"The Green Eyed Monster" Shaurya Anokhi OS
"What are you doing up so late at night in the kitchen?" asked a pissed off Shaurya who had entered the flat unannounced as the door had already been open. Anokhi turned around and they awkwardly bumped into him holding a baking tray wearing a apron and covered with cocoa powder and melted chocolate. He looked away awkwardly while she went to clean away her hand. Shaurya was watching her in fascination especially the bit of melted chocolate left on her lip as if she had licked it with her hand. That thought and image got his heart pounding hard and his breathing shallowed making him uncomfortable and tight in his pants. He paced around to calm his mind. He signaled her about the stuck melted chocolate and she did something that almost made him stop breathing, an innocently provocative gesture of extending her tongue and licking it off her lip making Shaurya so hot and flustered that he moved in the Hall. Anokhi joined him in the Hall and asked in surprise, "What are you doing here at this time?" to which Shaurya snapped at her and said, "I just wanted to check on Babli...and you after whatever happened with Vineet. But tell me something? Are you stupid or something? Why was the door opened? Are you planning on getting this placed robbed and yourself murdered? You know anyone could drop in unannounced. What were you thinking? You three ladies live here alone without protection of any man. You should be careful and take precautions. What if I was a burgler, murderer or rapist?"
" First of all. I don't need a man to protect me or my loved ones. I can do that on my own. Second Babli Di and Aastha Mam went to sleep and my hands were in mess so I left the door open as I was expecting someone." clarified Anokhi in a pissed off voice to which Shaurya replied, "Yes we saw today what good job you were going to do of protecting yourself." "There is no need for you to taunt me on that. I feel guilty enough. Thank you for saving my nose. He would have punched me otherwise" said Anokhi in a grateful reluctant tone to which, "How would he have hit you? I wouldn't let him touch you or Babli. And you don't need to feel guilty. You should understand the difference between being Brave and Stupid. You can't take up a Man twice your size and foot taller. Physically it is not prudent. It would have been better to wait and played it smart at stalling him instead of provocating him. What if I had not come on time? The ACP was late as usual." "The ACP came on the right time. Who would have saved Vineet Jiju from your wrath? You already broke his nose and almost broke his ribe. We needed someone to get you off him." smiled Anokhi making Shaurya going red in face with guilt and embarrassment. She took his hand in her own to observe the damage to his fist which looked badly bruised and swollen. She sighed in sadness and said, "You should have rested tonight. You could have called you know. Did you take the Antibiotics and Analgesics the Doctor prescribed? Wait I'll get the ice. The swelling is still not down." said Anokhi moving towards kitchen and bringing an ice pack. She gently yet firmly applied the ice pack on his injuries making him wince and trying to pull his hand away in pain. Anokhi didn't let go of his hand and instead started blowing on his hand with the ice pack already in place. He stared at her in an almost trance like state forgetting his pain and when she asked asked if the Pain was too much he almost blanked out. He snapped out of his hypervigilent state and denied feeling any pain. She literally worked like a miraculous drug for his pain. Be it mental, physical or emotional. She finally noticed his awkward silence and got uncomfortably self conscious too. She finally whispered after tending his wound, "Are you feeling better?" to which Shaurya looked into her eyes and said, "I feel absolutely perfect. " She looked away noting the intensity of emotions in eyes which were literally playing havoc with her nerves. She went out if the room.
