I actually like the way the writers have flipped the character arcs for Shravan and Suman. Usually it's the male lead is messed up, fragmented and displays bi-polar characteristics. Whereas the female lead is the one who has been wronged, who has something to prove and turned bitter but has emotional stability.

Suman's emotional stability is in tatters. She is swinging like a ping pong between herself and kudos to the team for being able to show that in way that it makes sense. I think some people are pissed off with her words but i don't think they quite understand the reason behind her behaviour.

It is absolutely clear that while Shravan stands. He is bitter, doesn't want to think about her or hear about her. Between the two of them, he has emerged as the emotionally stronger one which by the way he always was. Suman on the other hand has held on to him and all of his mementos. She's curious about him, wants to know him but at the same time cannot allow herself to show that. I don't think it's even about ego but more that something has happened to make her think people are better off without her in their lives or that anyone who comes close to her will be disappointed in some way. it's likely why she keeps her family at an arms length too although that may have different reasons as well. In fact they may be part of the reason why she feels this way but the main reason are definetly her father and Shravan. Whether she's acknowledged it or not, she feels like she's let down both of the most important men in her life. That she failed them. Add to that the valid bitterness from his side, she doesn't want him to know how she feels about him. Doesn't want him to know that he still effects her and that he still has the most important place in her life. She wants him to feel that she doesn't care about him, that he's irrelevant to her. She's also reacting to him which is typical of their characters if you keep their past in mind.

Also, i think with the case, it isn't that she wants to see Devraj proven guilty but for the truth to prevail, whatever it may be. She's following the evidence, which honestly anyone would do. It's hard not to believe something when the whole world is saying it. And for anyone to say that she should believe in Shravan's faith, it really doesn't work that way. I think it's logical to assume that he's never going to want to believe the worst about his father because he's his father. There actually is no proof to prove that Devraj didn't do it.

Honestly, under the circumstances, i don't see how they could have remained together. It's seperation from Suman that's made Shravan as successful as he is today. Be it her love, bitterness or the want to prove something to her or the world, it gave his life the kind of direction and passion he needed. As horrible as it is, it's the tragedies that really shape and transform us in to stronger and better versions of ourselves if we survive them. The change they needed to go through to actually work could have only happened with such a seperation.

Their love was pure and innocent but also naive and far too great for them. They had to grow to understand the depth and intensity of it. It's how it is in life. Unless you understand the depth of your feelings for someone, truly appreciate it, you're never going to know what you really have. The kind of love they are shown to have is very special and rare. It needs to be set on fire to truly shine.

Also for the people who say that they understand Suman's lost her parents but it doesn't excuse her attitude. Yes it doesn't but i don't think everyone really understand the extent to which losing your loved one can mess you up. Especially if you somewhere hold yourself responsible for it. Personally, i realize the extent it can mess you up. Your world literally shakes and breaks and becomes fragmented. It's impossible to see the bigger picture and half of the time you don't even realize how you've changed or what you're doing wrong. And when you have no real support it just makes it worse. So no offence but Shravan's pain cannot be compared with Suman's. Being hurt in love and a teenage level of love compared to losing both of your parents and holding on to that guilt is something else entirely.

Unless Shravan never tried reach out to her again after that one day, you can't even fully blame Suman for it. I'll get to that in a different post because i've already typed an essay here lolz/

Brilliant. 👏 You spoke the words in my heart. I agree with each and every word. I think maybe only the people that have lost loved ones in untimely or unexpected ways can truly relate. People can feel survivor's guilt even generally if they haven't done anything wrong. But here Suman has this clear sequence of events that she feels at fault for and her entire relationship with Shravan is mixed up with it. If she is punishing anyone, it is herself. I have to admit I am really enjoying ITV for once giving this depth and complexity. This is not an easy issue to resolve.

You said it all! Everything I've thought and analyzed about the show and this leap.

Shravan's character shows that men can be the more emotionally stable and sensitive one in a relationship. That the female lead doesn't always take on the responsibility to hold everything together with the thin thread of her immortal love. For once we're not forced to pity the female lead just because the male lead is acting cruel and wallowing in a bitter past. It's a great change to the popular 'angry young men' shows and makes the audience reconsider their perspective about the classic gender dynamics in a relationship.

(Hi btw, it's my first time writing in this show's forum, though I've been a silent reader for a few months).

Hey there. Lol i'm pretty much a silent visitor too. I kind of explode on the scene when i like something and then just evaporate when i lose interest. The forum will likely see posts from me for the next few days until it really hits me how much time i'm wasting analyzing fictional characters when i have my civil exam in a few months. #Lordhelpme.

But thank you for taking out the time to comment. This is one of the nicer forums and everyone here is respectful and kind and intuitive.

(Makes sense considering the typical audience likely doesn't watch this gem)

(you can also probably telll i'm a rambler by now. *Shootsself)

Heyyy! Yea the leap and episodes after it have got me really hooked, but once things start rolling with normal drama I'll probably stop reading every opinion and post on the forum. I just love reading different analysis and perspectives on such complex characters and circumstances. These stories make us dig deeper into our beliefs, values and outlook on life, and personally it makes me open my mind and see a new point of view each time. I can see the maturity and thinking level of the audience on this forum is brilliant.

Good luck for your exam though #Lordwillhelp. I'm a rambler too when I'm talking haha, and it's better to write more than write less.

Yes it’s a nice idea to flip the characteristics

I think I’m spoilt by a fast pace and like these shows to have that —- tell the story well.

The loss of parents — for a girl that age is huge. The guilt makes her say things she perhaps doesn’t think About fully. Suman has also been the person who Kia quick to judge - kind but opinionated and hence sharp in her words —- and that part of her hasn’t changed. Tough times have meant these edges have gotten sharper...

Shravan I mean - has been the more tentative - thinking and considerate type even with family, but Also more the risk taker types. Living life to the fullest — he confesses to her but after giving it some thought — he does feel for his mom. More sensitive in a way and gets the shades of grey - so after a big trauma, this turns him into a thrill seeker . That is also relateable .

Frankly I think Kanika is still evolving into the new Sumo while Mohit has made the transition look easy, Mohit really has been a surprise in the range of his acting abilities — looking forward to the snappy pace and for the story to progress !!
