PART 168

The room fell into a bout of silence, some in recognition and the others in absolute fear. Who was this new entity that had come their way? And why did they want to see the end of them all?

Urmila looked around to see if the others faces seemed to carry any sign of recognition, but they were as clueless as hers.

“Who, who is Snigdha?”

Ram and Shatrughan looked at each other in silent gazes. What Shatrughan had sensed and feared was coming true, word for word.

“Bhaiyya, should I…”

Ram nodded looking away, as Shatrughan turned to everyone and took a deep breath.

“Theres, something I should have told you all earlier.”

And slowly, with each word narrated word of his, he could see the colour in their faces drain. Some looked at him in shock, and he could even sense bouts of anger.

“But I.. I never wanted it to happen this way.. it is my fault..I..” His voice broke as Ram rushed ahead to console him.

All of them gripped onto their hearts and each others harder than ever before. Maanvis eyes rushed between Bharat and Siya, only to see Siya quietly sitting, devoid of any emotion.

“Di?” She called out.

Siya looked up slowly as all eyes turned towards her.

“It was bound to Come back to us, some way or the other. We’ve been a part of something we’ve tried so hard to fight against,” she calmly said.

“But dont worry, we will fix what can, and give her the justice she needs.”

Siya walked away as Shatrughan went rushing to her.

“Bhabi, I am so sorry Bhabi. I dont know what came over me, I am so sorry..”

She braved a little smile, placing a hand on his cheek.

“We will fix it Shatrughan, very soon.”

She walked to Maanvi holding her by the hand and taking her upstairs. In the sheer suddenness of the news, they had lost the joy of being in the moment of such a beautiful news. But Siya would make sure, that she would have every ounce, if not more of the love and attention she had received.

—————————————

“Take care dear, and let any of us know if you need anything. Dont take stress on yourself.”

Siya made Maanvi sit on her bed, running a calm hand over her head.

“Di, you.. “ Maanvi hitched at her words. “You should be the one taking rest now. We should be taking care of you but, look at me, sitting here, lost.”

“We’re not lost Maanvi,” she broke in. “If you allow your thoughts to flow in this way, you will never be able to emerge out of what they say.”

“I will make sure no one even dares to touch our name, even if it means giving up all that I have.”

Maanvi tried to gauge the meaning behind her words, which seemed to hang in the air without a destined path.

“Di, what do you mean?”

Siya looked away, smiling.

“Nothing dear. Go to sleep. And take care of yourself. Im sure Bharat will never leave your side and take care of you better than anyone else. Congratulations, take care.”

Maanvi tried to call out to her again, but Siya had already left. Sleep had no hold over her eyes, and the thumping in her heart only grew louder.

—————————————

Ram entered the room quietly, so as not disturb Siya in her sleep. If there was one thing she needed at this stage of the pregnancy, it was rest, and it pained him to think, that he could not give her even that.

Keeping his watch away,Ram rubbed his eyes and tried to look over at Siyas face in the dark. It was still radiant, still hopeful. She shone like the only beam of positive, as if she has already solved everything through.

His stomach let out a rumble, bringing Ram back to his senses. He stood up to walk over, when a soft voice called to him.

“You haven’t eaten properly, haven’t you?”

Startled, he turned to see her sit up and turn the lamps on.

“You didnt sleep Siya?”

“No I just..” She fumbled for words. “Ill fall asleep soon.”

And when the light fell on her eyes, he realised that there was so much more than to what met the eye.

His feet brought themselves down, as his head found its place on her shoulders.

“I.. I dont even know what to say Siya. I dont think Im worthy of an apology. I..I should have been more careful. Right from the beginning. Ive made you walk through so much that I..”

“Ram,” she whispered. “You did what you could. And you and your brothers did more than what I could have ever done. Its just that.. If only you’d told me about her…”

Siya could sense hitches brimming up in Rams voice, as his darted everywhere else but at her.

“I should have never hid anything from you Siya, I knew I wasn’t doing the right thing but.. I never thought it would all come this way.”

“We.. We will have to pay for our deeds someway or the other, isn’t it? Its something we’ve learnt along the way Ram.”

Slowly placing a hand under his cheek, Siya matched her glassy eyes with his.

“Where are the others?” She asked trying to take his mind away.

“Ive sent all the girls to their rooms, I think Urmila and Shruti are helping Maanvi with something. They wanted to come here, but they saw you sleeping so.. “

“Its okay, and where are Lakshman and the others?”

“Theyre still down, with Pawan. We’ve found his residence, we’re planning to arrange to have Naveen atleast sent back first.”

