If you look at South Cinema, it is far more problematic than BW yet people think that BW is the junk. Most of the masala BW movies nowadays are copied from South cinema which means that the story of the movie is the same, then idk why people pan BW but praise South cinema. Another thing is that which has been verified by my South Indian colleague is that the actresses are preferred to be light skinned and if they are not, they are sprayed with atta, make up etc to make their face lighter and I agree otherwise there is no reason why a scouser like Amy Jackson with next to none acting skills keeps on getting movies in South.

About preferring fair skinned people, not only south India, it's a common mentality in India!

About the problematic south Indian movies, all the masala South Indian movies that are copied in bollywood, are actually better ( please note I said better) in their own languages. Lakshmi bomb is a actually a horror movie series which was a box office hit here, it's a one time watch, there's horror there's comedy, it was a nice movie overall! Kabir Singh was a cringe fest itself, I felt Arjun Reddy was overrated though I liked the movie, but Kabir Singh made me feel Arjun Reddy was way better! Just like how people feel about the coolie no 1 remake, we feel the same way seeing bollywood ruining south movies which I am stressing again is decent watch in our own language! So the conclusion is people should stop remaking the movies!

Kabir Singh was not bashed because of the acting but because of it's pathetic storyline, toxic masculinity and whitewashing of the main character who was a grade A a-hole. The story of Arjun Reddy was same too but that movie was not bashed by South critics. Why? 🤔

But who is bashing bollywood and saying south is Better? Even if they say it’s better , it’s not coz they think south cinema is devoid of problematic content

The few people I have discussed / seen this thought process have raised the following points

most south films and stories are based in India/small towns , villages except the odd saaho/spy thriller type movies which are based overseas. They take concepts from Hindu mythology even in regular commercial films...they root their stories in the Indian mileu which ppl back home might find more relatable than kjo/ adi Chopras newyork, London, Australia based romcoms which ruled bwood until the ayushmans and Rajkumars took over with their relatable content.

Most south actors are known for their amazing dancing / dance numbers so that helped their popularity aswell.

Fair skinned North Indian women who can’t make it big in BW , yet somehow become huge stars in the South without even speaking the language . Weird

With regards to the fair skinned stuff, yes there is an obsession butttt

The current top actresses in south - Pooja Hegde, Samantha, sai Pallavi, Rashmika mandanna, nitya Menon, anushka shetty, parvathy etc are all unconventionally beautiful and not ur typical fair skinned prototype

Actresses with skill and talent make it regardless of their skin colour

It was bashed as much! Kabir Singh was a cringe fest because have you seen the Vijay starrer! I seriously don't think Shahid pulled it off! And with south India they don't make such intense toxic love movies ..... they don't even make such intense movies! It's very much new for us, not every actors and actresses kiss onscreen, some protagonists don't even hug in the movies, and suddenly you get this movie where love is portrayed in a very bold Avatar! That's what got the audiences! I saw most of the students getting influenced by this! So yeah it was criticised, but it Vijay was recognised!

Starting from Anita to Amy Jackson, everyone is given so much hype! But have you seen the work they've done... All are sappy rom-com which won't work after one or two! Kajal Aggarwal and Tamanna are well respected coz of their work commitment, even Taapsee to a level have a fan base, Deepika Padukone couldn't find a place for herself even though she got introduced besides Rajnikanth. Only good acting can pull you off, we have actors like Simran, Jyothika( they are north) who all are respected and loved by south audience because of their works, even Isha couldn't pull it off neither hema Malini's daughter! So the initial hype is there but not forever! Not even item numbers can get you a place! It all ended with silk Smitha!

LOL it's not about kissing or hugging. Kabir Singh was bashed due to its disturbing story and portrayal of women in the movie. LOL no one cares about kissing, gaali galoch etc now. Otherwise most of the OTT shows would not be popular.
