I have given this a fair bit of thought and each time I've arrived at a different conclusion. Before I started watching GHKPM, I had watched some movies and shows that showed amazing female friendships and bonding. Maybe that is why the sheer garbage of pitting two women against each other hit me harder than it should have. Agreed, if they showed Sai and Pakhi as Betty and Veronica, there would be no show. The premise of the show is the love triangle and you can't deviate from that. But many times, I feel like a brilliant opportunity has been thrown away by the writers on two fronts by not developing the Sai-Pakhi equation more. Firstly, had this been better done, the very bland character of Pakhi would have an interesting layer. Secondly, it could also have shown that two females are not either best friends or the worst of enemies, they can be a lot of things in between.
I am not talking about Kaku, Sonali or Karishma because they are gone cases. But Pakhi was introduced as a smart and modern young woman and in my opinion, had they made her grey while retaining this core characteristic, it would have done absolute wonders. I can well understand why Pakhi and Sai hate each other but I wish Pakhi's hatred didn't stoop to the level of doing the easiest thing to humiliate a woman- question her character. When Virat held Sai's hand and Pakhi asked him to leave it, I was impressed for a nano second. I wish the scene was just that- Pakhi asking Virat to let go of Sai's hand because it is wrong. Period. I wish she didn't follow it up with the statement of "koi isko pasand nahin karta, pata nahin kyun ja rahi hai lunch pe," etc etc.
Don't you guys think it would have been supremely interesting if the Sai-Pakhi equation went a little beyond Virat? These two women who loathe each other but stand up for each other woman to woman, if the situation arises? I have no doubts in my mind that if Pakhi were in such a situation, Sai would definitely support her. Sometimes you have to look beyond your personal opinion of the person and just objectively evaluate what the person in front is going through. For example, when Sai stood up for Mohit, she'd never even had a proper conversation with him but as a human being, she assessed the absolute injustice of the situation and supported him. Even when Pakhi's hands burnt after the masala peesna, Sai's heart went out to her and she put aside her dislike for a moment. I wish Pakhi occasionally did that for Sai and saw her as a girl, a human being and not just somebody her "love" is married to. This would've been an actual portrayal of a 'grey' character but now, she is out and out vile and venomous.
Why I only mention Pakhi and not the other women except Aai is- it's repeatedly shoved down our throats that Pakhi is educated, samajhdar, mature (LOL) and instead of just telling, they can even show it sometimes.
The point I am trying to make is- you don't have to LIKE a woman or be FRIENDS with her for you to have to support her when she is being subjected to the worst sort of treatment. If Pakhi had ever done that- spoken for Sai DESPITE her hatred for her- maybe we could've accepted that she is a 'dignified' woman.
