I am a big fan of Alia's work. You guys know that. But don't mistake that for "diehard fan" - I don't do that for anyone. In fact I love most of the girls for at least one film or another. That's why it tickles me when people come at me in a topic saying "well you're a Taapsee fan that's why you hate Alia" and in another fan I'll get "Alia fan hates Deepika".

But what I wanted to say was... I think I agree with the folk (even if some are just haters) but the ones that are saying that she looks kinda maybe "too young" to play the role. Even though she's playing Ganga in her 20's and it is age appropriate, but my eyes/mind are also wondering what if Priyanka or Madhuri or Rani or Vidya or Tabu done this role. It's only natural, we do that all the time.

Like even in Rani's day for example, the mood was "yeah she's good, but not in Madhuri or Sridevi's league". So it happens in every generation, it's because we've already seen the all-time greatest performances for reference.

But of course I'm giving this film and her performance a chance. I am sure she will nail it.

Funny thing is, I don't think there's ever been a role "written with Rani in mind". Well maybe apart from Mardaani 2, requested by her Producer Husband. The irony jumped out.

Side note: I looked at your post history and there is very little praise for Alia Bhatt so I doubt you "like her a lot", but well done for the likes 😉

It was slightly better second time watch.

Alia looking young and having a 'baby face' isn't an issue. The issue is that her acting isn't gritty which is imperative for a role like this. She comes across passive, and her dialogue delivery is weak there's no edge to it. So her performance falls flat and she's just not believable as a teenage gang leader.

Saoirse Ronan played a teenage assassin in Hanna. She looked young because she was very young (16 yrs old), but she was believable in the role because her performance was extremely powerful and gritty. I had no issues believing this 15 yr old kid could kill someone without a second thought.

This trailer could have been excellent had they opened the role up for auditions and cast someone believable. The reason you get so many powerful performances in Hollywood is because they actually bother with audition calls.

So underwhelming... all round.

I knew this would flop (thanks to the subject matter as well as Alia) from day one, but this being an SLB film I expected that at least the aesthetic would be brilliant but even that is just as underwhelming as Aloo’s acting (both here and almost everywhere else) 😕...

Like why is everything so light and bright? It looks too sunny for a subject so dark imo...

Also as many others are saying I also feel Alia is hugely miscast for this role, both in terms of looks and acting...

She looks way too young and innocent even in the portions where she’s clearly supposed to be older... no where do her expressions/demeanour convey the kind of horrors the character would have gone through in her time, and no effort has really been made to make Alia look older, (let alone like a former prostitute and brothel madame ffs)...

And as for the acting, it just looks too forced and un natural... it’s just so clear that this role was NOT meant for Alia. Even clearer than it was in Kalank in fact 🙃.

Hard pass.

Lol true. I am sure gangubai s facial expressions were noted that whether she looks "menacing" enough or not before she was shoved into prostitution.

Koi logic h is baat ka. Alia the child acting like adult when the real woman were herself was pretty young when she was brutally shoved into dark world

Good for Alia, may DOD guide and protect her. I wish well, I liked the trailer.
