A recurring problem that has put so many writers off in the past, especially on IF. Please take all precautions possible to safeguard your work. And, don't lose sleep over it. Those cheats are not worth it.

Ohh Gur; really sorry to hear that your hard earned work has been for want of a better word 'stolen' and published by someone else.

I am not an expert on these matters but can you contact the person who used your work and have them publicly return your work?.

This is so annoying. Like why the hell would someone steal someone's work? If he/she wanted to post it in the Wattpad, they could have taken permission from you and post it giving you the credit. This is the reason I didn't write before and just started now.

Did you find out who did it? Did you take action against it?

Plagiarism is everywhere ....what you can do is get help from mods to keep ur posts for members only and get un quotable...so that they can’t steal the story...bad ppl everywhere u see

Yeahh, I'm going through all my fics and am placing the appropriate tags, but it's still not enough. Works still get stolen and it really does make me think twice about posting anything new.

I have messaged them privately on Wattpad; still haven't heard back from them.

I've also reported both the stories that they published since they stole them both. I have also left comments behind on the story itself so that everyone else knows that the piece is stolen.

What I want is for them to take both the stories down.

The bare minimum would have been to reach out to me first, seeking for permission. The reply would have been no though because there's no way I'm going to allow someone else publish my works.

It's shitty things like this that demotivates writers. We put in hours and hours for what? Someone to come in and take it away within seconds? Fck that shit. There's no way I'm going to tolerate that for myself or anyone else.

Yeahh, the link to the story was forwarded to me, so I filed a DMCA report based on a copyright infringement claim. As for the account, there isn't a proper category in which they could be reported. The best we can do is keep commenting on / reporting the story so that it gets taken down by the account owner.

The Mods unfortunately can't do much since the stories are being published on a different website. I have had stories in the past that were published using the NOCOPY tag and they were still stolen. When I reported it to the Mods, I was told, I can file a DMCA complaint independently, but apart from that, there isn't much that they can do.
