Oh if you are i to south Indian films i have some great rec lists with links and subtitles up on my blog that I can link you too😆 this is my fav thing to do getting more people into South Indian cinema and now toh it's so much easier access too 😆 just so you know this one is about being comfortable in one's own sexuality everyone exploring that in one way or other

So we have the kid and trans father (the best story imo)

A bunch of teenagers who are into adult stuff 😆 until one day they find out that one of their mother was an ex point star (played by the awesome ramya Krishnan of baahubali fame)

A cheating wife who accidently ends up killing her flame and hides him.in the fridge😆And how her and her husband then have to hide him.

And forth story I am kind of forgetting they all sound super weird and uncomfortable to watch on paper but trust me the treatment is so well done that one doesn't feel awkward and it's done in a very very classy way. Their is a reason why it is so critically acclaimed and so enjoyable plus it has the better of cast from all south industries

You have vijay sethupathi(mainly tamil) fahadh(malayalam) sam from telugu industry

Special shoutout to sam for taking this right after her real wedding and doing it as she said in one of the IV everyone told her her career will be over caz she is doing a cheating wife just when she got married but chaityanya told her to go for it and she was convinced and hehe it paid. It solidified her as an actress now and am glad she has been taking more performance oriented roles and not being a glam doll anymore

So it is very intresting to see them all coming together for a tamil film. This one i can't stop praising enough like this was what wow looks like

I hope you like it though

It is a very clever mix of dark humor and thriller but actually holding a message too

Also tw there's a scene involving the father(trans) being sexually harassed at the police station just caz he identifies himself as a woman really eye opening stuff and it's rare to see desi cinema exploring all these things so well

So yeah my point being everyone thought an Akshay Kumar is doing something amazing being dressing up as a woman and playing a trans when all it is is maha cringe and nonsense and am sorry when I have a vijay doing such a brilliant job just months ago toh I well judge and hold a grudge against hindi audience or a jayasurya playing marykutyy which talks again about all the issues a trans person has to deal with in their day to day and in a non offensive way toh I will judge and crib and take all the offence when and Akshay Kumar plays a joke in name of being oh so mahaan hasti to dress up in a sari Matlab widen your horizons before giving him a novel price and watch actual content that is daring in the actual sense of word .

Sorry thoda zyada ho gaya but am touchy when South Indian content is being generalized to hype cringe bollywood currently they could never dare to make a film like super deluxe originally but will be quick to remake it and tag it aa theirs smh

I watched Ginny weds Sunny today and it was a really nice breezy watch :)

Story was mostly predictable, especially the climax but I liked the simple formula to the movie.....likeable characters with some cute quirks, some heartfelt moments, good songs.....good supporting cast (especially the parents😆) ....winning formula IMO.

Massey did good and Yami was really good too.....I liked that her character wasn't the typical confused girl also....like she had her moments where you could see why she was the way she was and how she grows to like Sunny. Their convos were nice :)

The shaadi climax was a little half baked but the rest of the film was nice enough that I can overlook that😆

Lol they hyped Akshay playing transgender so much agar woh dekhna hai toh koi vijay sethypethi in super deluxe dekho what a beautiful beautiful portrayal of a trans person who also has a son and how the son deals with woth his father when he comes back after years as a woman endearing heart reading and so so so sensitive. Super deluxe has to be one of the finest tamil films in last 5 years and no wonder everybody got so wowwww it's amazing i highly highly highly recommend it wsp for shilpa(the trangender) and ra kitty the kid story . All the questions he ask it's omg it makes you feel for both of them and how proud the kid was and not at all.judgemental he was like ab aisa hai toh hai mera dad also sethupethy is like phenomenal and it takes guts to take it as non comedy. Bohat hi zabardast film hai super deleuxe it has different story all interlinked and dark humor 😆 and on Netflix. Like one of the masterpieces it's just not.possible to get it by the trailer caz the film.has so much in it . This and assurance along with kumbalungi nights were my most highly rated films last year and they all deserved it esp the shilpa and rassukuty story on this one lol I remember ranveer also mentioning this rassukutty kid in that roundtable and that kiddo got so hyper and happy that ranveer was a fan🤣 such a cute kiddo and vijay being do impressed with that child artist and saying how his performance came out so great caz of this kiddo

Oh I watched Super Deluxe last year, but thanks for the rec. I only watched the Vijay Sethupati story - the rest didn't connect with me. But this story - especially the kid was outstanding.....very hard hitting story and the portrayal of the transgender father was very poignantly done.....amazing performance from Vijay Sethupati too.

South movies are a hit or miss...especially these anthologies....mixed results - some of them are absolutely blahh while some of them are surprising gems.

I guess this was the turning point for Ginny and Sunny in the movie....I liked how frankly they talked in this bit....you can see how she's opening up to him gradually even as she cautions him that he has no chance with her....lol.....I liked that gradual depiction of a growing comfort level

Oh yeah I loved it for the same reasons I really liked how their bonding had an genuineness to it it wasn't just it is happening caz it has to happen wih mechanical feel nahi thi ke ab time for bonding ab time for breakup even though one could tell when it was coming still it didn't felt like boxes checked. I toh liked yami as ginny I liked how she was confident working woman without going overboard but apparently some people thought she had no mind and was rather a bad depiction and am like mujhe toh kuch kharab nahi laga tha uske saath I enjoyed it.

The parents really helped lift it up on both sides they were so funny yet they understood their kids and that was the nice part they were open to them experiencing their life even if they wanted sunny to do shaadi and trying hard for it their was still this very sweet comfort level an easy going vibe that I enjoyed same with ginny and her mother.

That felt rushed and we never find out whether resturant khula ke nahi😆 still as you said I can overlook it caz I enjoyed the film otherwise as a whole. Mujhe toh boring nahi lagi idk why are people saying that. Maybe just caz it doesn't have the forced sex and hawtness even though they kinda touch it in that Mika song😆 but that's also integrated i to the story

Raskutty was the actual star of this film hands down that kid was just so amazing ek toh actor acha tha uppar se his character was just so so endearing he was a smart child and so understanding and open to such a bizzare idea and it was so nice to see that he wasn't judgemental he just wanted his dad chahe jaise bhi and the scene where they think he left again and raskutry gets mad awwq🤗🤗

Oh I know I didn't connected as such to ramya wali story esp her ex husband being the priest of whatever I enjoyed Sam fahadh and vijay 's story caz it was a new idea

With south films I know what you mean by hit and miss not all of them are good bur still the good to bad ratio is very high esp in last 5 years or so they have evolved so majorly and now they are bringing it to world stage with all the ott and it feels so good to see that caz they really deserve the recognition their talents are much much much ahead of bollywood and I just like that if they make the typical masala genre in abundance they are now experimenting more and more and the mass actors are experimenting more too now.