Shaurya called at Anokhi from Hall, "By the way who were you expecting at this hour?" Anokhi yelled back from kitchen, "ACP Ahir. He was going to collect his favorite chocolate brownies I had kept at the table. I was going to give it to him tomorrow but he said he'll collect it from here as he got off duty. He didn't mind. Least one could do after all the help." She ran back from Kitchen when she heard the sound of glass breaking to see the brownie pieces on the floor of the Hall scattered along with the shards of glass of the brownie container. "How can you be so clumsy? You were just lecturing me on the virtue of safely and then you do such careless acts. Don't you care about anyone's hurt feelings? ACP Ahir would be so disappointed about it? All the effort went in making the brownie wasted too. It was a thank you for helping me gesture and look it's now ruined. All thanks to you." Shaurya was in rage and pulled her closer lashing out and yelled, "You care only about ACP and his disappointment and his favorite food items? So he gets a thank you gesture and I get nothing? Obviously why would you care about me? And you are mad at your wasted effort. Don't worry i won't let your effort go in vain..." Saying so Shaurya picked up a clean piece of Brownie which had been safe still nestled in the half broken container. He ate up those pieces in silence and when she tried to interrupt he shot her down refusing to hear what she had to say. Anokhi went to the utility closet and brought a broom to clear up the mess before any of them got hurt.
She turned around and saw Shaurya going a nasty shade of Red. Anokhi gave him a shocked look rushed towards him and he too looked like he had the urge to sratch his body. She asked him about it and he replied, "I am allergic to Walnut. I am feeling fine now. But my tongue has just started to swell up." Anokhi panicked and tugged him with her yelling in panicked voice, "Oh God...we need to go to the hospital. He Mata Rani please save this stupid man." Shaurya denied and said, "I will be fine. I just need my Epi pin." Anokhi asked him,"Where is it?", to which Shaurya replied, "In the dashboard of my Car." Anokhi rushed off to his car after extracting his car keys from his jacket pocket. She brought the case with the Epi needle and vial and immediately administered the dose in a specific quantity. He gradually started regaining his original colour back in around an hour or so. Anokhi was still made at him getting him dirty spiteful looks. Shaurya looked at her and took a deep breath and said, "Look I am sorry. This was pretty reckless and impulsive of me. I should have guessed that the brownies had walnuts in it. Or at least asked you. I am sorry for wasting your efforts. For what it's worth the brownies were good. The perfect amount of soft yet fudgy. I am sorry the ACP missed out on them."
"Thanks for the compliment on the Brownie. I am sure Babli Di will be happy to know that. And are you really sorry that ACP Ahir will not have them?" asked Anokhi to which Shaurya gave shocked reaction and asked, "Babli made those brownies?" Anokhi got off from the Sofa and went to stand near Shaurya so she could yell at him from top as he was sprawled on the sofa. " Yes Babli Di made those Brownies as a thank you gesture for ACP Ahir. She wanted to make for you too but Aastha Mam told us you don't eat brownies now I know the reason. So we asked Aastha and she told me your favorite dessert. I looked up for the recipes of your god damn favorite chocolate truffle torte which is complex receipe to make just like you. Do you know how hard it was to keep on folding the cream and chocolate together in a figure-of-eight motion until they are evenly and smoothly mixed and the mixture has a soft, pillowy, downy texture. All these efforts to thank you and you being...you like the Dark Chocolate in your recipe show your bitter side."
"So you were making my favorite cake in the kitchen right now?" asked Shaurya in a tone of wonder and awe at her gesture. She gave him a confused look and said, "I was putting finishing touches on it after getting it out of the fridge as it was set." Shaurya asked Anokhi for a slice and she refused. "NO. Now you won't get it. I mean you will get it. But you'll have to share it with ACP Ahir as you have spoiled his." Shaurya gave her an angry look rushed off to the Kitchen bringing his Torte and said, "I don't like sharing my things. If I have something I want it as whole. No room for a second person." Shaurya got a plate from Kitchen and served himself a hearty portion of the torte almost more than half at the time making Anokhi smile. He licked his fork relishing his cake and offered her a bite from his plate signaling it was decedent. She asked him in an amused tone. "What happened to your I don't like sharing?" Shaurya whispered in her ears not breaking that eye contact, "Like I had mentioned it to you once before, you are a special case. I don't mind sharing with you. In fact I quite enjoy that. It's just I don't like a third person claiming my possessions."
Anokhi too replied in the same intense tone staring right back into his eyes, "Your skin is again changing it's colour. Only this time it's not Red. It's Green."
