IV - Hi Karan. Welcome to the portal and tell us more about the show
K - Thank you so much and I'll tell you that it's a different universe. It's the same characters. Asad is the same Zoya is the same. Asad's background and back story is the same. Zoya's a little change but the core remains the same.
IV - do we have a connection between 2013 version and this version? Is it like it's the continuation of the story or its different?
K - no no it's a different universe. It's Asad and Zoya but in a different world.
IV - Oh. ok.
K - Yeah. Not like another planet or anything (laughs) but
IV - of course of course (laughs)
K - just a different world
IV - it was such an epic show and people were crazy about the show. We loved yours and Surbhi's chemistry in the show. Tell us one thing ki shooting then and shooting now with her, how different it was? What changes you found?
K - shooting with Surbhi is the same actually and for me at least and for us and the way we are.. it's easy and it's comfortable. She's not somebody who's stuck to any particular way. She goes with the flow. I think she's an easy person to work with. And she's a brilliant actor so that helps.
IV - ok since you guys were collaborating after so long do you have any anecdotes? That stayed with you like a memory? Or something funny that happened on the set?
K (smiles) - Ya. So there was a scene of Asad and Zoya in the original series on Zee, where Asad and Zoya meet for the first time. Where he comes and the car goes around and she's just run away from her wedding and she falls down and Asad gets off and you know that whole scene happens. So we've actually done a few scenes from that particular season uh version in this, similar. We have the same meeting, because you know the way the scene was written, meeting like that, so brilliantly accepted by everyone and loved by everyone that we didn't want to change anything. We didn't wanna change anything about it. And it's so funny because when we started on the set on Belgrade now, this is..yeah it was Novisad in Serbia. So she and I, we remembered all the dialogues and every shot from 2013 and we said it pat. Like, it was.. Glen and Ankush are directors now, they weren't there that time Gul was directing. And she was the creator of the show. So it was ingrained in the both of us so much, that I knew every dialogue she knew every dialogue, every cut everywhere, anybody that any of us made the movement, we knew everything. It was like we just did it yesterday, and Glen and Ankush were like, how are you doing this, did you rehearse this? And I was like no we rehearsed in 2013.
IV - so it just came from the heart?
K - ya it was ingrained in us. Like I know so much, so many episode's dialogues. I think Surbhi knows much more also. It was awesome. It was like an experience, memory that I'll never forget.
IV - ok so how is the shooting experience for the show different? When you do it for TV and now you do the same show for web? So how's the difference?
K - like..shooting wise you mean? Or for us? As performers we don't change anything, because we still do everything with our full passion and intention and anything that we have.
IV - but being it on web, do you the makers have taken more liberty? Of showing content?
K - no no it's not like that. The difference in the making was only because that was 2013 and this is 2021. So nothing is the same anymore.
IV - do we see the effect of pandemic also? If it's set in 2021?
K - pandemic effect, no. I asked them. Do we want to do that? Because anyway everyone was in masks. Serbia had only 10 people everyone was in masks I asked but they said no and we made a world without the pandemic
I got covid there. I was there for the last two days (he actually meant weeks). We created a world without the pandemic
IV - the character you are playing did you require to do a special preperation for it work harder for it? Tell me more
K - the actual preperation I did for Asad initially was in 2013 Because of Master creator Gul Khan she helped and made us like they say no they carve wood and polish and make something amazing out of it that whole process was done with her it was ingrained very deep into us to me at least, I don't know about surbhi, must be also with her, so getting me into being Asad was so deep that it's not a very healthy. Asad has been with me all the time, all the time, I am sitting in a room I know he is there he was always there. It's not a healthy thing, but for an actor it is a good thing.
IV - is Asad the closest character to you?
K - aaa not the closest but the hardest I had worked for. It is a very different characters than me that I am, it is completely opposite.
IV - closest character you have played till now
K - I am not going to say anything right now because that's not about qubool hai 😂

K - for me I think Dr Armaan is. I didn't have work for Dr Armaan so much because the way I am we both are almost the same I am not a doctor and I don't know anything about medicine, and I played that for a much longer time, but Asad is something that I had to really hard for. This time I didn't had to work very hard for, but a new thing got added to it, last time he was into art and architecture and this time he is a World champion shooter I had to learn how to use a rifle for contest level and the actual scene also I won ☺️ it's very difficult and very precise.
Iv - u have mentioned about Dr armaan now I have to ask you
K - go back to qubool hai go back 😂
Iv - you have to tell me when we are getting DMG sequel?
K - do you know the lady call palki malotra the master creator of DMG? So ask her, Because I have asked her many many times and then they made sanjveenani also but they didn't remake DMG and it will be fun if it comes on the web it will be fun.
IV - I am waiting for that i am so sure QH is going to work for you and you are going to get many awards for that
K - actually I got all the awards for Asad not DMG whatever I won was because of QH
IV - all the characters you played with so much hard work it paid off
K - It is still paying off. Hardwork always pays off. People still remember and people still send me love and people are still waiting to watch so, God has been very good ☺️

