River rescue

Sajal and Nidhi's house was this beautiful Georgian brick construction in Rocky River OH

His flight landed late so when he got to their place it was almost 1 AM

"Hamey laga tu cancel kar dega" Sajal hugged him

"Nidhi so gayi?"

"Haan kumbhakaran hai usually, now she has an excuse" he whispered

The men talked about work and life in Chicago as sajal heated up food

They sat down to play Mario Kart on Switch at 3 AM

"Neend nahi aa rahi tujhe?" Tapan questioned

"Aa to rahi hai"

"Chal jaake sotey hain"

"haha"

"well that sounded wrong" Tapan grinned

He was led to his room

"How many rooms?"

"4 bedrooms, one will become a study eventually" he whispered

The doors of the room next to him was shut

He went to bed and crashed

Didnt even take his socks off like he usually liked to

He woke up at 11 AM the next morning as it rained, OH no stranger to troublesome weather, Spring and Fall were long drawn out and wet

Nidhi knocked on his door when she heard him move around

"Sajal ne breakfast banaya hai" she smiled

He got up to give her a hug

"Nice house"

"And u are taller"

"U have shrunk since the wedding" he laughed

"Cud have.. I begged Sajal for a baby so much I must have"

He stepped out after a shower... and changing into grey sweats and a pink tee

"U shud urge Sajal to wear pink" she mumbled as they stepped out

In the kitchen, Sajal was bent over the dining table as he served someone

"Is family here?" he asked curiously

Sajal moved toward the stove Tapan froze

Shubhra almost spit out her coffee standing up nervously wearing a midriff baring tee in which a giraffe craned its neck from the back of the tee

And orange sweats... that seemed very high end with some pattern along the left side

He knew she hated wearing logos up front

"I thought you knew" Sajal said carelessly

"From WHO" Tapan was flustered as he approached the table

"I am fine to leave if its awkward for him" Shubhra spoke softly

"Pagal ho?" Nidhi was angry

"Kiska plan tha yeh?" Tapan looked at the young couple

"KISI ka nahi dude..." Nidhi shrugged casually

"When did u get here?" Tapan asked Shubhra

Approaching her

she reached tentatively for a hug

He greeted her

"Hey, good to see u"

"Yeah" she nodded

stepping back quickly

"Did u get here last nite?" Shubhra asked

"Hmm... 1 baje.. aur tum?"

Sajal and Nidhi had disappeared

"Kal subah"

"Kyon aayi?" he demanded

"I dont know" she whispered honestly

"How are u?" he asked again

"Good" she mumbled

"Wow that good huh?"

"Matlab?"

"Kuch nahi" he served himself and sat down to eat

"He made chai too" she insisted as he poured coffee

"Kidhar hain dono?" he looked around

Sajal returned with a fluffy puppy

"Biwi baarish mein jaane nahi deti, some dude got mugged one Sunday morning a month ago when it was raining" he laughed "I have a dog walker for when it rains"

"Whats the name?" Tapan picked him up

"River" Nidhi smiled "He was a shelter/rescue"

"Nice name"

He played with the dog for a bit

"I am sorry for not telling u he was coming" Nidhi whispered to Shubhra

"Its fine... we are adults we can be civil"

"To aaj kya plan hai?" Sajal sat down to eat

"I am going crib shopping with Shubhraaa" Nidhi shouted

"Thank God"

"Umm... Shubhra has to go with me to buy something for Didi" Tapan interrupted "I just asked her to" he promised silkily

Shubhra looked at him in shock

Nidhi: "sahi hai yaar... we leave u alone for 10 minutes u guys make private plans"

"Jaane de na,I will go pick up ur car, tu shopping kar le tab taq u we can meet for lunch" Sajal offered

Nidhi and him argued over it chasing each other thru the house

"U dont care about the baby"

"I want u to go with me"

The usual 1%er wealthy expectant parents arguments

Shubhra walked over to him and hissed

"She told you!!!"

she whispered

"whatt" he pretended not to know

"Parul told u I umm.. I.. Parul told u" Shubhra refused to articulate her jealousy of expectant mothers

"I dont know what u mean" he lied glibly "I need to buy something for her, help me pick something" he said softly

"she broke my trust" Shubhra was unhappy

"Wont be the first thing to break" he whispered under his breath