“Ram, Im not sure any of you have eaten. Please, take the girls with you also, and eat something.”

“But you didn’t eat properly either..”

“No, I ate enough. Im feeling full,” she said. “Please, go and eat.”

“But Im fine..”

“Ram,” she said with a smile. “Please, dont be stubborn. Ill rest till then, and once you eat, make sure Pawan stays back. Take rest now, we can’t do anything in the middle of the night. Let the day begin ,and we can think again.”

He placed a small kiss on her head, lingering on to her warmth for as long as he could.

As she sent him for dinner, Siya settled down. A race in her mind and one against time had started. If what she was expecting was to happen the next morning, she didn’t have much time in had.

Drawing out her phone, Siya made a call.

“Hello?” A deep voice spoke on the other side.

“Hello Sir, its me, Siya. Remember me?”

—————————————————

Lakshman’s hand trembled in anger as he kept looking out of the window, in search of the one nameplate that had brought a ruckus over them once again.

“Lakshman, you haven’t slept since yesterday. Please, calm down,” Urmila said from his side.

“No Mila,” he groaned. “I understand what Shatrughan did to her was wrong, but this is no way to get back! Doesn’t he know all of us have already been through enough!”

Before she could begin, the driver stopped behind the other cars ahead and watched them all get down.

“Please dont get too angry on him, he is an elder after all.”

“I can’t promise anything Mila,” he said as he pushed open the door.

———————————————

“Sir, why did you do this?”

Ram asked with all the respect that he could, but found an inevitable coldness creeping in when Siyas face flashed along side his.

Santosh Verma sat opposite him on a broken sofa, wearing mended clothes and carrying nothing about him that could speak that such a man could manage to bail out a criminal put into jail by the biggest names in the country. And yet, he had, and seemed to carry no remorse.

“Im surprised youre asking why, you should already know.” He coldly replied.

Lakshman took a step ahead, gauging the tension in the room.

“My brother is asking you something very nicely sir. I wont. Why did you bail those bloody criminals out?!”

“Dont you dare raise your voice in my house!”

The room fell silent at his sheer behaviour. He was elder to them, and seeing a man this way distorted their understand of man and motive.

“Where were you when your brother pushed my daughter out without listening to her?!” He said. “Where were you when my daughter couldn’t step out of her house because she was called characterless? Where were you when my hard working daughter sat at home without work, crying herself to sleep? And where were you when she tried to kill herself?!”

Siya gulped as with each passing word of his she felt a deeper and deeper pang in her Heart. Looking around, everyones face had turned blue in a weird mix of emotions, and no one had words to respond with.

“My daughter is battling with depression now in a rehab centre, have you bothered to check up on that?” He continued. “She was recovering, but then, you all came back, and your name was all over again. She got so upset that, I have to keep her there now, for what the doctors say another 3 months.”

“But do you know what that means?! No, because you simply spoke, without thinking what it would mean to a simple girl like her. She’s lost her mother, and I brought her up very simply. Whatever she had achieved was all on her own, with loans and insults. Yet, she stood with her head strong. But when Naveen pulled her down, she lost even that. Both you and I know she is innocent, but will anyone bother to accept the now? Will anything change?”

The man paused for a breath, tears of anger brimming up in his eyes.

“When I heard what Naveen did and why you had put him in, it made me laugh,” he smirked. “You can go to the end of the world to save the women you care for, and not bother to even spare a second glance to another? I know your intentions were not wrong, but I could not take it anymore. And so I thought, if you dont have any punishment, and if the woman has to suffer anyway, why should it be my daughter alone, or thousands like mine? And so, I let him out. With whatever money I had left, I let him out. Because to me, letting him out is a way of making you realise that your actions are not your consequences alone sir, they have set an example for others to suffer too.”

PART 169

The ride home was silent, devastating almost. All kinds of questions ran around in their minds, and they knew deep down they had answers to them all, but to what extent those answers were true, was a question.

"Are up Okay, Siya?" was all that Ram had managed to mouth, and she had replied with an equal nod.

They walked in slowly, tired as soon as the day had started, a burden on them mentally.

"Did you talk with him?" Kraanti asked, in the hope that maybe they could convince the man of his deeds and somehow convince him to repeal the bail.

She waited, only to see Ram sit down on the sofa, his eyes red in a desperate attempt to fight back an influx of tears.

Kraanti slowly walked ahead, making Siya and Maanvi sit whilst Sumitra brought them water. No words were exchanged, everyone still registering what had just happened. For whatever reason it had been, they had never seen the extent of what the world thought about them to their face. But now it seemed, as if a hurricane had knocked the winds out fo them without a warning and all shelter had been displaced.

