I am still reading The Color Purple. It's been a busy month. 🤔 I am not sure when I will be able to finish but I will surely post my thoughts.

@Diya: Glad you loved it! From whatever I have read so far, I agree. It takes a bit of time to adjust with the language but once you get used to it, it keeps you immersed.

@Anam: You picked one of my all time favourites! The Shining! I have been meaning to reread this book to get to it's sequel. I guess, I might do a reread along with you all. Can't wait to discuss it.. 😃

I hope you finish it soon. I'd love to hear what you thought of the whole story.

Sorry for being so late with the review. I did read the color purple but not which the pace I normally do. I kind of wheezed through it due to time crunch. I am definitely going to reread it once more later. Moving on, this book was impactful. The female characters were very well written. They were all strong and resilient especially Sophie. She is my most favorite character. Her "not giving f" attitude made me LOL many times. She giving her husband black eye was the best scene 😂. But all the male characters were somewhat weak. I do understand that it was to make female characters shine more. By the way I am appalled how in those times fidelity was not a concern. My Indian SANSKAR. Rofl

I am also planning to watch this movie. The trailer seemed cool.

I give these strong women and their story 4🌟

Sorry for being MIA.

My review for The Color Purple

I liked the book and I probably would have liked it better if I wasn’t going through a reading slump. Some days I had to push myself to read a few pages. When you don’t really feel like reading, however amazing the book is you don’t really appreciate and enjoy it all that much especially if the genre of the book is out of your comfort zone.

The female characters were well fleshed out and had well defined character graphs; the situations they underwent made their transformation to what they were at the end of the book believable. Even though the book was short and didn’t have lengthy chapters, it managed to pack in a lot and credit to the author for that.

A lot of themes explored in the book were not easy to read but the author managed to cover them all without making it uncomfortable for the reader.
I agree with Shanam when she says the male characters were one dimensional. This was a book that was a showcase for the female characters and their different personalities. I really liked the theme of sisterhood explored in this book despite their differing personalities.

This book was between a 3.5 - 4 star read for me.
Even I plan to watch the movie sometime soon, till the book is still fresh in my mind.

Has anyone here read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness as a graphic novel?

Started reading The Shining today. Progress will be slow since I’m reading a couple of other books side by side as well.

I have read it. One of my all time favourites! 💔 It's very heartbreaking tho I listened to it. The audiobook was spectacular but the illustrations does enhance the experience, I think.

I have heard a lot of praise about it so I thought I’d start reading it but I started The Shining instead. Once I finish The Shining I shall read A Monster Calls.

It’s become really quiet over here. Hope all of you are doing well.

Ok, so question for the day -

Do you girls read books in any languages other than English?
