I have a doubt about a scene in Parasite. [SPOILER ALERT] At the beginning of the movie Min tells Ki-woo that since he has taken the exam 4 times he'll be a great tutor for Da-hye. So why exactly did Kevin take the test 4 times?

I thought he couldn't qualify for his dream university and the ones that he did qualify for were too expensive. Like how some Indian students keep retaking NEET, JEE, etc., till they get into a government college. My friend, on the other hand, thinks that he was faking his identity and appearing for the exam as different people in exchange for some money. She thinks that he helped Min cheat and that's why they were friends, while I think they met in high school.

I'm a confused aatma so can someone explain that scene to me? Please. 😳
