CHAPTER 48
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, RELIGIOUS TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, hospital/office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE.
ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS DOWNLOADED DO NOT BELONG TO ME BUT BELONG TO THE ORIGINAL UPLOADER. I HAVE JUST USED THEM AS THEY GO WITH MY STORY!
Maan, Adi and Geet reached Khurana Mansion. When they stepped inside the main door of the mansion, Maan and Geet were surprised to see their home so quite. Both Maan and Geet were too exhausted to enquire the reason for peace. Savitri Devi saw three of them and exclaimed with happiness, “Aap teeno khaane ke liye sahi time par aayen hain. Pinky kaisi hai Adi beta?” (You three have just come on time for dinner. How is Pinky Adi?)
“Dadimaa, Adi ko mubarakbaad dijiye. Adi aur Pinky ki aaj Court Marriage ho gayi.” (Dadimaa, first Congratulate Adi. As Adi and Pinky have done Court Marriage today.) Maan answered.
“Arre wah yeh toh bahut hi khushi ki baath hai. Nakul mithai laao.” (That’s a good news. Nakul get some sweets.)
While Savitri Devi was talking, Geet had slipped into her room. Unable to bear the light headedness and exhaustion any longer, Geet changed into her nightwear and got into bed. Geet was fast asleep by the time Maan entered his bedroom after settling Adi in guest room.

Now it hit Maan that his Mishty is really exhausted mentally more than physically. The doctor in Maan understood that Geet needs space and mental relaxation to recover but the lover and husband in him could not stand the thought of Maan staying away from his Mishty even for a minute and this is a month!
Next morning, when Geet woke up, she was alone in bed and it was 07:30 a.m. much later than her usual time. She was feeling light headed, having nausea and body ache. Geet got up to go to washroom but her whole head swam.

Maan who was just coming out of the washroom, caught Geet in time before she fell. “Geet tum rest karo.” (Geet you rest.)
“Haan magar abhi hum washroom jaana chahte hain. Kya aap humari help karenge?” (I will but just now I need to use washroom. Can you please help me?) Geet reached just in time and threw up in the toilet bowel.
Maan was now getting concerned with each passing minute. “Geet tumhei kya ho raha hai?” (Geet what’s wrong with you?)
“Humare khayal se hummein ‘food poisoning’ ho gayi hai. Kya aap humare ghar ke kapade laayenge hummein nahana hai?” (I think I’m having ‘food poisoning’. Can you please bring my everyday clothes as I want to shower?)
While Maan went out of the bathroom, Geet cleaned herself up and freshened up. When Maan was back, he found Geet brushing her teeth. “Geet tum darwaza andar se lock matt karna jab tum shower lo.” (Geet don’t lock the door while showering.)
“Theek hai.” (Alright.)

Fifteen minutes later, Geet came out of the washroom showered and looking fresh but still weak. Maan handed Geet fresh lime sweet and sour to reduce her nausea. Seeing Nakul there, Geet said, “Kaka, kya aap humare liye chaas aur namkeen dalia nashte ke liye laayenge?” (Nakul, can you please get for me buttermilk and salted porriage for breakfast?)
“Zaroor betiya.” (Yes Ma’am.)
Once Nakul left, Maan got his medical bag out and was about to examine Geet when there was a knock. Maan opened the door and saw Savitri Devi standing there. “Maan, Geet ko kya hua?” (Maan, what’s wrong with Geet?) Savitri Devi said walking inside the room.

“Patta nahi Dadimaa, lagta hai ‘food poisoning’ huyi hai.” (I don’t know Dadimaa. I think she is having ‘food poisoning’.)
“Food poisoning? Magar Geet toh sirf ghar ka khaana khaati hai.” (Food poisoning? But she only eats home cooked food.)
“Nahi pichle do dino se ghar mein aur hospital mein bahut stress thaa iss liye usne hospital mein hi khaaya thaa.” (No as for past two days there was lot of stress at home and hospital, she was forced to eat at hospital.)
“Aap jaayiye aur Adi ko dekhiye hum Geet ke paas beithte hain.” (You go and see if Adi wants anything while I sit with Geet.) While Savitri Devi and Maan were talking, Geet again rushed to the washroom to throw up. “Aap jaayiye Maan, hum Geet ke paas rehte hain.” (You go Maan. I’ll sit with Geet.) Maan hesitantly left.
An hour later, Ranjit, Maan and Adi were sitting in Ranjit’s study. “Dad, I want that Sasha kicked out of Khurana Constructions.”

“Maan I wholly support you but Maa won’t agree.”
“I know Sasha’s grandfather was a true honest employee of Khuranas. But Maheshwaris have milked that cow for past 2 generations. If you don’t throw Sasha out of KC, I’ll remove myself from Khurana Industries. I will also not be involved even on paper with Khurana Industries. I’ll handover everything to Vicky. I’m a qualified cardiologist and can take care of Geet and Annie by myself, I don’t need Khuranas properties or assests.”

