TRP is kind of a useless metric for the way Pakistani dramas are set up. The dramas have a limited number of episodes and have been mostly shot at the time of airing. Generally ratings are important for western (and Indian, I assume) dramas where how long a series lasts depends on the number of people watching.
I think the Pakistani TRP system is basically made up by the channels to show up the competition. Basically the same thing as when the news channels go "and this is brought first and exclusively by our channel !!!"
Yeah I agree. That's the thing with 95% of Pakistani dramas. I think in rare cases ratings cause them to extend it; I remember that apparently Mann Mayal got extended by multiple episodes cause it was leading on the rating chart, but I don't know how true it is. But then again; by that logic, a show like Tera Yahan Koi Nahin could've been cut short somehow. So I think they just shoot and air, maybe in rare cases extend them if the ratings are that good.
Western ratings are very different only because they are quite official and nowadays the channels here go by online viewership as well. There's a channel here called The CW which has pretty low ratings on cable and satellite but the shows are really popular online and stay on-air. Albeit, I don't follow them, but many of my friends do, just on Netflix or DVR.
Indian is interesting too, since Sony kinda gave up on TRPs a while ago as well. They more so care about fan following on other platforms. Some of their shows barely crossed 1.1-1.2 but still managed around 500 episodes.
