Maybe I never found RB soft and gentle, and after seeing how awesome the present RB is, I have mentally disassociated from the previous era of Bajaj and Kuki. 😆 It seems like the characters have grown out of their boxes and have now assumed the classic typical qualities - seemingly stoic Dad and a bubbly daughter.
