OK I have a genuine question.

Those of us who haven't watched the original and haven't watched the Govinda-Karishma movies, if one watches it as a movie separate from the original without comparison; with an open mind, is it worth a watch in THIS scenario.

AUDIENCE REVIEW... CONTAINS SPOILERS

Okay so I have put myself through this for our Maroony, dude I hope you enjoy my plight before your new responsibilities take over 😆

The project is an indication that some things get made once only and are masterpieces to be left untouched.

One more thing: we miss you Kader Bhai, what a writer and actor you were. You were and will always be Hoshiarchand for me ❤️

OMG you did all this for Maroon? God Maroon better make this up to you. The trailer and songs gave away how bad the movie was going to be so I'm not surprised by your review at all.

Fun fact - this movie is so bad that it released and went on air on TV today itself. I was flipping through channels and there it was - I think it was B4U Movies but I can't be too sure.

@ Red: The OG had a brand of its own. It's a problematic movie. Most of Govinda's movies are, but they worked man. And they worked especially because of the acting and the writing. And Kader bhai. Paresh Rawal is a great actor, but even he can't match Kader sir.

Don't. Please don't. I didn't remember the OG movie, but after seeing the trailer I went back to see the original because VD and Sara both overact and the comedy seemed forced - and that's just from the trailer.

Seriously watch the original if you really want to see the movie. I would say the same for Judwaa as well. Watch the original, not VD's remake.

An I appreciate that from the bottom of my non existent heart 😆

For that you get a favor. So anything you need I’m there. An if I can’t do it I’ll fake my way thru it 😎

An having seen the movie I can’t retreat on my earlier position. I now for sure think something haram was going on. Then chemistry of Sara snd Varun was too too natural 😍😍

I’ll do Whatever she asks. Except there’s a whole list of stuff I probably can’t do 😆 But I’ll wing it 👍🏼

Let me preface either I never saw OG Coolie no.1 or I just forgot it. I must rewatch it.

I saw it and it was frivolous. But it was frivolous fun. Varun was OTT for a bit. But he was fine most of the time. That one part where their going to live in the mansion an he keeps trying to stay back was alone worth re watching 😆 Paresh Rawal , Johnny Lever and his 1 friend also. Sara Ali Khan half naked again alone worth rewatching 😆 (so much passion between our lead characters) 😋😋😋🥰 I was fine with the songs. My favorite was Mummy Kasam ( Udit Naryan) Yes it has length issues and plot issues. An poor acting in certain junctions. But come on it passed the time and that’s all I ask ❤️

I won’t recommend it to anyone or even watch it again without heavy forwarding but I still can’t diss it out right. Ya never can be too old for these movies 😉

It wasn't as bad as I had feared. It helps that I'm not a Govinda fan and hasn't watched the original. Certainly it has none of the crass misogynistic humor of Judwaa 2. Loved Big B's animated cameo at the beginning explaining Varun's past. The first half zipped by with quite a few laughs. Now for the cons. The comedy was slapstick and juvenile. Johnny Lever and Rajkumar Yadav were unbearable. Varun in drag and the climax at the end was terrible. The girls had nothing much to do. Sara forgave Varun too easily. So either my standards are slipping with age or I've become a Varun Dhawan fan girl.😲

watched it,for those who have not watched the OG version will like the film and for those who have grow up seeing the OG will definitely not like the film and my verdict is its a time pass movie one time watch unlike the OG version which has a repeat value

varun-sara can never match govinda-karishma chemistry and energy which is the usp of all their films in the 90s, but varun-sara had chemistry hope they are paired again in more meaningful cinema

such comedies works in the 90s but will not work in 2020 so DD modified it to appeal the current gen audience just like he did for judwaa 2,he needs to understand that 90s classic should not be remade and to be honest he should not remake any govinda-karishma starrer noone can match them

it was a good time pass movie i still prefer the original version with govinda-karishma. I am going to revisit the old one to refresh and relive my childhood

varun is ok but it goes OTT when he imitates other actors i prefer him as kunwar raj pratap singh than coolie raju. Gosh i really miss the chemistry of kader saab-govinda that was the main usp in the original which was missing in this version, paresh ji was strictly ok

the girls has nothing much to do but sara was ok

jhonny lever was hilarious

the songs were amazing becos they retain the original songs while one song has been edited which is Tere Siva and my fav is Mummy Kasam, varun was awesome in that song

it seem like both varun-sara pressure themselves since they need to fit in govinda-karishma shoes but i liked their chemistry

its a timepass movie...its better not to compare with the original otherwise you might not enjoy it

gosh DD even use saajan chale sasural 'tum to dhokhebaaz ho'song tune in the climax when varun and his friend dress up as nurses

I hope he doesn't remake this film

its the same film, scenes and dialogues of original coolie no 1 but modified for the current gen

its better not to touch 90s golden classics especially govinda-karishma films and songs becos legends will remain legends there is no replacement at all

being a 90s kid grew up watching the original film,it made me see govinda-karishma in every frame❤this is why they are known as legendary pair becos their chemistry is just so beautiful if they can make Sar Kay Lo Khatiya iconic their chemistry has no match at all

David also copied haseena maan jaayegi scene, the one where Karisma sings in mans voice. Also copied saajan chale sasural, where Govinda switches rooms between tabu and Karisma.

David can’t direct anymore. He should just stop.

I don't remember the original Coolie No1 except the songs but this was a very enjoyable watch. Better than the Judwaa remake for sure.

Having said that, I did roll my eyes and say what the hell at the absurdity of some of these scenes but it was just fun and games. Maybe I've been watching too much heavy stuff lately but this was a lovely, bright, switch off your brains movie to end this crappy year with.
