Hey. This post echoes the concerns of almost all the Indian drama viewers.πŸ‘ It is as if the basic framework of all the shows is pretty much the same. The male lead's got to be powerful, dominating and the girl has to be the subservient one. Haven't watched many Indian soaps, but I remember Suman from Ek Duje ke vaste. While I have a certain set of issues with that show as well, the character of the female lead was well-portrayed, at least till a point. She was strong, independent and gave the male lead "takkar." I believe the writers need to lend more depth and strength to the female characters as well, so that for once we don't pity them. They can be strong, without being evil or manipulative, just like girls today are.

Most of female leads in itv are treated like doormat. The role you have mentioned though I didn't watch but till date how many female lead roles in itv shows I have watched I found naamkaran's show's avni is strongest female lead role among all.

I liked Mauli from Silsila.

Yup that's the issue.

Even Sonakshi Bose from KRPKAB till a certain point was a strong FL

I liked kuch rang pyaar ke.. Erica’s character was strong( relative to iTV leads)

We need to have young talented rich Business women & struggling actor (New gul’s show on sony may be that)

But honestly how many Indians can accept wife earning more than husband?

ufff mauli was my fav character, though I'm a fan of other actress I couldn't relate to her even 1% and mauli was even the actress.

There's always a certain point where we start to feel irritated/angered by a character but mauli's character was consistent.

May be 10% Indian male will.

It took my husband about 12 years to accept and support me in my career!

Problem with most ITV female leads is that, no matter how strong they are written initially, after one point they will have to bow down to the male lead...who will invariably be richer and more powerful.

Anika was also quite strong n muphat but she too became submissive to Shivaay. Same with Khushi in IPKKND. Same with Riddhima even after she fell for Vansh.
