Year 2006

“Why you keep wearing these glasses always. Ever since I have come with you I have seen you very less without glasses that too for fleeting seconds.” Mini asked from Neil. They were sitting on the beach and watching the sunset. “People say eyes are the mirror of soul. I don’t like to show my vulnerabilities and fears or even other emotions to anyone.” Neil replied without looking at her. “Not even to the people you love?” Mini asked and waited for his answer but he didn’t say anything. Its been five days since he brought Mini from the bar. Mini thought he would be interested in making physical relations with her but time and over again she had been proved wrong as in these five days as he hadn’t even touched her.

Mini lived in the duplex bunglow provided by him and he kept coming there whenever he felt like, there was no fix time. Sometimes he just talks with her about random topics, sometimes he takes her for a long drive or outing like today he brought her to the beach to watch sunset with her. Sometimes he watched his favorite movies with her in the bunglow. He had asked did she know cooking. When she had replied in yes since then he always messages her before coming home to make some dish for him and they have been having their lunch and dinner mostly together now.

Its been not even a week and Mini knew him more than anyone else as she has been with him to all the places which were important to him, from where his good and bad memories were associated like his school, coffee and sandwich joint where he sat with his friends, the juvenile jail building, the place where his dad and sister died. He was weird. Normal man would take the girl they like to dinner dates and beautiful places but he always took her to the place related to his past.

First Mini was uncomfortable to go with him to such places…places which held personal importance….places what made him what he is today…..places which held so many memories….why anyone would take a stranger to such places with him? Then it dawned upon her, he wants her to know all about him….see him what he really is…but why? Mini wondered and he gave answer to her question when he removed his glasses and kept them in the pocket. He looked her without charades of glasses for the longest time. The intensity in his eyes scared her. They were screaming of his love for her.

“Come, lets go.” He said and stood up. He gave his hand to her and she held it for support. “Where are we going? Mini asked but didn’t get any answer. Soon his car stopped in front of a chawl. They came out of the car and Mini noticed as soon as he entered the chawl many people, children, elders surrounded him. Mini wouldn’t have believed if she hasn’t seen it with her own eyes. Ruthless don Neil Oberoi was not less than a messiah to these people. They absolutely loved him. Apparently he had been helping the poor here and had arranged for the jobs of many. Many people who worked in his gang also came from this chawl, that’s why they were so loyal to him.

Neil took Mini to his house in the chawl. “This is the most dearest place to me. Reminds me of my mom, dad and sis. Hold most beautiful memories of my childhood and the pain of losing my mom. This place has witnessed how a normal boy turned into a dangerous don. I come here when I feel extremely low or happy. I have shared everything with this place. I wanted this place to witness one more important moment of my life. “I love you Mini.” Neil said as he confessed his love to her.

For few seconds Mini was silent. She didn’t know what she should say? Did she love him? In all these days she had come to realize that Neil Oberoi was definitely much more than the don Neil. She was not afraid of him anymore. She even had good conversations with him. She liked doing things for him specially cooking. She liked his company. She missed him whenever he is not with her. Though he had bought her but he was the only man who treated her with respect she deserved. There is something in him which attracts her to him……Holy f**k!!! she do love him. “I love you too.” Mini replied when Neil was almost about to give up hope.

They looked in each other’s eyes. Mini first time saw all his emotions in his eyes….his eyes were beautiful…melancholic but beautiful….she wondered what it will be to see happiness in them. While she was busy reading his eyes he closed the distanced between their lips. He placed his lips on hers. Mini closed her eyes and responded to him ever so softly. This was the first kiss of their love and it was sans any lust. It was purest gesture between them to mark the beginning of their journey together.

Present time

Mini had got new information that Neil and Mickey had made a plan to destroy Ismail’s business by targeting his most famous casinos and gambling joints in a series of attacks on same day and same time. She passed this information to Hanuman Singh but he asked her to meet him this time. He had called her to the city mall today. After talking to him Mini hurriedly kept all the communication devices safely in their hiding place as he heard Neil’s voice outside and came out of the washroom. But in the hurry she couldn’t kept the devices properly and the corner of the polybag she used to cover devices was stuck in the lid of the flush tank.

“Jaan, kaha gum rehti ho tum pura din. Kabse dhund raha hoon tumhe. Kisi servant ko bhi nahi pata tumhare bare mein” Neil complained when he finally spotted Mini. Mickey also came there to talk something important to Neil. “I was in the kitchen. I thought I should make your favorite dish.” Mini replied. “Hmm…looks like you want something from me.” Neil laughed at her. He knew her too well. She definitely had something in her mind. Mini was embarrassed at being caught.“ Neil, I have been locked here from so many days. I want to go out. I want to go shopping in the city mall.” Mini made excuse to meet Hanuman Singh.

