‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ review: Earthbound despite dreams of flight

Sharan Sharma’s polite, placid film stars Janhvi Kapoor as Gunjan Saxena, air force helicopter pilot and hero in the Kargil War
Kapoor gives a quiet, unassuming performance. There’s a softness to it that skirts military clichés, but not enough steel when the film calls it. Variation is a problem as well—there isn't much that separates Kapoor’s disappointed face from her angry face from her game face. Her big outburst, when it finally comes, gives the impression of lines learnt and carefully delivered and not someone driven to desperate, career-threatening anger. There’s not much Bedi or Vineet Singh can do to make their one-note sexist characters interesting. It falls to Tripathi to elevate the film, which he does with gentleness and humour. It’s an atypical portrait of a former army man: mild-mannered, loosely strung, someone who registers protest not by barking orders but by getting up from the table in the middle of a meal, saying he’d planned to eat light anyway.
🤓Well! Looks like I am not missing out on much boycotting this! But don't want to help make this thread a hit! Carry on all!

'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' Review: Justice done to story of 1st female combat pilot https://t.co/AMBRIHXXA2
Is putting a disclaimer that its a work of fiction enough? They say they dont claim authencity yet base the film on a real life hero.
How much justice will it do to the airforce and Gunjan Saxena?
Hope its not overly dramatised coz most of the times audience takes movies as a source of history n civics

The script has been written in consultation with the real Gunjan Saxena who was also present on the sets so I assume she has given a go ahead to the final film. I think she also wrote about the same on social media a few days back.

Ok.. IAF doesnt seem too saisfied though
Yeah, they are unhappy with the representation of IAF.
Just started watching it.May be its just me but the movie seems to have a very positive vibe to it.
Edit: Done watching it just now. Its a good one time watch. Looooved Pankaj and the rest of the supporting cast. Janhvi was good in parts and otherwise average. Her innocence makes her tolerable though the whole time I was watching I couldn’t help but keep on wondering what if it was a more talented actress.
