There is so much information, it’s hard to parse out which is true and false. If she was going to break her confidentiality, why a statement exclusive to barkha and that too a recorded statement? Why not come live and speak herself? Or issue a public statement, without attaching herself to any partisan media outlet?

Also, by her own statement, she met with sushant/Rhea in nov, dec 2019 and again in June 2020. And according to her the bouts of depression and hyper mania were really bad. But, by the photo posted by Swetha, sushant was planning ahead, and was relatively active on social media. He was active on twitter until dec 2019. Inactive on insta from sep 2019 to March 2020, but active late March onwards. Knowing SSR’s tweets, posts etc., they weren’t your average watch my movie posts. They were carefully thought out posts, that showed continued interaction between him and the subject matter. Going by her timeline, we can infer there Must have been prior incidents that led them to Susan. But leading up to September 2019, he was promoting chichore. So, he was severely exhibiting symptoms of BPD, yet carried on his social media or promotions? (Note, I am only questioning the BPD, not that he couldn’t have had any other illness. I myself have said many times ssr changed 2019)

Also, it alludes to his family being kept in the dark, but if truly someone was suffering that badly, &that Rhea was active participant in that ‘cover up’ And if so, was it in SSR’s best interest to keep family unaware? Because, after it seems when she left, on June 8, some people are alleging because she informed the family she was leaving, that would imply his family knew of BPD.

Hey just a correction, BPD is the shorter form of "borderline personality disorder", which is different than bipolar disorder. BPD, NPD, OCD etc are personality disorders whereas bipolar disorder is a mood disorder.

How unethical is this. If this is true the therapist needs to lose her license.

The weirdest part is that this woman claims to want to remove the stigma around mental illness but she breaches her patient's confidentiality as if that is not contributing more to stigma around mental illnesses, he's not even here to sue her for her gross misconduct.

Sushant having bipolar will come out in news no matter what once the court proceedings start. And Rhea should have enough proof of it. His psychiatrists, therapists's testimony, prescriptions, doctor visits can all corroborate her story. This won't be super hard to prove in court. Its only in court of public where it is going to be controversial. But the public verdict has already been decided so its a lost cause anyway.

While I’m no authority on the subject, I can attest to the fact that people with bipolar disorder can often function relatively normally, even if they do have periodically severe episodes and sometimes even during the episodes. In fact, I’m in medical school and one of my classmates and good friends has bipolar disorder. She’s not only able to study medicine, but also has 2 kids and is a veteran of the armed forces (she was in active duty prior to diagnosis). Particularly, I’d point to the term the doctor used “hypomania” this means that while SSR’s mental state may not have been euthymic, it would not be “elevated” enough to be considered manic, but that he was in a state slightly below that. This actually could explain why Sushant is so commonly described as someone who goes after his dreams, and why he was so busily setting up businesses, etc. while working as an actor. Someone in a hypomanic state would be more productive, have an elevated mood, and even could have a decreased need for sleep. So in those episodes, Sushant might have functioned the way he’s often described. His depressive episodes may have started later on, hence leading to the bipolar diagnosis, and they may have been fewer or shorter, as the disease is not perfectly cyclical or anything.

As far as Rhea not informing SSR’s family, he was still an adult with the ability to understand and to function. Therefore, he had the same rights to autonomy and privacy as anyone else, unless that could result in harm to him or someone else. So even if Rhea only broke that privacy when she was leaving the apartment prior to his death, she’d have been doing the right thing based on my understanding of medical ethics and confidentiality. She may have perceived him as a risk to himself and found staying a risk to her own mental/physical health, and hence contacted his sister.

In fact, those same medical ethics may have been what prompted the doctor to make her statement. Rhea is currently at the recieving end of a great deal of threats and harassment, and given that SSR is dead and she said she met them both in a clinical capacity, she may see Rhea as the surviving “patient” or a potential victim, and hence came forward. As to why she reached out to Barkha, maybe that was the best way she could get her message out there, or she tried other outlets like the police, but got no response. I mean, it’s not like there are any really non-partisan media outlets, so maybe she chose one that would give her the most leeway.

What baffles me is if indeed Sushant was suffering from a serious mental disease, why was his family , his older sisters , his father out of the picture? don’t they have any right to know ? And the lady who he had recently come into his life took all the decisions in such circumstances? Don’t the psychiatrists etc need to know his past before actually treating him? Is it allowed legally? Genuine Questions!

No family don't have the rights. Unless the person is declared mentally incapacitated to take own decisions he/she has the right to his/her own treatment. Thats the legal aspect. Also the history is taken from patient. Not from every family member. Bipolar doesn't fit the criteria of losing autonomy.

Can they do that? Break confidentiality and discuss patient cases in the public? Wtf. I would lose my job and license if I did this
