Aww...such an cute conversation and to the point. I love how he is persistent. Naina needs to grow up. It’s going to take lot more in his side to make Viveka agree. There are just to many external forces that are against them.

Bounded Rationality & Babies

He had asked her if she wanted to pay, she was shocked that he didn’t assume he had to pay

She nodded and pulled her wallet out

He looked at what a mash up of things she had in her mirrorwork drawstring pouch tucked down deep in her leather tote

“I have two more of these totes with a zipper but this is my lucky one” “I have to be careful when I take the Metro that’s why my rustic purse is tucked down” she stood up to dig it from down under

“I am hoping my purse wasn’t picked when I walked out the Metro station at JNU” she chuckled

“Wallah” she squealed waving it

She didn’t pause a second to calculate the tip he noticed, must be strong in math

“When will you know about Spring admission?”

“Oh… if they invite me to interview in November I can start dancing” glass pushup

“Ah… a dance again huh?”

“NOT like THAT dance” she smiled

“Did u see me dance?” she enquired

“No I haven’t

With no shame or coyness she went to her phone and pulled up the “official” Bollywood style crafted video from the engagement and showed him

She looked and acted like a different person to him

Face flushed, eyes even bigger, more make up? Or just makeup?”

He didn’t care for the admiring looks the men in those round white tables right under the stage gave her

He handed it back

“I could try my luck in Bollywood and become a background dancer” she laughed

He realized she was grounded about everything

“Why background?”

“Have you seen any movies recently? They are not a day older than 18” “I get to play their Moms” she laughed hysterically

“Why cant you stay longer Viveka?”

She paused losing track of what she was doing, filing the credit card receipt away neatly

“Papa has to take Dadu anD Dadi to Bua’s and then they all go to NOIDA

“Oh”

“Thanks for meeting with me”

“I loved it” he said quietly

“Thanks for the ride”

“Sure… are you headed home?”

“Haan… abhi aur kahin gayi to twins bhaag jaayengi” she laughed

“I will drop you home”

She turned pink

“I can take a Metro… just”

“No”

They walked out together to a cool breezy non rainy evening

It took a while to get to the car in all the puddles

He waited patiently and offered his hand on a couple

She checked her messages

“I cannot believe you are doing this… don’t you have any feelings for me?” Naina’s top text

She quickly turned the phone as he began to drive

“How long do you think you will need” he asked

“Ah… oh? Umm… I… “ she didn’t know what to say

“We are from different worlds altogether” she said quietly looking out the window

“Bounded rationality they say, in my field…. A theory of human decision making (which) assumes that people behave rationally within the limits of information available to them

He didn’t respond

“ The life I know is the life Ive had with my sisters and family and JNU and DU….I look forward to a life of trying to make a career while juggling Metro rides with a baby in the arm, and arguing with my househelp like Ma… she travels overseas I wont even do that I know” she smiled thoughtfully

“Uh”

“I might go to tiny villages in UP and Rajasthan to work with craftsmen/women probably” “I will write a thousand letters to policy makers… none will get read… I will spend decades hoping to become an authority so I can moonlight for NCAER (Natl Council for Applied Econ Res) or some think tank

“And You cant do that if you marry me?” he asked

Uh? Umm…”

“I could so do all those… for sure” her heart promised suddenly

“Are you in love with Abhishek?” he asked bluntly

“Oh NO!” she responded in a nanosecond

The two of them are ❤️

And Naina is 💔

The Jaipur bit of the conversation... that blew me off!!

“I am only obsessed with my Ph D right now… they waitlisted me” she was almost in tears

It annoyed him that she had not shown any silly emotion like that for HIM

She's such a cutie.. worrying for her PhD that way!

And then is he getting jealous of her love for a subject?? 😆 Haaayyeee!!

“As long as you promise to get it off the bed at night”

Just HOW does one reply to THAT?? 👏☺️

“Why cant you stay longer Viveka?”

“I will drop you home”

“How long do you think you will need” he asked

He's going to make it hard to say no to him!!👏👍🏼

The future she visualizes is so simple and realistic.. while she wants to be an achiever, make a difference... she's equally grounded as well!!

The way he insists on dropping her home or imagines driving her home from work... I doubt he'll let her juggle metro rides with a baby in her arms😳

I also loved that they don't consider the Inder-Naina situation to be the key factor in their equation! Maybe for altogether different reasons, but both don't think that's the first term of reference for them..

It will come up, maybe create problems now and later.. but atleast it isn't the deciding factor!

What about possible flaws in the information you think you have . Or if not flaws then more new information that you have got now in hand to include it within the framework of bounded rationality .

In asking if she can't do that if she marries him, he's offering her principle of solidarity and collaboration. Bounded rationality has to include this new subset of information to bring it into consideration for effective decision making . Otherwise bounded rationality in theory can be seen as flawed 😛
