At the time I thought she was the biggest Air Head! She still might be. But I agree with this comment, although I wouldn't put it quite that way, not sure how but maybe try to sound kinder. But she says what she says - it's clear.
If we look at the science of what she says rather than the possible offensive element, we can decode her theory.
"Ugly" people are instantly more interesting on screen. An asymmetrical face, wrinkles, large moles, birth marks or whatever is considered not "beautiful" gives "character" to an actor/actress. We see someone on screen who isn't stunning and we just notice their expressions of the character they are playing. When someone is stunningly beautiful, like Aishwarya Rai, her beauty takes away from the performance in some way. Remember that notion that "models can't act" - maybe it was an internal bias of us, the audience.
But then again, the most beautiful woman in the world: Madhuri Dixit is also one of the greatest actresses in the world, ever. However, that doesn't make it a null point. It's like saying "Beyonce is the biggest pop star in the world, that means racism has ended" - nope!
There are BEAUTIFUL stunners who are considered EXEMPLARY actresses/actors. But there are also some stars who may be not so "conventionally hot" and that makes us think they are amazing actors, an example for me personally would be: Rajkummar Rao. I do think he's cute, but he won't be winning "World's Sexiest Man" anytime soon. And I don't think he's a great actor: just watch The White Tiger and Shimla Mirchi. (although he was splendid in Shahid) - what I am saying is, he is very limited, and not worth the hype. Okay bye.
Lol the sheer irony of this is that it only applies to some of her fellow nepo-kids (*cough* Alia)...
And it most definitely does not apply to Sonam herself, she is a genuinely bad actress who just happens to be pretty, the two have no connection and this infamous quote just reads like sour grapes at the fact that even the most chaploos of critics and media people simply couldn't call her a good actress 😆
Who is she to define who isnt good looking?Looks are subjective and differs from people to people😆
Yeah, somewhat. It's not that less good looking are loved more. It's just when it comes to really pretty faces people are so focused on their looks they often don't pay attention to their acting or give them credit when it's due.
Funny thing is it certainly doesn't apply to her, though I think she is pretty. It hurt the likes of actresses who are known for being beauties. Like Aish.
IA. So much ugly on the screen will make people turn away
Now don’t get mad at me for saying this, but I think Pankaj Tripathy is a mediocre non-actor who’s been risen from the ashes and placed atop an undeserving throne.
Tripathy fits that bill. He cannot act!
As if she means to say, the person is loud, doesn't know acting and on the other hand not even good looking, still getting a lot of credit and considered a good actor.
While the other person is not loud, not good at acting but at least good looking, so must be considered a good actor. For example Sonam Kapoor.
Her statement doesn't make sense but it's all about self-praise centered around herself.
It does make sense in somewhat a twisted manner but the irony is that it doesn’t definitely apply to her. she is perceived as not a good actress not because of her looks but she is genuinely a very very VERY bad actress. More than being bad at her craft, she is one of those entitled wannabe actors who think that they have arrived and not put even an ounce of hard work in trying to improve their craft.
🤣
Why do I think she was taking a dig at Parineeti there? She was very loud/not-subtle with her initial roles.
Looks like Deepika is still bitter over getting kicked out of Spirit(and also Kalki 2)! And now look how her infamous vindictive PR is cooking...
