Mind you, HCQ can also mal-function on your Heart working,...
Sure there are studies on HCQ, but Trump touting it without even basic understanding, or citing experts and associated research papers is just pure nonsense.
What is needed is multiple studies, and clinical data and bio chemical research and side effects.
Hydroxychloroquine Ineffective for COVID-19, VA Study ...
(the above study is not peer reviewed but one has to go thru many studies)
There are several studies going on. Anyone here who claims to be an expert and say that it doesn't work is ill-informed.
There are drugs that work for some, doesn't work for others, even have adverse effect for some. Doesn't mean that the drug is useless. I think you know it.
[[ Worryingly, significant risks are identified for combination users of HCQ+AZM even in the short-term as proposed for COVID19 management, with a 15-20% increased risk of angina/chest pain and heart failure, and a two-fold risk of cardiovascular mortality in the first month of treatment.
here is another new preprint from a multinational team lead out of Brazil. It enrolled 81 patients in a trial of high-dose chloroquine (note: not hydroxychloroquine as this post initially stated) (600 mg b.i.d. over ten days, total dose 12g) or low-dose (450mg b.i.d. on the first day, qd thereafter for the next four, total dose 2.7g). All patients also received azithromycin and ceftriaxone (a cephalosporin antibiotic). The high-dose patients showed more severe QT prolongation and there a trend toward higher lethality compared to the low dose. The overall fatality rate across both arms of the study was 13.5% (so far), which they say overlaps with the historical fatality rate of patients not receiving chloroquine. The authors actually had to stop recruiting patients for the high-dose arm of the study due to the cardiovascular events, but they’re continuing to enroll people in the low-dose group to look at overall mortality. The paper mentions that chloroquine and HCQ have been mandated as the standard therapy in Brazil, so there is no way to run a control group, though ]]]

If it works great, but so far I am not convinced yet. We need more studies. - denouncing nonsense being spouted by Trump.
1. This HCQ therapy is something that is under trial in various countries. If one is convinced that Trump has influence on every country, it will be hard to un-convince them.
2. The study that you have (second link), don't know if you even read it. It evaluates high dosage vs. low dosage. Their verdict is on high dosage. I thought they added "Meaning" for the novice to understand.
3. HCQ is a prescribed medicine. Trump can say whatever he wants, but it is the physicians who decide to prescribe it or otherwise. People can't go and get that medicine on their own. That there are physicians prescribing it for Covid-19, perhaps you, the smarter one, knows more than they do.
The joy in some treatment failing, because Trump pushed for it is odd. Irrespective of Trump, many countries are doing trials on it. I hope it helps in some form without dire side effects. There are countries running trial on health care workers. It is voluntary and health care workers trust that trial enough to join it.
btw, More than joy it is the fear of HCQ working, Let's say HCQ is confirmed the cure from Scientific community; There will be a riot in the white house where nobody can be better Doctor and Scientist than Trump. He might even that borrowing Facial hairstyle of his Doctor. He might ask people to inject themselves with Disinfectant (Oh he did it already). His believers will start eating wipes. He will fire Fauci and team and replace with Eric Trump and his dogs.

FDA issues warnings on chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine after deaths and poisonings reported
The peer-reviewed Journal of the American Medical Association released a new study Friday that said researchers cut short a study testing chloroquine as a potential treatment for Covid-19 over safety concerns, citing a “primary outcome” of death. Nearly two dozen patients died and some developed irregular heart rates after taking doses of the drug daily.
Various links are citing that this warning was issued today.

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are FDA-approved to treat or prevent malaria. Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is also FDA-approved to treat lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. These medicines have not been proven safe or effective for treating COVID-19.
As noted in the Drug Safety Communication, the FDA has reviewed – and continues to investigate – case reports in the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database, published medical literature and the American Association of Poison Control Centers National Poison Data System concerning serious heart-related adverse events and death in patients with COVID-19 receiving hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, either alone or combined with the antibiotic azithromycin or other medicines. These adverse events included abnormal heart rhythms such as QT interval prolongation, dangerously rapid heart rate called ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation, and in some cases, death. Patients who also have other health issues such as heart and kidney disease are likely to be at increased risk of these heart problems when receiving these medicines.

The FDA is aware of reports of serious heart rhythm problems in patients with COVID-19 treated with hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, often in combination with azithromycin and other QT prolonging medicines. We are also aware of increased use of these medicines through outpatient prescriptions. Therefore, we would like to remind health care professionals and patients of the known risks associated with both hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine. We will continue to investigate risks associated with the use of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for COVID-19 and communicate publicly when we have more information.
Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine have not been shown to be safe and effective for treating or preventing COVID-19. They are being studied in clinical trials for COVID-19, and we authorized their temporary use during the COVID-19 pandemic for treatment of the virus in hospitalized patients when clinical trials are not available, or participation is not feasible, through an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

Whether HCQ works or does not work, POTUS is making statements without knowledge, data or backing and I reject all his nonsensical statements even if they turn out right. His statements are as nonsensical as statements from astrologers.
