Chapter 121
Geet snuck a glance at her husband, he stood near her but there was still a hidden distance that no one else could see but them. His warmth was close but they were so far away.
She wondered how had they come to this? Who was to blame for this?
She bit down on her lower lip focusing on the small party that Taz and Samir held for their family and friends. Her attention was drawn to the dance floor where Sanjana danced with Aditya, she felt an aching longing and burn seeing them both so close and sharing jokes between them.
Just a year ago, she was dancing in her husband's arms in Vikrant and Meera's reception.
He had held her possessively in his arms and his eyes were focused on her for the entire night, she hadn’t ever felt like she belonged until she'd had her husband's love.
She looked at her husband, and just watching him she was reminded of his admiration, his love, his possessive, his intensity, his friendship, his kindness.
Now though, she felt him slipping through her fingers and she was afraid to reach out and hold on tight.
"Hey, c'mon you two" Sanjana called out. "You've not danced for one song yet".
Geet was about to shake her husband guessing Maan was still angry at her however she turned noticing him besides her holding out his hand.
She silently took his hand and followed him, she swallowed thickly as she felt his hand placed on her hips and their hands lacing together.
Maan stared intently at his wife, his gaze unwavering and not once moving away from hers.
He noticed her stolen glances, she looked conflicted and he hated seeing her feeling so lost.
However, he didn’t know what else he could do.
How was he going to revive his relationship with his wife? They were both suffering, and he didn’t know how he could bring them to break this silence between them.
He pulled her closer, his fingers caressing the small of her back, he wanted to cradle her cheek and stare into her soft caramel coloured eyes and tell her just how much he loved her.
Geet inched closer towards him, she missed him.
She missed her husband so much. Tears burned in her eyes, she pressed her face into the hollow of his neck hiding away from the world.
Maan tightened his arms around her, he wanted to envelope his wife and hide her away from the world. He wanted to protect her from the hurt caused by fate.
Geet closed her eyes inhaling her husband's scent, allowing herself a moment to forget everything. She counted mentally as she slowly gathered herself, her heartbeat slowed down and she got her breathing back to normal. As the song slowly came to a stop, she lifted her head and considered her husband's longing eyes.
"I never loved anyone as much as you Maan" she whispered.
Maan felt a sensation wash over him, his love, his possessiveness renewed for his wife.
They pulled away slowly, Geet was dragged away to join Sanjana and Taz whilst Aditya and Samir joined Maan's side and discussed their ladies though Maan wasn’t paying attention.
His attention was solely focused on his wife, she didn’t seem too involved what Sanjana and Taz were going on about. Instead she'd glanced towards him a few times.
Maan excused himself and slipped away from the party, he was stood leaning against the wall outside of the restaurant Samir and Tanisha's anniversary party was held at.
Geet's words ringing in his ears, I never loved anyone as much as you Maan
He hadn’t loved anyone as much as he loved his wife, if only he could prove it to his wife. If only he could show her, he wanted to help her through this difficult patch. He wanted to fight their fate and punish someone for giving them so much hurt, just when they'd gotten close and fallen in love with each other.
He turned hearing heels clicking against the stoned path, and his eyes drew to his wife.
"I forgot to love when the woman I loved walked out of my life" Maan looked at Geet and focused entirely on her face.
"She was the first face I saw when I was born, and one day she just walked out on me and Vikrant" Maan spoke words that he hadn’t ever told anyone. Dadima and Vikrant had watched Gayatri Khurana walk out but he hadn’t shared how he felt about it all. Dadima understood his pain without him even expressing himself and Vikrant was young to understand much.
"She told me she hated me and Vikrant… She said she only married my dad for his money but he lost it all in his business… When she learned that, she turned around and spat it in our faces and walked out. She ignored Vikrant's cries, she ignored my dadima's tears, she ignored my dadima's begging… I will never forget it as long as I live, how she walked out without a backward glance" Maan swallowed the lump in his throat. He wasn’t going to shed a tear for that woman. She didn’t deserve it.
Geet felt her heart drop as she listened to her husband's words, she couldn’t believe how a mother could just walk out on her two sons.
"After her, I hated women, I thought they were greedy. I hadn’t just seen Gayatri wanting money desperately, I had seen other members of family. I see it even now when they come around to our home yet when dadima needed them… they backed away" he sighed and turned looking around the empty space outside. The hustle and bustle from the restaurant was blocked by the thick glass doors, everyone was inside eating whilst they stood outside by the wall side by side.
"You were the reason that I realised that not everyone was the same" Maan confessed. "You were the reason I found myself" he turned to look at her. "You were the reason, I loved. I've never loved anyone as much as I loved you Geet" his voice was hoarse and thick. "I've never told this to anyone but you…" he admitted. "I trust you with all my heart and I will always love you forever"
Geet swallowed thickly, her eyes not once wavered from her husband's.
"I want to go home with you, now" She murmured softly.
Without a word, he walked towards their car with Geet besides him.
"You need to tell Karan, Meera and Geet" Puja looked at Amelia thoughtfully.
"Geet lost her baby, everyone is still trying to get through it" Amelia answered.
"Amelia, when everyone finds out… what then?" Puja questioned.
"I can't tell them" Amelia responded, "I could live with Karan an all hating me" she shrugged nonchalantly.
Puja looked at Amelia concerned, she wished she could call anyone of them and break it to them what Amelia was hiding but she promised.
What she didn’t know was, Amelia was afraid. She was having to live with this and keep it hidden from everyone.
Maan unlocked the door entering inside their apartment, he switched on the lights and moved to the living room as Geet followed.
He turned around in surprise as the lights were switched off.