“Maan, how can you do that? Khurana Industries is your family business and its Vicky and your right.” Adi said trying to calm the situation.
“Adi, more important than Khurana Industries for me is my wife’s respect.”
“Maan before you take this rash decision, let me talk to Maa.”
“Very well. Tell Dadimaa that she has to choose between Me and Sasha. If she can’t fire Sasha, I’m moving with Geet and Annie to US. RHNY (Royal Hospital of New York) has been constantly urging me to come back on higher package.” Maan walked out of study in anger.
Maan walked back to his room and found Savitri Devi and Geet laughing on some joke. Maan saw that Geet had eaten and drunk something and was looking slightly better. “Chaliye beta, abb Maan aa gaye hain. Aap dono battein kijiye, hum nashta lagwate hain.” (Now Maan is back my dear, I’ll leave. You both spend time together. I’ll organise breakfast.)
“Haan Dadimaa, mujhe aadhe ghante mein nikalna hain. Do ghante baad meri surgery hai.” (Yes Dadimaa, I have to leave in half an hour. I have a surgery in two hours time.)
“Theek hai hum nashta lagwate hain.” (Fine. I’ll get breakfast ready.) Savitri Devi hurriedly left Maan and Geet’s room.
Once they were alone, Maan came near Geet and said seriously, “Mishty, please forgive me for Sasha’s behaviour.”

“Aap maafi kyun maang rahe hain?” (Why are you apologising?)

“Kyunki...........” (Because......)
“Hum Sasha ke bartaav se gussa nahi hain. Hum iss baat se rushth (upset) the ki woh ek sadhaaran karamchari hokar poora Khurana Construction par dhauss jama rahi hai jab ki Khurana Construction ke maalik yeh sab chup chaap dekh rahe hain. Agar Sasha aisi badtameezi ‘Khurana Khandaan ki bahu’ se kar sakti hai toh baaki staff ke saath kaisa behave karegi udharanta (for example) Adi bhaiya ke saath.” (I’m not anger at Sasha’s behaviour. I was and am upset that an ordinary employee holds more power in Khurana Construction than its owners. If Sasha can be so precoccus and disrespectful to the daughter-in-law of Khurana household, how disrespectful and arrogant she will be to people working in Khurana Construction i.e. Adi bhaiya.) Maan was shocked at Geet’s correct analysis. Geet continued, “Kal kewal ‘hum’ jo ghar ke hain, unko Sasha ke ashishth bartaav aur maalikpan ka patta chala. Ho sakta hai bahut hi jaldi Coporate world aur media ko bhi iska patta chal jaaye. Tabh aap battaiye ki kya koi bhi badi Corporate Company Khuranas se sambandhan rakhna chahegi? Kya yeh Khurana Khandaan ko manzoor hoga? Khurana Industries kewal Baba aur Adi bhaiya ki mehnat ka nateeja hi nahi aapke dadaon aur pardadaon ki mehnat ka bhi nateeja hai. Kya Khurana parivaar ko apni barson ki kamayi izzat ko ek minute mein gawana sehan hoga?” (I’m a ‘family’ member and if I can’t stand her self importance and rude behaviour. What will happen when Coporate world and media comes to know about Sasha’s dominance and authority in Khurana Constructions? Do you think any Corporate/ Construction Company will want to work with Khuranas? Will Khuranas readily accept that as well? Khurana Industries is not only result of Baba and Adi bhaiya’s hardwork. It is also culmination of hardwork done by your grandfather, your great grandfather and their ancestors! Will it be acceptable to Khuranas to loose their decades old respect and prestige in a minute?)

Savitri Devi had come (Maan and Geet’s bedroom door was open) to pick up her reading glasses when she heard this conversation between husband and wife.
“Geet, mai tumhari baath se agree karta hoon, magar Sasha ke Dadaji yaani humare Munimji ne do generations pehle Khuranas ko bad investment se kayeen baar bacchaya thaa. Iss liye mere Dadaji ne unhein promise kiya thaa ki jab tak Khurana Industries hai, usmein unke parivarwale humesha naukari paa saktein hain. Iss liye Sasha ko fire karne ke liye Dadimaa nahi manegi.” (Geet, I agree to everything you have said but Sasha’s grandfather was Khuranas accountant (Munimji) two generations ago and had often saved Khuranas from bad investments. Hence in lieu of his loyalty, my grandfather promised that Munimji’s family will always be given a job in Khurana Industries as long as Khurana Industries is there. Therefore, Dadimaa, can’t even fire Sasha.)
“Theek woh aap sabke beech ki baat hai.” (Very well that your family matter.) Geet subtly changed the topic. “Accha kya aaj aap shaam ko der mein aayenge?” (Alright will you return late from work this evening?)
“Nahin. Kyun?” (No. Why?)
“Kyunki aaj shaam ko hum Adi bhaiya ke saath Gharonda (Mishra Residence) jaayenge apni “pag pheron” ki rasam ke liye.” (Because today evening Adi bhaiya will be taking me to Gharonda (Mishra Residence) for my “pag phera” ceremony.)
“Tum phir mujhe chodh ke jaaogi?” (You will again leave me and go?)

“Toh aap bhi chalye naa?” (Then you also accompany me?)
“Aur tumhari tabiyat?” (What about your health?)
“Hum abb theek hain. Ho sakta hai ki thakkan ke kaaran humara jee michla raha thaa.” (I’m fine now. Maybe it was excessive exhaustion that I was having nausea and feeling ill.)
“Theek hi tum jaisa theek samjho. I’m getting late.” (Fine do as you want. I’m getting late.) Maan said in an upset voice and started packing his medical bag and going through the case study file of the patient he has to operate.
