I have another book suggestion

Ella Minnow Pea. Anyone heard of it?

Ella Minnow Pea is a girl living happily on the fictional island of Nollop off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop was named after Nevin Nollop, author of the immortal pangram,* "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." Now Ella finds herself acting to save her friends, family, and fellow citizens from the encroaching totalitarianism of the island's Council, which has banned the use of certain letters of the alphabet as they fall from a memorial statue of Nevin Nollop. As the letters progressively drop from the statue they also disappear from the novel. The result is both a hilarious and moving story of one girl's fight for freedom of expression, as well as a linguistic tour de force sure to delight word lovers everywhere.

Thanks for posting Hinna! Was thinking to suggest it here!🤗

Did you read it?

Has anyone read it? It's truly a masterpiece that was accidentally suggested to me on Tumblr!❤️ Only 150 pages long.

P.S Just rummaged through the last pages and I guess I missed out on the August BTM.

@Unique.Sheep: Never heard of this book. Thanks for introducing this book to me. Will either try to read it or include it at some point in the book club along with another book since it’s so short.

@Bucky: Oh, I was wondering where you went. It’s okay, read September’s pick if you like the choice.

Sorry girls, my internet was down.

Let’s start.
I’ll start with my opinions on the characters of Kya, Tate and Chase.

I liked Kya as a character. She was resilient despite being abandoned time and again by the people she loved and trusted. I’ll mention more about her when we come to the discussing the story.

I understood Tate’s position and his regret as well when he left Kya. He was written as an ideal good boy character in contrast to the character of Chase. At some level I think Chase did like/love Kya but he was a spoilt brat used to getting his way and he couldn’t come to terms with the fact that Kya didn’t want him in her life after she realised his intentions when it came to her.

Overall, I'll give this novel a 3.5 stars.

Speaking of the characters, I liked Kya's character as well as I like all grey characters.

Tate was however shown as good, almost too good to be true, except for the one time he abandoned Kya without telling her anything. If not for that one time, he'd be a character I won't like much but it gave him a realistic touch.

Chase somehow became the character that I didn't care much about. I probably will not remember him well after some time. He was the typical spoilt-brat who is used to getting everything he wants and not having to think about anything beyond his own self, as we see from the beginning of his interactions with Kya.

I went into reading this book with no real expectations. Historical fiction is not a genre I have read much of. I sort of have a mental block when it comes to genres like historical fiction, fantasy and mythology. It just doesn’t seem the stuff I’d enjoy. The writing style was also something I was not too kicked about. I am used to reading fast paced thrillers which don’t have detailed descriptions.
When I read the first 60-70 pages I liked it but I wasn’t sure I’d be able to read the entire book with such detailed descriptions. The descriptive beginning was necessary to get a feel of the time and place where the book is set.

When it comes to the writing of this book, one thing that I wasn’t a big fan of were the poems. I’m not someone who can understand or appreciate poetry so I feel like I missed out on that bit when it comes to fully appreciating the book.