The past year has been all things productive for Karan Singh Grover. From earning massive praise for his performance on OTT to pursuing his passion for painting during lockdown and after having recovered from Covid, the actor took off to Maldives to celebrate his birthday. In an exclusive interaction with ETimes, Karan Singh Grover got all chatty and spilled the beans on working with wife Bipasha Basu, speculations of a baby and his recovery from Covornavirus among other things.
On his recovery from Covid
I was very angry with myself when I got the virus. I often say things that I later regret and I went around saying that I am the anti-virus, and when I got the virus I was like why do you have to say stuff? As for the recovery, every person reacts to everything differently. I couldn't smell for three days and that was the only symptom that I had. I was told not to work out for sometime so for Bipasha’s sanity I didn’t work out for sometime, not because I couldn’t but just so that she doesn’t get stressed. Now I am back to doing everything and the recovery was smooth.
On his birthday celebration in Maldives
We usually try to celebrate our birthday in Maldives. Last year it couldn’t happen but this time we made sure to take off to Maldives. Bipasha gifted me another very beautiful and expensive watch on my birthday. I think every year by buying these expensive watches, she tells me that I should be on time. There is a lot of money paid to tell me that. Anyway there is this Basu fire, which got ignited when I met her. So, basically everybody in her family is always like ready and on time. And Basu fire is basu fire, it is behind me all the time!
On rumours of Bipasha being pregnant
We are so vocal and we share our love so openly and proudly that whenever there is a little monkey running around, everyone will know! It is just natural progression that people fall in love, get married and then after a few years they have a baby. And if you don’t have a baby then people start speculating that you must have a baby. Whenever ours happens, we will let everyone know, till then you can keep speculating.
On doing web seriesfor OTT platforms
I am very grateful for all the love that I am receiving. Everything is becoming digital and I think it got more of a boost because the whole world was shut. That's a good thing for the audience because everyone wants some sort of content and I am also one of them. And OTT is good for actors also because there's lots of work.
On working again with Bipasha Basu
No, after ‘Dangerous’ there is nothing. I would love to work with her all the time but I don't think she wants to work with me. She loves me in everything and seen me every day and every night. So I think she would like not have me sit on her head while she's working, so I guess that’s why. We have responsibility towards everyone who loves us and we try out best to our best. I don’t think she wants to work with me again! If I was living with myself for 24/7 then maybe even I would want to take a break.
On OTT censorship
Entertainment is entertainment and fiction is fiction! And reality is reality. If you can tell the difference between fiction and reality, then you should just be letting people get entertained the way they want. People are making such rules for a higher good maybe, but I don't think it helps anybody, the restrictions that we put and the reasons for those restrictions. Unfortunately everything said becomes a controversy. I'm saying that this time is given to us for making ourselves better in every way and not regressing.
On box office success
Box office is very important for me personally, but it's important for everybody in this industry. I have been ignorant in the past and said that doesn’t make a difference to me but I think it makes a difference to everyone involved in the process of making a movie. And at the end of the day, yeah, the audience is not looking at the box office because they saw the film, web show and took a feeling with them, which is what they wanted. This is an encouragement for the makers. Box office is important, no matter what part you play in filmmaker, it affects everyone.

It was in the year 2012 when Karan Singh Grover as Asad Ahmed Khan and Surbhi Jyoti as Zoya Farooqui made fans go gaga with their chemistry in Qubool Hai. After 9 years, the show is returning in an all-new avatar on ZEE5 as Qubool Hai 2.0. The duo reprises their roles as the leads and the show going to go live from March 12 on the OTT platform. Recently, the trailer of the same was out and it was well-received by the audience. Now, before the release of Qubool Hai 2.0, we at LatestLY got chatty with KSG wherein he was candid and how. .
On being quizzed about how he feels about the show's return after nine years. He replied, "It’s very exciting. It’s been a show that’s very close to me and also the character (Asad), so it was a great feeling when I heard about it and we started shooting for the same." .
Ahead, we also asked what was it like shooting with Surbhi after a long gap, to which he answered all things positive. "About Surbhi Jyoti, she’s been a friend since then, we have been in touch (on and off). When we starred shooting together for Qubool Hai 2.0, it didn’t feel like we are doing this after 9 years, it felt we shot just yesterday. Surbhi is still the same, she’s a fun co-star and an awesome actor."
Well, we feel just like the OG, the 2021 version of Qubool Hai is also going to be a huge hit. Going by the trailer, Qubool Hai 2.0's story revolves around Zoya-Asad and how they bumped into each other. Karan plays a sniper who is hired for a mission and it's linked to Zoya's dad. Mandira Bedi also will be seen in the series. We can't wait for this one. Stay tuned!