“No, you know time is not right. My enemies are now attacking me directly. In such situation I cant let you go anywhere. And what do you want? Just tell that Isha she will bring it for you. Put her to some work.” Neil said. “Yes Neil is right. Its not safe for you outside.” Mickey agreed with Neil. “I don’t need anything as such…I just want to go out…roam around..check out new things at the mall. I am tired of being locked up here.” Mini said making a sad face. “Jaan, you know everything….” Neil tried to make her understand but Mini used her emotional blackmail card on him. She knew he had no answer to her tears. “Its ok…I can understand…What I did to you….its not easy for you to trust me again.” Mini said and faked a sob. “Don’t say this. Its not about trust. I am genuinely worried for your safety.” Neil cupped her face. “Baby, please….let me go out for some time. I am fed up here.” Mini requested again. “Ok fine! I’ll come with you.” Neil agreed finally.

“You….no you cant come with me.” Mini was stuck in her own plan and she desperately thought of a way to came out of this mess. “Why?” Neil asked. “Because…yes..because I want to buy gift for you….a surprise gift…yes.” Mini answered. “But…..” Neil tried to argue further but Mini didn’t let him speak as she came close to him and put her head on his chest. “Our relationship has gone through so many difficulties now that everything is alright between us I want to celebrate it and thats why I want to buy a gift for you. Please baby, let me make this special for you.” Mini said innocently. And bang!!! Neil melted like a butter. “Ok jaan, but take Isha with you and Mickey will also go with you.” Neil said. “But….”Mini tried to make another excuse but this time Neil said with finality that he wont send her without Mickey and security. Mini had to agree.

City Mall

Mini was roaming from shop to shop to dodge Neil’s men and that Isha. At the last moment Mickey had to go for some urgent work and Mini was glad that he didn’t come with her instead sent some of his men. She saw lingerie shop and went inside it. She stopped all the men from entering there, “Have some shame. You cant follow me here.” “But Mickey bhai have given specific instruction to us to not let you out of sight even for once.” One of the men replied. “For God sake! I will come out of this gate only. I am just going inside the shop.” Mini argued and made them stay out of the shop only. Now only Mini and Isha went in the shop.

“Hey, that’s a pretty top. It will look good on you. Why don’t you try it?” Mini asked Isha as she made a plan to get rid of her also. “Well….it looks nice but expensive.”Isha said. “I’ll pay the bill. You can buy it if you like….but first you should try it out.” Mini suggested. “Why are you suddenly being so nice to me?” Isha asked. “Tumhare dimag mein doubt ke siwa kuch aata nahi hai kya. Just thought that it will look nice on you so suggested. Nahi lena to mat lo.” Mini shrugged. “Waise top hai toh achha…ok tum itna force kar rahi ho to try kar leti hoon.” Isha replied and went to the trial room. Mini was waiting for this chance only. She locked her door from outside and went out of the shop from its second floor exit.

Mini quickly called Hanuman and he asked her to come to the secluded area beside washroom. Mini went there and saw Hanuman was waiting for her. “What was so urgent that you had to meet me? You know how difficult it is to convince Neil to let me come out?” Mini asked. “I had to meet you to find out whether I can trust you further on this mission or not.” Hanuman said. “What???” Mini questioned. “The venue you told us last time was not correct. The information coming from you is not as frequent and accurate as it should be. The location device we gave you is not detectable anymore….what is all this?” Hanuman raised question on her loyalty towards the mission.

“That location device…one day I forgot to remove it from my clothes and it was destroyed during the cleaning. I had told you the venue which I heard in their conversation. I don’t know if it changed at the last moment. I am doing my best to convey each and every information to you risking my life…..and I cant believe you are asking such questions from me.” Mini was hurt from his behavior.

“I would have never raised finger on you if I didn’t have any proof.” Hanuman said and showed her his phone. It contained some photographs. Mini looked at them closely and gasped. It was her photos with Neil when Neil had come to her room and they had come close. There was also a short video of few seconds where Neil was kissing her and then he carried her to the bed. “How….how you get these photos….who send it to you?” Mini asked perplexed. “Leave it for a while now, first you tell me what is this? Are you with Neil Oberoi now?” Hanuman asked clearly.

“How can you say that?” Mini was disheartened by his allegations. “Why not? He was your boyfriend after all…you lived with him for years….was even pregnant with his child…so its possible that your long forgotten love resurfaced and you changed sides.” Hanuman Singh stated his doubt. “Don’t forget you came to me….you convinced me for this mission, I was not interested in it as there was nothing in it for me except pain. I thought apart from this mission a relation has developed between us….I started seeing you as fatherly figure…but you are a policeman after all. See, if you don’t trust me then you should immediately call off this mission because I am not going to justify any of my act. Only I know what kind of emotional trauma I have gone through just for this mission of yours. And if I remember correctly you were the one who told me, Mini agar exact information chahiye toh Neil ke kareeb jao.” Mini said.

“Neil ke kareeb jaane ke liye bola tha uske bistar mein jane ke liye.” Mini turned around when she heard a familiar voice and she was shocked to see the owner of that voice. “Isha! You…oh you clicked these photos….why…?” Mini was confused as to what was Isha doing here. She looked at Hanuman but he didn’t look surprised at all. That means he knew…who is she? “What is she doing here? Do you know her already?” Mini asked from Hanuman. “She is Isha Mehra, inspector Isha Mehra. She is a part of our team.” Hanuman answered.
