about the earring as she tried to get away from him.
" Miss Bhalla, stay put and let me do it or else you'll end up hurting your ear." Shaurya said as she started to pull the earring very hard.
" Sir please....pichli baar baal kaate the. Iss baar aap kaan hi na kaat do." She taunted him lightly but only put a smile on Shaurya's lips.
" Don't worry Anokhi....I assure you that I'm not going to cut your ear off." He chuckled a little, clarifying to her doubts but she kept pulling.
" Okay Miss Bhalla, enough! You'll cut your ear off now." He held her by her shoulders to stabilize her and he slightly detangled it from his shirt.
" Hey bhagwaan.....pyaaz jal gayi!" She screamed and turned the knob of the stove off.
" Relax. Let's just order in tonight." Shaurya suggested but Anokhi didn't agree and throwing the onion away, she chopped fresh ones.
Here, as Shaurya turned her diary's page to write the next few points that they had discussed, he saw an extremely funny looking drawing on the page but as soon as he saw what was written up, he didn't know whether to be angry at Anokhi or laugh at her childishness.
It was a disgusting drawing of Shaurya's face, completely angry and steam coming off his ears as the speech bubble read,
" MISS BHALLA, GET OUT OF MY CLASS."
" By the way Anokhi, I know that you are brilliant with your studies, singing, dancing and debates. But I didn't know that you could draw too." He decided to mock her and she looked at him, totally confused.
" No sir.....I am pretty bad at drawing and painting." She told him so innocently and honestly that for a moment, he had managed to forgot that she had drawn him on her diary.
" But this figure here looks really like me. Don't you think. The speech bubble even has the line that I love to tell you." He taunted, turning the diary for her to see.
At that very moment, Anokhi went red, then redder and then, the reddest he had ever seen her and he almost started to feel bad about even letting her know that he had seen the image.
" No sir....that's not you." She outright lied to him, looking anywhere but meeting his eyes.
" Who else throws you out of the class?" He asked her, raising an eyebrow as he kept the diary on the kitchen slab and took a few steps near him and she took the exact number of steps back as he took forward till he had managed to pin her to the refrigerator, both his hands on her either side so that she couldn't run off.
" Sir.....I.....I am sorry." She managed to stammer, unable to form proper sentences because of her proximity with Shaurya. She couldn't even think straight with him so near her.
" So there is something that can make you nervous too." He whispered in her ears huskily and she went weak in the knees.
" Sir....I have to.....to" Before she could complete her sentence, he placed his index finger on her lips and took a step back.
" You were right, your drawing really is terrible." He joked a little, trying to get her back to normal but it didn't work very well as she didn't reply. Instead, she started to cook again and all he could do was distract her with debate points.
" Our closing argument will be about the clean energy and it's future in India." He said and they were finally had. Anokhi was almost done, making the chapattis too.
" Yes sir. Thank you for helping me out." She was really back to normal for now, not stammering or getting nervous.
" Thank you Anokhi, for deciding on being a participant at the end moment." Shaurya thanked her too as they exchanged a smile.
" Okay sir. Why don't you sit while I go and call Aastha ma'am for dinner." She asked but it was more of an instruction as he nodded.
The three of them sat to eat.
" I had no idea that you could cook so well beta." Aastha said, taking the first morsel.
" Mumma had forced me to learn ma'am. I am not really a kitchen kinda girl but had to because dad forced mom and she forced me, saying that if I won't know how to cook, no one would marry me. Not that I cared, but papa did." She said, a little sadly revisiting her life in Kapurthala.
" The dinner really is great." Shaurya chimed in with the praise.
" Thank you sir." She replied and the rest of the time went in silence as they finished eating.
" Miss Bhalla, let's go through the points one last time and then I'll be leaving." Shaurya said and she nodded as they were done eating. Aastha had decided to call it a night.
It took them another half an hour to revise and by the time they were done, Anokhi was exhausted.
" Anokhi, get ready by 9 tomorrow. I'll pick you up. I have to be there anyway so I might just as well pick you up." He added the last part, clarifying.
" But sir, I thought that you were leaving for Patiala tomorrow?" She asked, scrunching her eyebrows a little.
" Well Miss Bhalla, I am not. Chote papa took that responsibility off me today afternoon so I guess I still have the authority to kick you out of the class when you frustrate me." He replied and Anokhi had the biggest smile on her lips, even though the last part of his speech had just insulted her.
" So that means you're not going sir?" She asked, trying to really take in the information just thrown at her.
" I believe I just said that." Shaurya replied, chuckling and she finally jumped in happiness.
" Everyone's going to be so happy when they get to know this!" She exclaimed.
" And what about you?" He asked, just as soon as those words came out of her mouth.
He wasn't really affected by how happy others would be, he majorly basically cared about how happy she was.
" Sir, you can throw me out how many times you want but I will still find creative ways to attend your lecture. That's a promise." She said, changing the topic a little but her eyes clearly told him how happy she 2was with the news and that's what he really cared about!
