Loved your post and the comparison to Jijabai. There are many similarities. Even the alienation that Jijabai and Shivaji had from Shahajiraje (right since she conceived Shivaji) because he did have differences with his father-in-law. For almost all their life, Jijau and Shivaji had only each other because Shahaji had married Tukabai and even disowned Shivaji as his heir. Some challenge this fact but the estrangement is known. So, even Virat has been Ashwini's sole reason to live through this oppression. And Virat, has grown up knowing half-truths that lie beneath the layers of the perfect oil canvas that his family makes. Ashwini has shielded him and taught him the right values but like Jijau, she has not taught him to wage war until compassion fails.
It is a fact that Shivaji was not a warrior initially. He did not fancy wars. He worked on tact and diplomacy. Most of his early conquests were through diplomacy or bribing commanders of enemy forces. But, when Adilshah sent Fateh Khan to kill him, he fought his first war. Jijau taught him to lead by the heart, show compassion and understanding. But then, if it would fail the value of justice, it was okay to pick up the weapon. In the last few episodes, Ashwini has hinted of this too : Ab main chup nahi rahungi.
Yes, Jijau never went to war but she almost did once when she received the news of Shivaji being unable to break out of Panhala fort, sieged by Sidi Jauhar's force. Jijau wanted Shivaji's Sarnaubat Netaji Palkar to arrive from another territorial battle to join her in saving her son. But because Palkar was delayed, she was so upset that she had already armed herself and was willing to rush to Panhala on her own. When Palkar finally arrived, she was so enraged at the prospect of losing Shivaji that she was ready to cut off Palkar's head with the sword in her hand. Somehow, Palkar is said to have calmed her and convinced her to stay back in Rajgadh while he went to Shivaji's aid.
Rajmata Jijau -- the one woman who held Shivaji when he lost his beloved Saibai to death. Although Jijau also passed away soon after and then Shivaji was said to have lived unhappy, going to war despite Soyarabai's attempts to take over the mantle of Saibai, she was truly not just his shade in the sun but also his mirror. Here, too, Ashwini will show Virat the mirror when it is needed (we all know it will be needed).
@ jankiraghav Your knowledge on Maratha (Shivaji maharaj) itihas (actually everything) is amazing. I learnt so much reading your posts.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!❤️