“But, Naveen cannot join the company now, right?” Shruti managed to speak up in the silence.

“No, he can’t but, thats not the point,” Lakshman sighed. “This should have never come this far. We shouldn’t be sitting here in the first place.”

Ram wiped his face quickly, standing up as his words ended.

“We can’t undo what has happened, so I suggest it would be better if we think about what steps we can take next. Maa, you two take rest please, and take Siya and Maanvi with you. We will sort it out, dont worry.”

“But Bhaiyya we are fine..” Maanvi spoke up.

“I know dear, but its the least we can do for you at this point. Please, go take rest dear.” He cast a small glance at Siya, who smiled in reply, as the two walked away.

———————

“But Beta, are you sure you want me to do this?”

“Yes Sir, I am sure,” Siya said, her eyes looking out of her window at the drops of rain splashing against the glass. “And I will be forever grateful to you for this.”

“Dont think of it that way, dear,” the deep-voiced man said from the other side. “I was looking for such a place too for the orphanage. It’ll be a very good idea. But Siya, this whole idea of this anonymous purchase..”

“I know Sir, it sounds very wrong but, I can assure you, it will all take place smoothly. I will take care of that.”

“Ofcourse dear.. Take care now, I will call you later.”

Siya cut the call, staring blankly at the phone screen. What she was planning, would be devastating, and she knew it the best.

But for the peace of the family, she saw no other way .

“Hey.”

She kept her phone away, as Ram came and sat next to her.

He had aged in a day, it seemed, but he was braving a smile, trying to show that nothing would ever Get to her or his child as long as he stood in between, even it it meant fighting with fate.

“Lakshman is trying to track Naveen down, but seems like he’s locked himself away somewhere. He can’t go out of the city, so that makes our job a little simpler, it anything.”

“Well, what will you even do if you find him, Ram?”

Ram looked up at her, gulping and doing nothing but holding her hand tightly.

“I.. I dont know Siya. I just know that Ill make him say out loud that what he did and said was wrong, so that no one dares to lay a finger on any of us ever again.”

“I get what youre saying Ram,” she replied softly. “But you and I both now, its not only him.. its a lot more.. AHH!”

Ram jerked in shock, as Siyas face scrunched up in pain.

“What happened SIya? Are you okay?!”

Siya took a deep breath, and looked up at him with bright eyes.

“I felt a kick.”

Rams heart thumped as Siya took his hand and placed it over her stomach, when they felt a kick again.

“Oh my god,” Ram whispered, “Siya…”.

He turned away, closing his eyes as a tear fell across his cheek.

“Ram, Its okay..”

“Siya,” his voice broke. “This was not how I had seen everything. I had planned to make a small nursery, decorate it with my own hands, take a break from all work and be with you the whole day but, look at what youre having to go through.”

“But its not your fault Ram,” she soothed. “People will understand, it will take time. And we need to give them the time. Please Ram, you can’t break down like this.”

“I know Siya, but..”

His words were broken off with a knock on the door. Siya wiped his cheeks as Ram opened the door to find Shatrughan stranding.

“Sorry to disturb you Bhaiyya, but its that broker from UK again, about that Greenlands plot.”

Ram nodded, smiling at Siya as he walked out.

————————

“No that is fine, but we need the mans identity right?” Ram rubbed his forehead.

“Yes Sir, but he is adamant in buying it with his NGOs name. Says he can’t disclose his name on any papers.”

“Yes but, what if he’s just a fraud. Ive never seen such a transaction before.”

“No Sir, that I can verify, he’s a genuine buyer. His NGO has a good name around London and other parts of Europe. Now all we have to do is get a confirmation from your side, and Ill make sure we have the safest transaction possible.”

“Oh ok… I will let you know by tomorrow.”

———————————

“Any problem Ram?”

“Uh, no, not as such. Actually, you know about the place we stayed in London right? We are planning to sell that in exchange for a bigger plot near our office, because some clients said they wanted to use it as a part time guest house as well, other than us staying there when we go.”

“Oh,” She said. “Thats not a bad idea. Although I really liked the place.”

“Yeah, me too. We didn’t need to sell it this quick actually, but suddenly weve found a buyer who seems adamant on the purchase as soon as possible, but he’s not willing to reveal who he actually is and is only talking through his NGO. And surprisingly, we have no information of him from there as well.”