"Geet…"
"I was beaten every day, at least once if not twice" Geet started leaning against the wall clenching her fist by her sides. She couldn’t bare herself to her husband in the light. "Mama couldn’t help me, she was always dragged away by my cousin or someone else whenever she tried to intervene" she breathed out heavily. "After papa, all of them changed and hurt me, I couldn’t stop them" she murmured.
Maan listened quietly, his jaw clenched. He knew the hidden reason behind their hatred. He was also taken aback slightly as Geet was coming forward without anyone prompting her.
"They hated me, I done everything for them. I loved them, after Papa I thought they'd fill my life with the love I was missing but they didn’t. One day, I just stopped loving. My dreams and my hopes were shattered in an instant… all I could think was about survival" unknown to Maan, tears were sliding down her cheek. "Until dadima…"
Geet swallowed thickly swiping her cheek and looked at her husband's dark figure which she could just about make out. "Until you… You held my hand and showed me that I could dream, you showed me a life I didn’t think I'd ever have. We had everything, and we had… we had our baby… She completed everything, she was like… the last piece of this puzzle but… she was just snatched away before she could even take a breath… I lost myself, it threw me. Her not being here for us broke me… This time, all I could think was about trying to get that piece of me back but… I was pushing you away…"
Maan could hear the inevitable choked sob, he walked towards her. Even in the darkness he could find his wife, he cradled her cheek pressing his forehead to hers.
"Trust me?"
"With my heart" she answered.
"Love me?" he whispered.
"Always Maan, I never stopped".
Maan switched on the light and looked down at his wife, her cheeks slightly flushed from crying and her eyes a little red.
He hated seeing the tears in her eyes, he pressed his lips to her forehead.
"We're going get through this together" he murmured silently making a promise.
He was going to ensure his wife remembered the happiness their daughter brought into the lives, rather than focusing on the sadness she'd given when she left them.
Their two weeks apart had brought secret confessions to be voiced.
Maybe their fate had something in mind for them…
Geet slipped her arms around his middle and hugged tightly, her fingers clutching at the back of his shirt. Tears slipped down her cheeks, a soft cry escaped her lips and her heart shattered the walls she'd built around herself. It was just her and her husband now.
It was their perfection. Maan enveloped Geet in his large arms, and crouched down to the floor with her, he pulled her on his lap and holds onto her, gently rocking her.
She inhaled sharply, breathing in his scent and sliding her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly as she felt the wetness from his cheeks on the side of her neck.
In the darkness, in each other's arms they expressed the emotions from the last couple of months that they had hidden from each other. Everything else disappears and its only them that remains. Maan shifted a while later and holds Geet protectively in his arm, his face burrowed in the hollow of her neck. Geet shuddered as she released a heavy sigh after a while, and lifted her head. She couldn’t see his face, she reaches out and traces his features.
Maan's lips slowly twitched and he smiled as he felt her fingers across his mouth.
"I lost the feeling of my bum" Geet murmured.
He broke out laughing, Geet smiled and slowly stood with his help. She was quickly scooped up in her husband's arms and led towards their bedroom.
She shivered as he slowly undressed her in the dark slowly, he grabbed his t-shirt and slipped her into that and shed his clothes leaving only his boxers. Geet nestled against his chest as he only lay her down and climbed in besides her wrapping both his arms around her.
Finally after a few weeks, they were finally in each other's arms and sleeping.
"Dadima, are you okay?" Vikrant entered her bedroom noticing her rocking back and forth in her chair.
Dadima offered a small smile and nodded slowly, "I was just thinking about Maan and Geet". She recalled listening to her Maan's painful cries over the phone, she hated that she couldn’t be there for him. She also knew that this tough phase would bring her children closer without any prompting from herself or Nikita.
"Do you want to speak to bhai?" he asked crouching down by her knee.
"It's late over there now, they're probably going to sleep now" she answered cradling his cheek. "You're quite early" she noted the time.
"I didn’t have a lot of presence in this episode" he smiled covering her hand with his. "Also I came home early, so I can take my nagging wife out to dinner" he winked.
Meera happened to overhear and entered the room scowling. "Nagging wife?"
Vikrant cursed his fate and glanced over his shoulder, "I mean beautiful wife?"
"You're not fooling anyone Vikrant" Meera frowned, "And I don’t want to go on dinner with you, why don’t you go to dinner with your beautiful stunning on screen wife Maya"
"C'mon Meers, me and Jennifer are friends" Vikrant responded.
"Don’t take her name" Meera replied.
"Tum dono na…" Dadima laughed.
"Dadima, everywhere I look is that my husband is always being chased by women from all ages, atop of that I hear about his budding so called 'close friendship' with Jennifer" Meera complained.
"Bete, yeh loug toh yeh sab…" Dadima started.
"I know, I know it's part of the package of Mr Vikrant Khurana but that doesn’t mean I'm happy" Meera narrowed her eyes at Vikrant then turned to dadima. "Dadima, chaliye. Why don’t we ladies go out for dinner? It's been a while since we all got together?" she suggested. "Amelia might just come, she's been avoiding me the last few weeks".
"Teek hai, Anisha ko main phone karti hoon" Dadima agreed.
"I'm coming as well" Vikrant informed.
"Are you a lady?" Meera raised her brows.
"If it means, I go with you then yes I am" Vikrant answered.
Meera's lips twitched, she didn’t want to smile but seeing her husband's mischievous glint, her anger had dissipated and she laughed.
Whilst dadima spoke to Anisha, Vikrant whispered softly to Meera, "When do we tell dadima?" he asked.
Meera's smile faltered, she looked at him uncertainly. Vikrant understood sighing heavily.
She reached over clasping his hand and squeezed in reassurance, he just about managed a small comforting smile.
"Why don’t you call Karan and speak to him about joining us all?" Meera suggested standing up. Vikrant agreed and dialled Karan's number and Meera dialled Amelia's.