“Oh, thats a bit odd. What is he planning to do with it? “

“He said he wants to make it into an orphanage. It sounds like a very good cause so, I dont want to delay it, but..”

“I dont think you should, Ram. After all, if he’s promising such a large amount of money in a short while, his case must be genuine.”

Ram nodded.

“Yeah, youre right Siya. I wish I could see it again before we sold it though, but I have a principle that I never visit places that are no longer ours. It makes me feel very, odd. But never mind, Im happy it will atleast be used for a good cause.”

“Right.” Siya dimmed the lights as she held tightly onto him, waiting for the night to pass.

————————

“Morning Bhaiyya,” Lakshman whispered as he walked off on another call. Siya sat for breakfast with Ram, and turned to Urmila.

“I hope the two of you are taking rest Mila, Im sorry I can’t look after you two like I do.”

“Di, why are you saying sorry? It should be us who should be looking after you but… I did catch up on some sleep Di, but he’s, just been restless. I made him sleep for a while but he got up and started making calls again. I pushed him breakfast, else he wasn’t even ready to come. He wont stop DI, until and unless he finds Naveen.”

Siya looked at Lakshman, his eyes dark, but she knew that no matter who’d try to talk him out of this, he wouldn’t stop. It was eating him away inside, and they could only wait and watch.

“But why should I turn on the TV, thats not the point.. no you listen to me… Okay fine, wait..”

All of them turned To Lakshman, who picked the remote and started the news, only to be met with a wild shock.

A reporter stood in front a building, carrying a mic and holding it upto the very familiar face of, Naveen.

“So youre the “Naveen”, who’s been bailed out even after been caught guilty against a case of abuse against the Suryavanshis?”

“Yes, its me.”

“And I believe you’d called up our headquarters today, stating that you have a very important statement to give?”

“Yes, I did. I know the Suryvanshis are behind me, and maybe they’ll find me soon, so I dont know if I will live to tell what I have to say. So I need to say it as fast as I can.”

“What do you have to say about the Suryavanshis that is so controversial that you feel your life is in danger?”

“I want to say everything that I know. And I want to say that, they are not as clean as they seem…”

“WHAT rubbish is he saying?!” Lakshman yelled out as Ram placed a hand on his shoulder.

“They have a very clean image,” Naveen continued. “That they’ve never been involved in any scandals or that all of their family is too pure for this world. But the truth is that, all this is a sham. Ive worked inside, I know how its all painted. Tell me, if theyd never done anything wrong, why did half their family disappear for 5 years? And how is it that only they came to know about Raghavan and managed to fight against him , despite them being the so called’ simple citizens’ they claim to be? Ofcourse they must’ve had some connections with him, which were broken and because of they made up all that drama of ‘redeeming the truth’ and what not. When the police couldn’t do anything against Raghavan, how did they manage?”

“And coming to the whole kidnapping story, tell me, if Raghavan had really done something like that, would he have left that Siya Suryavanshi alive? Ofcourse not, he would have done worse things to her, and probably has.”

With each passing word of his, the blood of the house boiled, and it felt like a sharp arrow twisted and turned in the pits of their stomach, causing unbearable pain to bot take out or keep.

“Yes I did say some things to that woman a while ago, but I just said what the whole nation thinks of them. Everyone knows how they have kicked thousands of innocent people out, just because they didnt fit their bill or suit their story. But I am not the one to keep quiet; they can’t fool innocent people into fake sympathy for them. I suggest that we drag each of them out and demand answers, what really happened to Raghavan? What happened with their wives? Where did they get the money for all this from… we need to get the answers…. “

The interview continued but the words seemed to drain away, to a further off distance.

Lakshman cut the call, and the sound of his phone splittering into pieces came seconds later.

“Bhaiyya I will not spare him!! How dare he.. how can he, and on National Television… I am going to track him down bhaiya and I will kill him, I dont care if I go to jail or not..”

Lakshman tried to storm out of the room, when Bharat caught hold of him.

“Wait Laksh! This will not solve anything, we can’t waste any more time on him . He’s already spread too much, he’s trying to brainwash people against us, I think its high time we go out and face whatever questions the media has for us Bhaiyya. It will be difficult for us bhaiyya, I know, but we can’t keep let him get to us like this.”

Rams heart threatened to come out his mouth, and he could only glance at Siya for a moment of recluse.

‘You need to do this,’ she seemed to say through her eyes.

It was the moment Ram dreaded, a moment he knew would scar all of them forever. But he couldnt let this go on, not anymore.

Everything had to be said, once and for all. And what ever would happen after that, he would have to accept with no where to go.
